Disclaimer: This is written by a fan of Generation 1 who knows of all the goofy and awesome things that franchise has done. I am well aware that the original cartoon was not flawless. I also admit the Marvel Comics at least early on were not that great (I read them). So, know that I say this admitting G1's flaws and loving it nonetheless. (If this makes me a Geewuner so be it).

Okay, I consider myself to be a pretty average G1 fan. Not jaded like some gen Xers are (I am not Gen X and was born in 1987 and my first Transformers were Generation 2 Optimus with black trailer and voice box and G2 Starscream). My feelings for G1 are described in the disclaimer.

Japanese G1 fans: Yatsu, Onere, Kisama

G2 fans: Like fabulous colors.

Beast Wars fans: To me and from what I can gather, Beast Wars fans are some of the most snide fans out there. People make fun of Geewuners, but Beast Wars fans insist Beast Wars is a flawless masterpiece of a show. They also insist that every voted on character in the Hall of Fame has to be from Beast Wars. How Waspinator got up there before Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime/ tons of other(even some important comic book only guys) beats the heck out of me. If you do critique Beast Wars and you do happen to like G1, you are flooded with Trukk not Monkey posts. Ironically, my dad was one of those Trukk not Monkey guys lol. Point being, I kind of resent Beast Wars fans declaring they are the greatest franchise (even though Beast Wars is a subset of G1 sort of like late UC Gundam in many respects) and then proceed to rag on G1 like it was some pointless spin off.

RID fans I imagine are just secret Braves series fans who cry for the day for a new Brave series. (I am with you RID fans... I feel your pain)

Unicron Trilogy fans: Love endless stock footage

Bayformer fans: Panelformers and Ritalin for

Animated Fans: They like their fanwanky homages and fun story.

Prime fans are: Arcee is my waifu.

I do not know what Yatsu, Onere and Kisama are. I do not know what what waifu is. I do not see how Brave ties THAT much in to RiD, but does not get mentioned in the Unicron trilogy (Ligier Jack?). And why the hate on BW?

I see where you were going with this. But it just turned into a rant against Beast Wars.

Not where I thought this thread was going, but I will take a stab at my take on the fandom.

I am a G1 guy. Born in '79, I grew up with the US show. I didn't watch Japanese G1, G2, Beastwars, or any of the Unicron trilogy. I got back into collecting right before the first Bay movie came out. I love the movies and bought a few toys from it. I loved Animated and bought a bunch of those toys. I love TF Prime but have no intention on buying into that toyline.

My collection is G1, Classics, MP, Animated, and Movie. I have a few figures from other lines, but not too much. I have one third party item (a BTS trailer for Classics Prime).

I love to see what other people have in their collections. I think it is interesting to see someone's Unicron trilogy collection. I know I won't own most of those figures, so it is nice to check them out. I like to see other people's rare Japanese only G1 stuff. Again, I won't own them, but that doesn't mean they aren't cool.

I wish I knew more collectors personally. We have a group here in central PA that meets a couple times a year, and I thoroughly enjoy our time together. We all have different tastes in collecting and it is cool to geek out on what everyone is into. While I don't do third party stuff, another one of us buys almost everything FP puts out. Another guy just buys everything. Another guy just knows everything about every figure.

Since our fandom is spread out all over the world, and there aren't that many of us, it is nice to have a place like this site to discuss our hobby. I like to share, discuss, vent, and joke around here.

From what I gather from these forums, most of us have a view that is similar to mine. In person we would all get along great. I think we get carried away when we are on the internet. We let our opinions get out of control and we argue over trivial things.

We are passionate about our hobby and want our collections to be as good as we can make them. I wish we would keep in mind that collecting isn't a competition between us. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what constitutes a perfect collection.

I was born in '78, grew up with G1 and fell out of love with the toyline when the Actionmasters appeared on the scene. I pretty much missed G2 (but then it was very short-lived, so not surprising) and was disgusted by the whole Beastwars thing. I'm not saying that's right, but the whole 'organic looking' transformers thing made me cold. Beastwars may be great but I have never given it a chance. I have heard great things about the series so I may watch it at some point to make a better judgement, but I will never like the toys.

I enjoyed RID for what it was - a fun series - and it was good seeing some of the old moulds re-used. For a series and toyline pretty much thrown together, I thought it worked really well, and possessed the spirit of the original G1 series. I could never get into the Unicron trilogy, likewise animated. Just not my bag aesthetically, or story wise. It is best that I do not comment on the live action movie and its sequels at all.

TF Prime is very good. I didn't think it would be, and I am still not keen on the aesthetic of the show, but you can't argue with the storytelling, impressive visuals and great acting. In terms of my collection I have my original G1 stuff, plus a lot of 'classicsverse' figures. I have some other bits and pieces, namely quite a few Optimus Primes and Black repaints. Boring to some maybe, but I am proud of the stuff I have!

Back to the point, it's really nice to see such a diverse mix of fans on here. For me, the 1990s were really the 'dark ages' as far as I was concerned - it was pretty hard to find out much about Transformers, plus I was drunk for much of the decade. Luckily in the 00's the internet fandom really took off. It's interesting to see what other people perceive you as - I guess I could be called 'geewun', 'trukk not munky' or something similar. I don't mind. Each to their own

I'll be blunt with this, but isn't the OP kind of stereotyping the fandoms?

Why divide fans into groups? I love Beast Wars, Prime and Animated yet am voting for the RiD character for HoF. I'd like to think most fans are like this (liking multiple series and even characters outside those favored series, I mean).

DISCLAIMER: The following is purely my opinion of the aforementioned matters. I do not state fact unless it is backed up by common knowledge/hard evidence. Also, no offense meant to anyone.

burning_sirius, you kind of set yourself up to be somewhat of a target with your opening statement, before you ever got to Beast Wars. Geewunner is a term used by those who love G1 and feel like elitists for being around when it first came out. It is also a term of derision used by non-G1 fans who love to put down those who favor G1.

Truth is, labels automatically generate negativity because much like in real life, they symbolize differences among groups or individuals. What we must remember is the one (and most important) common trait we all have: we are Transformers fans.

As Diaclone doesn't count, Transformers began with the generally simultaneous launch of the first toy line, the 1980s cartoon, and the Marvel comics series. I am not a "Geewunner" but I do consider myself a G1 fan first and foremost. Having said that, I do not shun or belittle anyone who is a fan of another continuity or doesn't like Generation 1 for whatever reason. I was born in 1982, and thus am the last of the Gen-Xers. My first experience with Transformers was the G1 Prowl toy, followed closely by the Powermaster Prime toy. I also picked up the Marvel comics issue #13, Shooting Star. For that reason, it's impossible for me to hate Megatron or any of his incarnations. It's probably also the reason I never gave a damn about Optimus Prime or any of his incarnations. (Except Bayverse Prime in RoTF when he became a total badass, but it was overdone in DotM) I will admit, I never saw the G1 cartoon until the year 2000, when I first saw the 1986 movie. (Unless you consider the "G2" re-broadcasts with that weird cube.) I then hunted down the available episodes on VHS. I have been a die-had fan of the Marvel comics, especially Simon Furman's run, and I will always consider it my official continuity. I was never a big fan of the Japanese shows, though I've seen them all, including the 1 episode of Zone, and some episodes of Beast Wars Neo.

Having said that, I also like Beast Wars, can't stand Beast Machines, (it's like BW got dropped off a f**king cliff) like RiD, Armada, don't like Energon and Cybertron, love Animated, tolerate the live action movies, and like the Prime series. (So far)

I also love the Armada video game. I don't care for any of the movie games, never played the Japanese G1 game, and not very impressed with War For Cybertron. Hopefully Fall of Cybertron will be better.

As for toys, every line has its ups and downs. I have characters from most lines, though I'm in the process of trimming down the collection a bit. It's hit/miss by Hasbro, and even some of the 3rd party companies, but as it's been stated before, they're a toy company selling plastic to kids (which we all were at some point) and us adult collectors are an afterthought.

I have most of the DW comics, though I stopped reading after IDW started up, because both story and art quality went way down.

The bottom line is the Transformers Universe is so diverse with different kinds of media, collectibles, and other facets, that everyone has (or should have) something to be interested in. Not everyone will like everything, but we should respect each others' tastes in reading, viewing, and collecting. As someone infamous said 20 years ago, "Can't we all just get along?"

Because we're fans and understand we're talking toys here, because we're grown-ups that go in to toystores for ourselves, because we enjoy the cr*p out of a cartoon and the rest of the world might think we're weird... We don't need any form of separation.

Wow. You are a real piece of work. You jab and jab but don't have your facts straight.

G1 was DEAD. G2 FAILED. TransFormers as a whole, was DEAD. The public had begun to forget them. Beast Wars, using the popularity of Jurassic Park, found a way to connect to the kids and public and bring back TransFormers.

That's the most important thing, Beast Wars brought them back.
Then you add in excellent performances, drama, comedy, action and a Megatron who was fully capable of being a real danger, instead of the looney toon G1 original and you have a masterwork. Not to mention the adult themes and jokes thrown in and you've grabbed the attention on everyone. Plus, being fully CGI at a time when no kids shows, let alone adult shows, did that at that time.

Okay, first off this was a parody. I delved into more of the Beast Wars guys to rib them because well it is fun and easy to do. I interpret this as Transformers fans are not allowed to have fun especially at Beast Wars fans expense even though I laugh at stuff when it is G1 fans who are lampooned. We have two terms to make fun of us with: Geewun and Trukk not Munkky. If Seibertron.com is about not having fun, then I will gladly leave the community. I mean, it is all over the tfwiki.

It was supposed to be a parody. I am a fan of multiple sections of Transformers so multiple stereotypes apply to me.

I agree with Rodimus Prime's opinion on what makes Transformers enjoyable. Like what you want, I am glad you are apart of the community though I am a big Optimus Prime fan. When I was 3 and watched the movie for the first time I cried that Optimus died. I still get emotional over that scene for some reason to this day. I do dislike Beast Machines and felt it was to grim-dark like Victory Gundam was.

Because I thought Beast Wars fans needed a little roast? Yatsu, Onere and Kisama are all rude ways of saying 'you' in Japanese (basically you bastard). They are used frequently in Super Robot shows to show how manly the super robot pilot (and in the case the Transformer) is. Watch Japanese G1 or even Japanese Beast Wars to understand. Masterforce is legit good while Victory is painful. Also, waifu is a fictional girlfriend on a TV show you obsess about. Have you seen the Arcee threads on /m/?

I know the people of this site, they're passionate, they love to discuss and they can agree or they can disagree. I know how some people can be a little more volatile than others. Your intention of this thread may have been to poke fun, but it wasn't executed in that way. It came across as you were trying to provoke people for a negative reaction.

I know people, they'll bite, flames will happen, it needed to be monitored.

Plenty of people have fun on this site, but it doesn't always need to be had by stirring people up.

BW Megatron had a rubber duckie. So menacing and definitely NOT loony. Also, I liked Beast Wars for its loony side. So, you are telling me to dislike Beast Wars? Though I do not think Waspinator is hall of fame worthy, he was a good bit of comic relief. If Beast Wars was all grim-dark like you declare it is: he should of died the first time he was 'killed' if it was anything like Space Runaway Ideon. You also exaggerate G1's ridiculousness to make your point here. Season 3 was pretty dark at times.

Do I care that G2 failed? No, Beast Wars did great and breathed new life in the series, but honestly it could of been any new fresh series that could of done this. Beast Wars happened to be at the right place at the right time with the right idea. Good for them.

Like Burn said, the only problem with your OP was that you didn't clarify your intentions. If it was a rib on other fans as you say, it's a bit more understandable. I would think most people can take a little jab about their certain peculiarities regarding Transformers. (At least I can.) Seriously? Beast Wars? They're actually some of the most easy going fans. Movie fans and G1 fans, on the other hand...those are the ones to avoid. First off, I give a mod the same respect I give anyone. They are there to mind the fence not to have their egos stroked. I trust the mods on Seibertron to be fair in their enforcement of rules. I am a mod for my own website, and I hate it when people try to stroke my ego.

Secondly, I admit that the confusion was my fault. I edited the title to make sure people know from now on.
