I like it when he said "Shut the **** up, Chip!" in DR. SMOOV's parody. That's about it.

When I was a kid it was because he sounded cool and he was a Porche. Such things are cool beyond measure.

He's Hong Kong Phooey in disguise!!!

Seriously, having Scatman Crothers do Jazz's voice really brought him and his cool attitude come alive.

His voice is pure awesomeness. Scatman Crothers just had that aspect to make Jazz sooo cool. And I like his love for Earth Music. That's why he & Blaster rock.

Prowl was the Autobot Second in Command. :P Jazz's voice was always pretty cool, his Porsche alternate mode is sweet as hell. I also liked his coloring and that he was a Special Ops commander, which is basically the Autobot version of a spy. He was also portrayed as something like a Jack of all trades.

I did not like him in G1. He seemed to full of himself and didn't seem natural. He looks cool though.

I think since then, he's grown on me. I like his new movie look, and am curious how he will act and sound in the movie. maybe I will like him more then. :)

Prowl was Autobot Second in Command only on the rank part of his toy info, but it didn't even say it in his tech spec.

According to the first few episodes of G1, at least MTMTE, Jazz was second in command. I, personally, believe to see that they were trying to make Ironhide appear to be second in command instead of Jazz in later episodes, though.

I guess you could say that Jazz, Prowl, and Ironhide make up a triad of Optimus' go-to guys/bots. Prowl brings strategy, Jazz brings the style and cunning, and Ironhide brings the guts.

That's probably the best reasoning I've heard about the seeming "shared" role the three seemed to have.

I dunno, I always dug Jazz because he seemed, to my little kid mind anyway, to be a blend of both style and substance: sure, he loved culture and had the slick personality to match, but there were enough moments to show that his mind was as sharp as a titanium tac (especially early-on, when he was more of a second-in-command than the other two in the "triad"). Plus, let's face it--he was one of, like, seven Autobots that felt a little deeper than "generic tough guy" or "grumpy old man," so he kinda had an edge by default.

That, and c'mon. Scatman Crothers just made the character.

A guy who keeps his cool at all times and does it with so much style and class? What's not to like?

'Sides, he was one of the few original Autobots to survive TF the Movie.

Jazz,pros.....

There were/are two types autobots. The military/industrial
type. Then the tuff guys, who could handle givens, but were
were sporty and zippy. Good scout,commander,infantry.combat.
Could get under the microchips and fowl up the data.

Sometimes you need the civi/scout skin. But most
of all,one the fun guys, would get you out of a bind. Speed, intel. Always manages to get out of a situation, and
make it home. Every character has a niche.

His coolness and the love of music. And his alternate mode in G1 and War Within. Conclusion Jazz is cool.
