Tech and stuff website Gizmodo has posted a tidbit of fun news concerning a Chinese Transformers fan. Can Transformers be a sign of love? Keep on reading below to find out about his giant Optimus Prime replica for a proposal, or head here for the original news!

You know how when a guy courts a girl, sometimes the right move is a grand gesture? A bouquet of flowers to say you're sorry. A surprise weekend getaway to mark an anniversary. How about a giant Transformers replica to pop the question?

That's what this guy did. According to Chinese news site Jinyang, he constructed this three-story-tall model of Optimus Prime over the course of 10 months to impress his girlfriend enough that she'd say yes. The superheroic machine took 400 drawings, 40,000 rivets and nearly $10,000 worth of stainless steel and iron. But boy does it look badass.

Step 1) Acquire a girlfriend
Step 2) Date said girlfriend for approximately 1-2 years
Step 3) Gain 40,000 rivets and nearly $10,000 worth of stainless steel and iron
Step 4) Do exactly the same thing as this guy did and create this
Step 5) ???
Step 6) Continue eating ice cream while weeping

Either way, I win and lose at the same time.

I find the lack of girlfriends in our younger boy members lives disturbing.

I wonder what he really spent on that in man hours and materials. Paint, tools, those rivets, power, and bandages aren't cheap.

He probably could have impressed her more if he'd spent the time he spent on this thing with her instead.

"I love you. Here's a giant robot that proves it."

I wonder if she actually did say yes.

does that really matters, seeing the purpose of the whole thing? sure the guy has money, but its the gesture that counts.

Pretty sad. Takes Optimus Prime worship to a whole new and scary level.

Uh, you do know that in some places in Asia (I forget where), people can marry fictional characters, right? I'm sure the person who married Optimus or any other transformers is about the saddest you could get. At least this guy put the work into it to make something crazy and on a large scale. :APPLAUSE: Of course, she better be a fan of Transformers herself, and as into it as he is, as that makes it more a labour of love rather than his own need to nerd out.

Although I would have built it with guns and a remote controlled brain so I could make it go on a killing rampage instead of popping the question, but that's just me.

He should have saved the money for couples counseling because I can guarantee you that when she finds out the full scope of the other issues he has, and you know he has them, (aside from the obvious obsessive behavior) she's going to drop him like a hot rock. Lets be realistic, this thing had one basic function and now all it's capable of doing is holding banners, attracting geeks/fanboys and collecting pigeon sh**. It's a cool statue, very impressive, I'll give him that but I'd sooner put 10 grand towards a big, fat, heavily insured ring and a down payment on a kick ass honeymoon. That is if I were stupid enough to get married again, which I'm not.

If he can find a buyer to buy it for more than it cost to build, he could also have the fancy ring and honeymoon. I could see some rich person buying this for over 10,000 dollars. Either way, any goon with the money can go buy jewelry and book a flight. At least he did something that took some manly work. Why am I defending this guy? I must be really bored.
