Uses the same character designs as the Cyberverse cartoon.

I wonder if this game could fill in the gap between season 1 and 2.

Thanks to a host of Seibertronians, we have news that the new video game Transformers: Battlegrounds has released it's first trailer. This game is set on Earth and features the classics Transformers characters portrayed in their Cyberverse bodies, battling it out for the fate of Earth, Cybertron, and the Allspark.

The video game has been described as a tactical warfare adventure, and will be available for a variety of gaming systems, including the Play Station 4, XBox One, the Nintendo Switch (the first time a Transformers game has been made for Switch), and PC (Stream). The game is currently scheduled for release on October 23, 2020, adding yet another item to the lengthy list of releases for the month of October for Transformers fans.

You can check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

It looks like a mobile game, this is not a compliment. That city environment is so generic it looks like it could be from anything else, ever.

Why couldn't y'all buy more copies and DLC of Devastation a few years back? :(

It and the other TF games have been pulled from all the digital store fronts anyway. Doesn't seem to matter what we buy when Activision is involved. Well at least I can still re-download Devy if the itch ever needs scratching.

Battlegrounds isn't looking good and the lack of actual gameplay doesn't help fill me with confidence either.

I actually did get 2 copies of Devastation, because Zi was unaware that my 1st one was a Euro region one, so I could play it on my PS4, but not get any DLC...heh...

Anyway, yeah, looks disappointing. For all of us that wanted a Devastation Sequel, they took it and made it look like Animal Crossing, hard pass for sure.

There's barely any info on it and the collective online fandom is still loosing their minds over it.

Should at least be grateful we are getting anything period, the graphics might not be AAA but honestly does Transformers "really" need to be that big budget? Gameplay over visuals any day.

Probably going to buy it though it does look like mobile game.
Devastation was one of the last games I bought new from a store for the xbox 360.

...so still not an Age of Empires/Command Conquer style game.

Bugger.

I would play the heck out of that game, especially of you could skin the game to match what ever era you wanted from G1 to Cyberverse.

So far I'm not seeing a great deal of hope with this game but there's still a few months left to go before it launches. Could get better...

I'm more of a TBS than RTS gamer. The news posts referred to the game as a "tactical warfare adventure". Can't say I remember the official site giving any real description of what to expect from the game.

"Adventure" piques my interest and this could be a great fit on the Switch and a gateway into the Cyberberse. I dig Into the Breach and Mutant Year Zero as portable games. Considering the quality of those two games, their presumed similarity and Battlegrounds having a MSRP of $40 my expectations are set pretty high though.

A bit too early to form any real opinion, but they have my attention.

I first saw a screenshot of this on facebook and I was really shocked to learn it was a game for the PS4 rather than a mobile game. We had better graphics in all the Transformers console games of the past 10 years. Also, as far as trailers go, this is the most boring way to make one. I don't see how they thought this could make anyone interested in the game.

To be honest their probably starting off small and safe like how the franchise has sorta been doing that in general for awhile now.

Last 10 years? Heck, I'd add the 2003/2004 PS2 Transformers G1 and Transformers Armada games to the list of games that look better than this game.

Tranformers [Armada] on PS2 still looks a very pretty game. The WFC games and Devastation likewise hold up. This, as many have said, looks like a mobile game. As much as I'm normally against it, they should have at least done the classic slight of hand CG trailer instead of the actual graphics. I doubt this would impress anyone, in particular stating it is on PS4, too.

That's both asinine and overly dismissive. Transformers isn't some indie franchise barely getting by. One that should count its blessings anyone other than the die hard fanbase are even aware of its existence.
It is a global brand that brings in the big bucks.
The issue is entirely down to the platform they are touting this release on. If they honestly said it was a mobile game, it wouldn't have created more than the occasional groan. For release on a modern games console, it needs to look the part.

I need to look into it more but wouldn't suprise me if this was a quick turn around style game, that hasn't been in development that long. Would have been better playing it safer and announce now for a late 2021-22 release on next gen consoles (though that may have been more money then hasbro wanted to spend, which may be another consideration)

Transformers is a niche franchise period especially at this time, there have been great games yeah but not even the Cybertron games would be in most top 100 game lists.

The overall franchise itself is fine but video game development takes a lot of investment to create, which is most certainly something that is being limited with the franchise right now. More then a tv show (usually) and can be on par with a movie.

Not to mention it's a kid's toy franchise at core so obviously their going to be safe with the first game after awhile, test the waters to see if it's even worth investing into bigger projects.

It's a similar reason for going with the almost brand wide Evergreen approach where most things are branded into one cohesive vision that stays relatively safe.

There have been 33 Transformers video games. From 1986 to 2017, including a couple of Online games. Not including some cameos and cancelled projects.

Where is the need to 'play it safe'? Three years isn't that long ago. If they were to release a Dino Riders video game, for example. They would have to be very cautious, as it is a brand that has been dormant for a long time. Transformers has films that make millions and theme park attractions. A 36 year old franchise that has become an established part of pop culture since the Beast Wars revival.

Is this basically Transformers Xcom?

Oh my god I actually need this game now, the Firaxis Xcom games are my favorite Game series and this actually looks like it might be fun.

I didn't care about the first reveal at all, wow what a turn around for me.

Transformers Battlegrounds Gameplay Videos Make it Look like a Kid Friendly XCOM

A new Transformers video game was announced earlier this year and wowed no fan. Granted, what was shown was minimal and uninspiring. We now have a much better sense of the game from multiple gameplay videos which can all be found below. The game looks more like XCOM, with its turn based strategy gameplay and basic environment. You play as 6 different autobots embarking on 20 different missions that span various settings to defeat the Decepticons. You can play as Decepticons in the arcade mode, which also allows multiplayer. It is of course a much kid friendlier game than XCOM with kicking Decepticons in the face rather than performing alien autopsies. We thank Sabrblade for sharing these videos with us.

We also have images for the cover of the game in the US, EU and Australia. We thank -Wonkothesane- for letting us know of these. The game is available to preorder on Amazon right now.

Reminds me of 'The Rise of the Darkspark' 3DS game in terms of look and gameplay.
