Greetings Seibertronians! Fellow Seibertron user, Hokutron, has let us know that Free to Play, Massively Multilayer Online game, World of Warships, has announced, that in September, they'll be launching a collaboration with Transformers!

While more details are to follow, they've announced that four unique Transformers ship skins will be available for players initially, allowing them to choose from Optimus Prime and Bumblebee (representing the Autobots), and Megatron and Rumble (representing the Decepticons). Each will have recognizable phrases and voice-overs. While not given much detail, they're will also be unique missions and other Transformers themed items when the update launches.

Commanders!

We are happy to announce that World of Warships is partnering up with Transformers in a brand-new collaboration! Autobots and Decepticons will be introduced for a limited time as themed ship skins and commanders in a much-anticipated update planned for this September.

Four iconic Transformers characters will be released initially as unique ship skins and commanders with recognizable phrases and voiceovers. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will set the stage for the heroic Autobots, with Megatron and Rumble to be available as their eternal foes — the Decepticons.

The coming Transformers collaboration will also bring a host of other new content, including special Transformers containers, dedicated in-game Combat Missions, consumable camouflages, commemorative flags and patches, and more.

So we get Rumble and BB as Warships. As opposed to the actual Warship Bots - Broadside and Tidal Wave, because....?

Because they want characters people know.
(Though why they used Frenzy is beyond me)

Why would they use two obscure characters no one knows about?

This is just the kind of platform to bring the obscure to the masses. Making them popular in the process. I mean without some push, the odds of either being in a series or game again are negligible.

I suspect more character's are going to be added in the run up to the content launch. Broadside and Tidal Wave may still appear.

The funniest part is that this is literally Broadside's thing and he didn't even make the cut.

Man, if those were actual transforming toys, I'd be all in. As it is, I think I'm going to miss the boat on this one.

While the choices in characters here may seem odd to us the fans of transformers, they make perfect sense for increasing brand recognition with the general public (more specifically the World of Warships player base.). People see Prime, Bumblebee and Megs and they instantly know who they're looking at and what the deal is. Sure Tidal Wave and Broadside make more sense for this, but most people probably wouldn't know what they're looking at until they see a piece of the collaboration marketing or an autobot/decepticon symbol. And even then they probably wouldn't care too much because it's one of the more obscure triple changers and a guy who was in one cartoon (and video game) over a decade ago. Could also make people scoff at transformers if they found out broadside is both an aircraft carrier and a jet at the same time (I know calling transformers absurd how dare I).
That being said the inclusion of Frenzy (Frenzy is the red one to me don't @ me) is really odd for this. You think they would have gone with Soundwave or Starscream. You know one of the more popular and recognizable characters. Not one of Soundwave's mini cassettes. It's like partnering Prime with someone like Cosmos or Outback.

I’m mourning the fact that I don’t play WoW. Because these guys look AWESOME!!!

My personal favorite skin is Rumble, but I have to ask; why not use Shockwave in his place? A warship in his colors would make an absolutely epic skin, and an even better toy.

That being said, warship Transformers would rock. I would total buy those as well.

Don't worry guys, I got your back. Greenbrier have released such a toy in their very legitimate and stellar ROBOT line. They didn't provide a name, but I have come to uh........lovingly refer to him (or her, we don't know the deep ROBOT lore) as BIG BOAT.

If you look inside the ship you can see some bots manning the guns.

Autobots got this generic blue guy that looks like one of the Decepticon generic cars from the Devastation game.



But it looks like Soundwave is in the Decepticon ships from the brief glimpse we get, or is it Soundblaster? Either way it appears to be someone with a square, yellow outlined chest.

Gotta be honest it was unintentional, but I have been making puns in my life for so long, I probably just make them unintentionally sometimes.

Shockwave does at least have some precedent..



More than Rumble/Frenzy, at any rate. It is weird why a Cassette would get pride of place over Starscream, Soundwave or Shockwave to be fair. If this was based purely on marketing and brand recognition
