Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles

I couldn't find the old thread, so I started this new one:

Rondo of Blood, one of the finer games in the Castlevania series, is also one of the ones to NOT make it to America.

Curse you, Konami! CURSE YOOUUUU!!

Well, now Rondo of Blood is coming to America, on the PSP, with the name Dracula X Chronicles. (Named for Dracula X, the cheap SNES substitute for Rondo)

With new graphics, the original gameplay, and a port of Symphony of the Night, Dracula X Chronicles looks to be a must-buy for PSP owners.

Who pre-ordered this so far? Note that the Gamestop website lists that it's dropped it's price from $39.99 to $29.99.

Sweet, $30= aproxx €23 which is half what it will be here, IF you can find it. Over here God help you getting a Casltevania game after its launch weekend :-( . As it will probably come out way after the US release and in small quantities I'll probably preorder it as well, though not on Gamestop as its online order page hates my cc's and their international shipping sucks.

Will this game be worth spending several hundred on a PSP when you're living on student loans?

Why can't it come out on DS? How long is the battery life on the PSP? Can it recharge?

Damn I want this game so bad.

A second hand psp won't set you back too much. It wont come out on the ds as SotN will probably be emulated like the PSN version. The battery life sucks, but is supposed to be better on the new lite version, is rechargable and comes with a multivolt charger so you can recharge it anywhere in the world without a step up/down transformer unlike the ds.

What would be the point? How would it use the touch screen?

I can understand making new games for that, I encourage it, but this is an old game that never relied on a gimmick. Nor is SotN.

The PSP battery life is only about 3 hours (Running a wireless network with the screen on it's brightest setting) to 11 hours (Running MP3s with the screen off). It comes with a rechargeable battery, and a cord to recharge the battery.

Plus, there's so many cool games.

Dracula X Chronicles
Final Fantasy Tactics
Devil May Cry (A port? A remake? Who can say!)
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
Mega Man Powered Up
Final Fantasy I AND II (Separate games, but far prettier than the GBA version, AND they include the extra dungeons from the GBA versions)
Crisis Core FF7
Dissidia Final Fantasy
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Lumines
Metal Gear Portable Ops

And there's a bunch more.

To Hell with the touch screen. :-P My favorites barely use it. Portrait literally doesn't use it except for some of Charlotte's attacks and Sisters mode, which is not that great.

But just like I'll get a PS3 for GTA 4, I'll get a PSP for this new Castlevania.

GTA IV is also coming out for Xbox 360, just in case you didn't want to waste $200.

Well, I've got other PS games so I'd rather get PS3. It's backwards compatible right?

No idea what that means. :-?

We'll just say "Sort Of."

The Japanese and US 20 & 60 GB PS3s have the ps2 hardware in them so will play just about every ps1 and 2 game. The European and US 80gb versions are emulated just like the x360 so will only play ps1 & ps2 games that are on their compatability list.

What about the classic disc read error problem that older PS2's had?

I heard about this and I am very interested in buying it. It also gives me one of several reasons to finally buy a PSP. When does this game come out again?

It doesn't seem to affect the ps3 but with earilier firmware version if you aren't playing in prog scan some of the textures were being reversed making ps2 games even more jaggy than they usually are.

Here's a comparison of DXC and Rondo of Blood.

To be fair, whoever was playing the PSP version (The Japanese already got it) can't play very well. When he was fighting...I guess it was a golem...he apparently couldn't tell that HE WASN'T DOING ANY FREAKING DAMAGE! He hits the head, the golem reacts, and he KEEPS HITTING THE INVINCIBLE SPOT!

Here is a close up of some letters on a screen in God of War using a ps3 in 480i

And here is a comparison of the same letter 480i/480p

Finaly a screenshot comparison

As I mentioned this problem has since been fixed and is no longer a problem.
