I just went and bought the Half Life2 'Holiday 2006' pack that has Half Life 1 Source included. It wasn't really my intention to play both but if you have would you strongly recommend I do :-?

(I bought this b/c the used HF2 I got from Ebay didn't work due to the Steam registration grrrrrrrr)

Well HL2 is the kind of masterful sequel to an already great game that wont alienate you from its source material just because its a sequel.

But because HL1 was so good, and now even better running on the Source engine then just for continuities sake youd be better off playing through the first one first and then moving onto the sequel. The story in HL2 will make a bit more sense if you do and you will get some of the little in-jokes and stuff but otherwise you dont HAVE to play through the first if you dont wanna, but if youve got it you might as well.

You could always wait for Black Mesa Source to come out on Steam.

It's H-L1 using the H-L2 engine. I don't know if it has the Havok engine or not, though.
