I'm a fan of the Half-Life series in particular, (I had HL2 it, but made the mistake of selling it). The TimeSplitter series as well, along with Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Doom series, and Counter Strike (former Source player here).

I never played Half Life 1 or 2 I heard of something called orange box with HL2, day 1, and the goofy hoke game So I think I might pick that up. But to answer your question Goldeneye is my favorite it was one of the 1st FPS where the object of the game was not go inside room and shoot everything. there were clear hard objectives and I feel proud that I beat the game on 00 agent. Next I have to say Perfect Dark (which I could not beat on Perfect agent.) I dont understand how people like these "clear the room" FPS's

Star Wars: Republic Commando-Fun, dark, creepy Star Wars game.
Halo Series-Really made me appreciate FPS games.
BLACK-The most beautiful FPS I've ever played, especially the explosions.
Metroid Prime Series-Metroid = Win, in any situation.
DooM Series-Ultimate DooM was the first game to scare me. Everything else was just gravy
Half-Life Series-It's a pretty game, with incredible physics. The only problem is that Ravenholm scares the ever-loving crap out of me. (I have a weird phobia of Toxic Headcrabs.)

Metroid Prime...but apparently its a FPA. A "First Person Adventure". I suppose it still count, since you got a gun and its First Person!

WOLFENSTIEN 3d...oh the memories.
Good to see that people arentgoing crazy saying how much Halo revelutionised FPS games and how there is no better games than Halo, personally I think its overated, I aknowledge that it is a pretty good game, but not good enough to warrant the hype it gets.
Quake series
Doom series
Return to castle Wolfenstien (I was so happy when this came out)
Deus Ex (although im still not sure how to pronounce it...Due?deuce?Daeus?)

It's pronounced "DAY-us."

My favorite one is probably the first Medal On Honor on the PS1. I didn't really FPS at all until I played Medal Of Honor and that really got me into FPS.
I also like MOD: Frontline. MOD: Underground and MOD: European Assault are okay.
Other FPS I like are:
Unreal Tournament (PS2 version)
Killzone
Rainbow Six 3
Rainbow Six: Lockdown
Quake II
Metroid Prime is also one of my favorite games of all-time, but like Nico I consider it more adventure than shooter.

It was bascially a UT that pulled all the key and vital ingredients that make a FPS awesome together perfectly. But it's a fun game nonetheless.

I have a couple of faves:
Half Life - looks very dated but I still bloody love it. "Welcome to Black Mesa" indeed

UT GOTY - again rather dated but has amazing gameplay and I still regularly play it online with someone. None of the other UT games held my interest.
F.E.A.R - seeing *far* too little love for this gem of a game. In what other FPS do you get to flying kick around corners, go bullet-time
and fight ghosts?

Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
Doom 3
Quake 4
Halo
Halo 2
F.E.A.R. (wich I need to pick back up again)
Some old school FPSs:
Doom
Quake 2
Half-Life
Star Wars: Dark Forces

i miss the goofy FPS games- they weren't great, but they were still loads of fun.
rise of the triad- come on, when you entered the God mode cheat, you got a pair of hands that cast death dealing orbs that killed everything as it flew ahead of you.
Shadow Warrior- a Ninja FPS
Duke Nukem 3D- a playable version of "big trouble in little china" or any similar movie.
and though they were a headache, from Doom to Nuke Em, you could (with a .Wad editor) edit levels, make your own.
okay, goofy games aside, i really liked:
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Timekillers series
Goldeneye (the best, ever)
one last comment. who the heck ever liked those terminator FPS games?

Well, given the time between the last two posts, I guess no one has said Portal.
Portal is awesome, and if it doesn't get a sequel, I will hurt someone. Possibly with a rock.
No, I'm serious. When you beat it you don't go "Well, it took a whole evening, but I'm done. Time to shelve this thing, and go do heroin," because heroin is bad, but also because the replay value is astounding. (For the game, not heroin) It has achievements, and not much else. There's no alternate endings, no extra content for beating it multiple times, and nothing to discover on a second playthrough. Nothing, nada, ziltch.
But for some reason, at least once a week, I say "Hey, why not go through Portal again?" And then I do.

Yeah the whole Orange Box is class, seeing that I wasn't bothered to pick up ep 1 first time around.
Portal is awesome, although short and uses a concept that good fodder for comedy.

Ohh, I wanted you to say something about the heroin jokes, and then I'd say "SHUT UP GIANT SPIDER MONSTER, JESUS SAYS I DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOU ANYMORE FLABBITY BLAH BLAH! WOOOooooooooo..."

Yup. Hands down, the most fun I've had in an FPS ever.
The Halo series ranks up there as well. Not really a giant fan of Half Life because I hate Gordon Freeman's muteness. You can't connect with the character if they show no signs of actually being there.

If FPA is allowed, then Oblivion hands down for me. As far as FPS are concerned, the Half-Life series (Portal included), the Halo series, BioShock, the Chronicals of Riddick, and the first two Turok games are my favs.
I can't wait for the new Turok next year, definetly looks badass. As for the worst FPS I vote for South Park. It's the only game that I have ever thrown away.

If you haven't played HL2Ep1, then watch out for the tunnels section. You'll **** bricks.

I have played it. In fact, I've also played Episode 2. I seem to have gotten over my fear of Toxic headcrabs, though. They're more annoying than freaky to me now, for some reason.

Yeah, once you get out of that tunnel, and up the lift, they're just not as scary.
Also helps that I barricaded myself into a room with a bench and some barrels, which stopped the zeds dead in their tracks, so I could pelt them with flares using the gravity gun.
