Metroid Prime 3: What was Nintendo thinking?

I had a chance to rent this game and hoenstly I'm blown away! not only do the graphics demonstrate the best the Wii can possibly offer, but the control is unparalled. Its also a landmark title for Nintendo as its the first Nintendo game to feature full voice acting. but then the dissapointment comes: wheres the multiplayer?

Nintendo decied to not put multiplayer in this and Honestly I think its stupid: with the hands down best fps control on a console ever, why would you not put multiplayer in? The big N could of easily had a "halo killer" with this one but they went ahead and held up the white flag and didn't even try.

And what makes even less sense is Metroid Prime 2 had it! WTF Were they thinking?

Nintendo Wii Sales may be way ahead of 360 for now, but the total unsportiveness of On-line capabilities, and multiplayer will be the death of Nintendo, You watch!

Did you actually play the multiplayer on Metroid Prime 2?
It was absolutely terrible.
I for one am really glad that retro decided to focus all of there time on creating an atmospheric and absorbing single player game. I already believe the Metroid Prime games are Halo killers, as only the first halo game was any good. The next two are just over hyped pieces of crap who just happen to have fantastic multiplayer modes.

I think your being a little harsh saying Nintendo are unsupportive of online play. You've gotta bare in mind that this is Nintendo's first stab at an online network. I took two and a half years for the original x-box to get a decent online framework in place and they've been making networks since the dawn of time
I don't think its a case of them not wanting to do stuff, its more they physically can't yet, with what they've got in place at the moment.
I'm not saying im a big fan on Nintendo's network, friend codes are undeniably retarded, but at least there trying

Well he does kind of have a point. Hunters' multiplayer was pretty good. And they introduced 3 new hunters too. I was expecting to unlock them in MP as I beat them in single. It would have been a nice diversion until Halo 3 came out.

Metriod prime should not be compared to Halo 3 they are two completely different games

The Wii is only ahead of the 360 in sales because it isnt a gamers console. Parents see it and its cheap price and kiddie friendly games and think "oh that would make a good gift for my little, impressionable child" and they buy one.

Only die hard Nintendo fanboys boy the Wii, and so do non-gamers like the aforementioned parents, and old people.

The real gamers console (360) appeals to real gamers who want to play real games on and offline. Once the novelty of the Wii has worn off, and people realize that stupid controller is just a pointless gimmick the system will die as nothing it has in its games library can even hold a candle to other titles coming and already out on other systems.

Gamers might have a Wii, but i will give you 50 quid if you can find me a true, hardcore gamer who uses their Wii as their primary console, as the VAST majority only use it as a secondary console at best.

The 360 is still the most played and has the best games thanks to its flawless online play. Not to mention its HD capabilities and movie playback and what not, stuff the Wii doesnt have.

Oh and lets not forget Halo 3. :P

Now, if you HADN'T made this post, I wouldn't have to start he Fanboy argument up again.

EDIT: And, to include actual numbers (Rather than assumptions), 360 is only above the Wii by LESS than 1 million units. Meaning Wii has sold faster in one year than 360 has sold in two.

Also, the PS3 and Wii are both outselling the 360 in Japan.

The multiplayer didn't really work well for the Metroid Prime series. I liked it on MP2, but alot of people didn't.

Plus, people that had played all the way through the game would have an unfair advantage over those who haven't.
I would've liked a multiplayer as a freebie though. Many tournies could have been held using MP then.

At least we have MP2 and, more importantly, MP Hunters for multiplayer, huh?

No, LET'S forget Halo 3. In fact, let's forget the 360 in general. Let's forget the console that crashes every time you try to play "the best games".
And you owe me 50 quid bud. I can't believe you can look at Wii sales and reviews and think that no one would buy it as a primary console. And how could you suggest that it isn't a gamer's console? You think it is just for little kids and old men? Play Twilight Princess and then let's see what you think. Sure, The Wii has plenty of games for non-gamers and young children, but there are plenty of games for "real gamers" too and not Just Nintendo fanboys. You act like you think it's a bad thing that the Wii can be played by everyone in contrast to your precious 360 which can only be played by people with the patience to deal with frequent crashes red lights of doom.
Don't even think about calling me a Nintendo fanboy because I defend Nintendo and its Wii. I'm a SEGA fan and I like the Wii, as a PRIMARY console. And yes, I am a "true gamer."

Haha, your arguements against the 360 are so lame and wrong. They made me laugh because they sounded so stupid.

Oh and i have never met a person who uses the Wii as a primary console so that 50 stays in my pocket. The fact is it is just for young children, have you even looked at its libray of games? What about twilight princess? Thats just that crappy zelda game isnt it? A sequel to a series of games that has been stale for years. Whats adult or good about it?

Like i say, Wii only outsells everything else because it is cheap, kid-friendly crap that parents can buy, and kids can enjoy the gimmicks. When it comes to REAL games, it has nothing.

I own both. One gets kinda dull after a short amount of playing time, the other keeps me entertained for months on end. I play one daily, I havn't played the other since the day I bought it.

360 wins in my book, and Sonray is right in my view. I have the games I love while playing with my friends. Nothing beats that kind of experience, epsecially if its people you know from school. Saying halo 3 or Halo in general sucks is an ignorant statement, considering the latest sequel has sold more than any peice of entertainment (movies, games, anything) inside of 24 hours.

Sure, the Wii is fun but the only time I played it without having a friend over for some wii-sports was the day i bought it and played Red Steel for a few hours. Me and my buds play bowling or baseball for a few rounds then get bored and head for the Xbox to play some Gears and/or Halo 3. The only games that look half-decent in the shadow of the plethora of 360 games are No More Heroes and the Bleach game (which is likely to be crap).

As far as numbers and sales rates are concerned, who gives a damn. Why doesn't the Wii or 360 sell well in Japan? Sony runs Japan. All I know is that I <3 playing my 360 while the rest of my family (parents and 2 sisters) have fun with the Wii.

Compare games and system capabilities then give me the victor, including upcomming releases so the Wii isn't totally shut out with only Metroid (of which I have never played any). Call me a fanboy, it's nothing short of true; but I do have an unbiased opinion on the subject since I do own both and have played both while only choosing one as the better console. Xbox 360.

In Japan, Wii has outsold both both PS3 and 360. To be perfectly honest, 360 has sold LESS than a half a million units in Japan.

Alright, that was a joke. So what's the big deal with Japan? It doesn't sell there...woopty-friggin-doo. Why not look at Europe, Australia, or North America? I fail to see where Japan is significant over other places.

There really aren't that many good games out for the Wii.(currently, that will change down the line, like with any system)

Seriously, Metroid Prime 3, and Zelda are the only ones.

I don't own Wii, and I don't plan to until they announce, or come close to releasing the next Zelda game.

I loved the first Metroid Prime, but the second wasn't too thrilling to me. You really can't compare Metroid and Halo. They are completely different games.

I own Twilight Princess, on the system it's supposed to be played on, the Gamecube. The GC:TP is the correct version of the game. And it's this reason that prevents me from buying a Wii now.

The Wii is a family system. Nintendo has always been like this. Through all the games Nintendo have put out over the years, how many were gems, and how many were crap?

It's the way Nintendo works. EGM brought up a real good point. Remember back when Nintendo offered their "Original Nintendo Seal of Quality" on games? Well, they don't offer that anymore, just the "Original Nintendo Seal."

The 360 has more games geared toward the actual gamer, and more are on the way. The Wii is fun, it's fun to play Mario Party with friends, etc. But other than that, there are currently very very few games worth my time as a gamer.

Edit: If you look at the line-up of games you'll buy for the Wii. Whats on that list? Metroid Prime, LoZ:TP, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, and maybe a small handful of other games, like Elebits.

Other than that, Wii just has the virtual console going for it. It's a great idea, spend a small amount and get some great games from the NES, SNES and N64 days.

But then, if thats the reason why you bought a Wii, to buy and download older games. Whats the point, when you can eliminate the entire thing and go download the stuff? Or just boot up your SNES, etc and just put the game in.

I'm starting to get tired of Halo 3 and Metroid Prime. I mean the only reason you say it's sweet is because you played it before. I loved Halo 1 but in Halo 2 they took away some of the great single player stuff and put in multiplayer to make up for it. Same thing happened to Prime 2 echoes fun but will never be as fun as it used to be. As for the Wii and 360 I like them both. Wii has bunch of uniqe and fun games and when I get tired of all that I'll play a bunch of shoot em up games on the 360 and then switch back to the Wii when i get bored of that

Here's one: Me. Heres another one, my buddy Mike. Both of us are more PC gamers than we are Console gamers. The Wii is the only console that actually has fun appeal to it. other then Halo 3 the 360 just has a bunch of PC ports, that look and play better on the PC. And in 2 years you know Halo 3 will be on PC anyway. And the 360 is a piece of crap. Its made by illegal aliens at a company called Foxconn. I know this because Foxconn also builds HP's and I work for HP at the Foxconn site. The people on the line that build the 360's are treated like slaves and forced to move faster and faster, and the result is a crappy product that gived you the infamous "red ring of death". Oh and its total crap you have to pay for X-box live. I can go buy a PC game right now, fire up X-fire for free and get on-line without paying a $50/yr fee for it. speaking of ripping you off, that seems to be all the know how to do with the 360, with outrageous prices for all their accessories. I mean $100 for a USB wi-fi adapter...come on! I can get on new egg and order one for my PC for under $20! Oh and let us not for get $200 for a 120gb hard drive, when, once again, I could get a 500gb for my PC for much less.

Another thing that annoys me is the joke for backwards compatibility. Last Christmas I picked up Mortal Kombat Armeggedon for Xbox, and I thought I'd pop it in my roommate's 360 to see it it worked, and sure enough a BRAND NEW X-BOX GAME didn't work in it. "This original X-box title is unsupported". Now being a PC fan, I understand the differences between ATI and NVidia graphics, but come on, they should of delayed the system for a year, threw on some original X-box memory ports so you can transfer your game saves over, and released a perfect emulator for the X-box!

My roommate's on his second 360, his first one was overheating. I have it dismantled in my closet and I have an internal cooling solution picked out, and I'm also going to remove both heatsinks and clean off all the thermal gunk and replace it with arctic silver. but I haven't had much motivation because I got a Wii, and other than a DVD player, and the possible HD DVD add on, I probably won't play it a whole lot.

I don't totally hate the 360, but it really is a dissapointment in comparison to its predecessor, the big black box. I've had my original X-box for 3 years now, its my primary dvd player, and you really can't beat the original Halo. I've never had a single problem with it. No disc read errors, no red ring of death, no lock ups, etc. For its time it was a much better powerhouse then the Xbox 360 is in 2007!

btw the REAL gamer console is the PC

Anyway yeah I agree its a different system for Metroid prime. Its actually considered a "first person platformer" because it is. It plays identical to the classic metroid but in 1rst person pov. however in MP3 seems they are trying to attack Halo more with the full speech, and the fact at least what I've seen, it didn't seem like such a lonley experience.

Now I haven't played Halo 3 much yet, I know my roommate is obssessed with it, and literally played it for 20 hours one day on live. but I do know 2 was dissapointing for me. It was awesome until you had to play as the damn arbiter. If I wanted to play as an alien, I would of bought a game where I played as a damn alien! I bought Halo 2 to play as the mastercheif, and honestly that whole section ruined the game. And from what I've heard about Halo 3, is the single player mode is extremely mediocre, with nothing memorable while the multiplayer has been pumped up on steriods again, but still weak in comparison to Unreal Tournament 2004 or Battlefield 2.

So I kind of see the point now to MP3 not having multiplayer. I'd rather have a good story mode anyway. After all, thats what I loved so much about the first Halo... at the time it was just a completly unique and different FPS experience. Now its just overdone.

*raises hand*

I use the Wii as my primary (and only console).

I didn't want to risk dealing with the 3rlod (XBox360).
I didn't want to deal with the crap Sony puts in, before the name goes on. (PS3, PS2, etc.)

I bought the Wii because it fit my needs just right and continues to do so.

I use all of my GameCube games on it, I use Wii games on it, and I've bought several Virtual Console games (that I play over and over, and will be buying more soon!)

so...yeah, there went your 50 Quid.

Well, they scrapped multiplayer to spend more time on the game itself. Beside, the game is a hit...so far. Im pretty they will make another Metroid on the Wii, even if its not listed as "Prime". They could make Metroid 5. It was supposed to be 2-d and to be a sequel to Metroid 4 A.K.A Fusion. But it could be sweet to make it a 3-d game intead.

Also, Nintendo decided to work hard on this game, becuase of Halo 3. As for voice acting, i don't mind as long as Samus remain. I also beleive they dint added a multiplayer to avoid commentary like: "Nintendo is afraid of microsoft, so they ripped-off Halo." Multiplayer isnt Nintendo stuff, anyway...they are better at making awesome Single-player game. BUT, they do have an interest in the potential of Multiplayer. Thats why they work hard on Smash.

I know the Wii is for casual game, which i am not. BUT, i dont like the Xbox. I jsut dont like it. Thats why i will never buy it. Of course, i love Sony. But the PS3 is simply too costly.

All the serie i love are from Sony and Nintendo. Final fantasy, Castlevania, Metroid, Zelda. Those are the console serie i really enjoy. Beside, what the **** is a damn freakin blue-ray shit-thing anyway?

I use the Wii as my primary console. My 360 became frightfully dull far too quickly.

As for Twilight Princess, I don't see why it's any less adult than many other games.
