because i felt it inappropiate to type what i was really thinking.

My 2ND ps3 just died on me. The first was purchased at launch and didnt work straight out of the box. They sent me this one in late november under there warrantly, and now it has crapped out on me.

Worked fine friday night, i go to turn it on today and am greated with a lovely blank screen.

Oh well maybe this one will be covered also...of course the receipt is barely legible now. :-x

sorry, i'm venting.

Go Wii! :P
Seriously though, that sucks. That's a lot of money to put down for something that doesn't work.

Hmm, this is actually the first instance I've heard of a PS3 breaking down, but then again, it usually did take about a year or two before PS1's and PS2's started crapping out.

Unfortuneately, looks like the first produced PS3's are gonna end up like the first run PS1's and PS2's(there have been exceptions though).

Damn, I hope that doesn't happen to mine. I got mine off somebody from ebay who imported a bunch from Hong Kong. I've got no warranty on it. But it's been working fine so far.

Man...that's weird.... I've never had a Sony system die on my. My PS1 still functions somehow, wherever it is. And I bought my PS2 that midnight it came out, and it still works great too!

I've had my PS3 since December last year, and it's still workin great...that hard-drive space is a-shrinkin tho!

My first PSX died on me a year after I got it and we got a new one the day after Christmas that worked fine. I stopped using that one (it probably still works too) when I got my PS2 which is showing it's age with the disk read error on most DVDs and some games. While I'm tempted ot just buy a new PS2 I figure it isn't worth it until it stops working entirely, especially when I'm waiting for a much eneded, huge price drop on PS3. As long as it can still play games I'll use it in hopes Sony gets a reality chekc and drops their PS3 to $400.

Between the Red Ring Fiasco and your PS3's breaking down, my best advice is get a Wii with LOZ: TP, SSB, and MP3. Plus you can download some old-school games you might like.

yeah, this is the first sony system i have had any trouble with(well...not including when drunk friends dumped my first ps2 off my tvstand, but that only busted the dvd-portion...still works great with the HDD crack though  ) This thing (the ps3) is proving to be nothing but a headache. Even if they do cover it under the warranty, this will be my 3rd ps3 in less than a year.

I've never had a problem with my PSX or PS2 in the past, although my PS2 (one of the first run models) has finally begun to break down. It makes a clicking sound when reading Smackdown 07, so I guess the cd lense or turntable is beginning to wear. Strangely though, that's the only game it does it to. o_o

isn't '07 dvd based. If it is, then its probably your dvd laser. Oddly one of the first games that ever gave me trouble on my ps2 was one of the early smackdown games, and iirc it is not uncommon for them to cause the system to make those sounds.

And an update on my ps3: I just got off the phone with sony tech support and they say they are going to send me another new/refurbished unit, despite the condition of my receipt...

I predict this will still be an issue however, as they do not want me to send the originalreceipt(even though the warranty is almost up) and it wont photocopy well at all. Oh well maybe if i take it to kinkos they can work some magic. they are bound to atleast have a better photocopier than i do...

At E3, they showed that they actually DO have some cool games coming out.

God of War III
Final Fantasy XIII
Haze
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Confirmed by Konami to be PS3-exclusive. However, an updated version, a la MGS2: Substance, and Twin Snakes, is likely to be non-exclusive)
Tekken 6
White Knight Chronicles (Which convinced Penny Arcade to get a PS3)
And...Zone of the Ender 3? THREE?! HOLY HELL! LIFE IS WORTH LIVING!

Not to mention Devil may cry, guitar hero 3, Need For Speed Pro Street(pleaaaaase be better than carbon)gh and NFS im sure wont be exclusive...DMC i believe is, could be wrong...either way.

Bad time for my PS3 to crap out...

(and if you read the above posts you can see that I know it has a years warranty...my only concern is that i'm going to have to jump through hoops because my receipt is so faded it is almost impossible to read)

GO WII!

None of my Nintendo consoles have ever crapped out on me!
Even my decades-old SNES still works to perfection! :BOT::CON:

Nintendo consoles are built like brick shit-houses.

Although, the only problem with the 360 is the coolant gel isn't it?

They're supposed to be fixing that for later generations of the 360...

Nintendo consoles shall live forever my 64 still works better than my 360. Truthfully I think the PS3 is just an overpriced bluray player and me Optitron no like BLURAY. My 360 got the red lights even though i should get it back by friday which is why I've been playind my Wii like crazy I already beat Metroid Prime and supe paper mario.

Have you ever seen what it takes to make a Gamecube stop working? It's nearly impossible. That compact little box shape has been a source for a lot of ridicule but you have to admit, it's a good design. I have never heard of a Gamecube not working. Then again, I haven't heard much about NESs diying either... Sony and Microsoft really need to stop focusing so much on graphics and start focusing on making a console that never breaks. If Nintendo could find the money to do it, I'm sure companies like Sony and flippin' Microsoft could spare a dime to make their consoles durable.

well i'll be damned...They are sending me another Unit. I'm actually quite impressed that they didnt fight me over the receipt issue. Perhaps luck was on my side this was a replacement unit for my first one. Oh well lets see how long ps3 #3 lasts.

PS3's come to my house to die.

yeah you shouldn't need a receipt. They should be able to tell when it was manufactured by the Serial Number.

Nintendo systems are invincible...except for the first one. The NES's loading system was jacked. Yeah mine worked till I got rid of it, but man I really ahd to fight with it to get it to fire up games towards the end of its life. Pushing the tray up and down, pushing the power on and off, blowing in the cartridge, etc, other than that no problems. As for the Wii, only problem I've heard is a buddy of mine's Gamecube ports don't work. nintendo's going to fix it for him and send it back, hopefully quicker than MS's 8 weeks.

Many systems have there problems, and launch systems are almost all crap. PSX's had an issue with there launch systems: There was a certian combination on the controller when pressed would blow out the controller chip. There were like 6 or 7 different revisions of the PSX, mine happened to be the last original model before the PSone redesign. It still works, in storage somewhere.

Xbox's seemed durable. Mine's been thrown in a backpack countless times for travel, still works fine. Great DVD player too! In fact since I've got my Wii thats about all my Xbox is. Its my main DVD player. Remote sucks though.

It's the Red light on the X-Box 360. Basically if the light is red, the Box is dead.

It's caused by a manufacturing defect that Microsoft discovered after units were shipped. Now from what I've been told and I may have been told wrong, MS found out about it and did nothing to warn consumers in advance until it hit the fan. Now they're spending a billion getting it fixed and replacing the 360's with post defect 360s. (The red ring of death is what keeps me from buying a 360 ATM) They even tried to blame it on surge protectors at one point instead of sacrificing a little pride and admitting they screwed up.

My NES survived quite a few beatings. One especially was when my dog got caught on the controller and tried to pull away. She brought the system crashing down from the shelf. The Locking portion of the cartridge slot (on the original models) never worked after that. I usually had to put in a 2nd cartridge to keep the first one down. Eventually, I just kept my Game Genie in at all times.

My original NES worked like a charm up until 1998. When I gave it to my cousin

I don't know what happened to it after that.
But both my original gameboys play like a dream.
