If I had to choose what the greatest system thus far would be, the Super Nintendo would be my choice. It made it's debut with several great titles, and maintained overall greatness throughout it's lifespan. It never really got bad, instead it always got better and better.

Although the SNES was my first console (And still something I like to occasionally play), I had all of five games for it. By comparison, we had around thirty games for our Sega Genesis, something like fifteen to twenty for Nintendo 64, And only a handful for PS1.
Now, I cannot, for the life of me, count all the games I owned for PS2. The number of PS2 games I've owned (And subsequently traded in) outnumber both my Gamecube games and Xbox games greatly.
That said, while SNES will always hold my #1 spot (If only because of sentimental value), PS2 I still see as the Perfect Console. It's versatility was incredible, it had more variety of genres, and more developers. (Including the ever-skillful Japanese, who aren't very fond of the Xbox and the 360)

I agree with you on the PS2 being an outstanding system. Like the SNES, it started with a bang—I almost wet myself when I first played MGS2. I guess the SNES stands out to me because it took 16 bits to places people never imagined (Star Fox, Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct—graphics, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger—size). But yeah, the PS2 is a superb system.

Super Nes is pretty cool. I like it cause there are a ton of little known games out there for it to hunt down. It also has a lot of well-known games, and quite possibly the best Ninja Turtles game ever released on a system, Turtles in Time

. The king of the 2D era in my opinion, though the Genesis probably has a lot of winners too(I don't have many Genesis games).
But the PS2 does have the largest and most varied library though, and it's the king of this generation so far.

Ah, Turtles in Time, one of the best games in my collection. Another little known and rare game that many TransFans I think would like is Metal Warriors. It was developed by Konami and Lucas Arts, and it was basically Blaster Master on speed (you could get in and out of your mech and switch to different mechs). The two-player vs. mode was sweet too!

I think I own all of ten games for my SNES. But I do own two SNESs

Even going back and playing it now, the visuals are crisp and beautiful. I will always love my mario games on the SNES, and Star Fox is an excellent (if hard) game.

I used to LOVE playing both of those games. And could never remember the name of that mech game. Ironically, I've never owned them. I always rented them. I hope they release them both for the Virtual Console, or XBLA. But I'd prefer them on the Wii b/c of the Classic Controller's similarity to the SNES's. And I hate Microsoft.
But even though the SNES has alot of good games, I prefer the N64. Zelda OoT, MM, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye. So many great games. And there's little known or little appreciated games like Rush 2049 and Megaman 64.

the super nintendo was/is an awesome system with great games, but the N64 is my all-time favorite.

I loved my N64 so much it's all but died from overuse.
And I really really want to say that the SNES was my favourite console, but the Wii has it beat. The Wii in itself is a fantastic console and has 5 standout games on it already, not to mention access to the Nintendo back catalogues!

Ah the SNES....I remember it fondly. Such great games. I didn't have a lot of games for it, but I did rent a lot of them back in the day, & have played & beaten nearly every landmark title. a couple of my favorites(in no particular order):
-Super Metroid (played it so much I have actually beat it in under an hour, & recently after not playing it in years picked it up & found everything but 1 missle upgrade by memory)
-Contra 3
-Illusion of Gaia
-Castlevania 4
-Zelda 3
-Killer Instinct (had every combo memorized)
-Mortal Kombat 2 (all fatalities memorized....just not babalities & friendships)
-Megaman X
-Actraiser
-Super R-type
-Super Mario World
-Street Fighter 2 Turbo
The list goes on & on.....

Yeah, it's possible....but you have to be really good at wall-jumping & plot a course ahead of time & skip a lot of non-essential upgrades(missles & energy tanks). I got the idea for trying myself after seeing a list of people that had done it in an issue of Nintendo Power back in the day. I believe my time was about 52 min.

true, but when i was little i used to think the gamegear was the greatest thing in the history of mankind.

Game Gear's are huge! And they take six AA batteries, so they're a battery eater. I borrowed one from my friend, and I used his power adaptor so I didn't have to worry about batteries.
But when I was a kid, I always wanted a Nomad. It was probably more of a battery hog than the Game Gear, but what an awsome idea it was. You literaly had a console in your hands.

True, the Nomad was a great idea, and Sega was ahead of its time with that and the gamegear, hence the huge battery needs
But who still has a Dreamcast I wonder?

The best I could do was just under 3 hours, so I could get the best ending. You beat me—so here's your reward...

It really wasn't too terribly complicated, but honestly when I was a teen there was a while where I had gotten really good due to renting games all the time, & then we moved out to the country where it was about a 10 mi trip to go rent something, so I was stuck with just the 5 or 6 games we owned, so I just ended up playing Super Metroid, MK2, & Killer Instinct to death, so I got really, really good at them.
Heh, I remember in college one time I was playing it at a friend's house, & when I started playing, he was going on about how he didn't like how linear the game was, & you had to always get all the power-ups in a sequental order, & then I watched his jaw drop as I went around the game backwards in some areas(getting the power bombs in the top of Kraid's lair before setting foot in norfair, for example).

Played through backwards...power bombs in the top of Kraid's lair, I don't quite follow. I checked my Nintendo Power strategy guide to see what you're refering to. There are power bombs in Kraid's lair?

I've never had the fondness (love is too strong of a word) for any machine like the Super Nintendo. The closest machine after the SNES had come and gone for me would be the Sega Dreamcast.

In the first main vertical shaft the top section had some rippers floating around but no platforms to hang on to, which was meant to be scaled with the ice beam(though wall-jumping works too, though it's tricky), & above that it lead into another section that connected to Crateria between your ship & the wrecked ship, & that small section had some power bombs in it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ ... 1193358915Oh, & what I mean by playing through backwards, where the game would naturally lead you from key item A to B to C to D, I'd do them out of order.
