Need recommendations for the following type of games:
fighting (SFII, Ninja Gaiden, etc),
flying (plane simulation),
shooting (preferrably more realistic the better)
and anything else that you guys can recommend too. Thanks. Don't mind if the games are older ones either. Thanks!

If you mean the 360, go get FEAR, NOW!

If it is a 360, the realistic shooters I would reccomend would be Call of Duty 4, GRAW 1 & 2, and Rainbow Six. I'm really not a fan of military shooters, but I have my eye on Call of Duty.
For fighting games, the new Virtua Fighter is a can't miss. Dead or Alive 4 is alright, but it can get frustrating at times.
Flying games I cannot comment on. I have none on any system and it is my least favorite genre.
If you're into RPGs, Oblivion is an instant win. I bought my copy the day it was released and still haven't finished it. It is so easy to just lose yourself in the game. I didn't even start the main quest until about 150 hours into the game. With the game of the year edition out now, you get all of the extra content with it instead of having to download it.
The system has some other great shooters that aren't as realistic, but fun anyway. The Halo series, BioShock, Gears of War, and The Orange Box (Half-Life 2) are all great games.

For flying, Blazing Angels 1 and 2 are golden. As is Ace Combat 6.
But if you mean an original Xbox I would highly recommend Crimson Skies. Not all that accurate but one of the most fun flight games I've ever played.

ANyone know if the Xbox 360 has some of the older fighting games like Marvel v. Capcom, SFII, SNK?

Whoops to clarify want an Xbox 360 but I really only need the basic CORE version. Anyone have any recommendations for places that offer it? Thanks!

It's impossible to find a Core system anymore. Your best bet is getting the Arcade package for $279 which comes with a wireless controller, headset and a 256mb memory card. And I think 5 arcade games. Or you can get the Premium system at Best Buy for $350 which has the wireless controller, headset, 20GB hard drive, and two free games (Marvel Ultimate Alliance (which is awesome) and Forza Motorsports 2 (dunno about that one since I've never played it)).
I would honestly say to go for the Premium. You might not care about downloading demo's and such now, but eventually you will. And when that time comes you'll need the Hard Drive. Not to mention that those saves will fill up a memory card extremely quick.

Gears of War a must have on Xbox 360 or PC
Halo 3 great game great story finish

Bioshock is a great game if you like sick games à la Silent Hill
Ninja Gaiden 2 which will coming out until next year, well I hope so
Soul Calibur 4 which will be released soon on Xbox 360
If you are a big fan on Naruto you could count this game also in.
Timeshift is really a cool game even that the game is not to compare on Halo 3 of caurse.
Xbox Live Arcade
Castlevania Symphonie of the Night is just a must have on Xbox 360
Pinball FX is just pure fun
Worms is a great timekiller
Spyglasses Boardgames are great, mostly chess.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is not so my thing but great to have some great Arcade classics on Xbox 360 I just hope that they release the first Guilty Gear, the last Garou Mark the Wolf and Rage of Dragons on the arcadestore.

Call of Duty 4, best and msot realistic shooter yet.
Mass Effect, third person shooter with rpg elements. very cool, made by the kotor guys.
Ace Combat 6 I hear is awesome.
I'd recommend Gears of War but its a bit old and not really that great after a while. Same with Rainbow Six except it's just old.

Thanks for sharing all of these great ideas. I will definitely look into them more.
Does anyone else feel my best bet is to purchase the Arcade package for $279? I don't know much about the differences and it's been over a decade since my last console purchase so I am rusty to say the least.
Also anyone have recommendations on places I should consider for buying the XBOX 360 Arcade package? Thanks!
