I heard that Playstation 3 games could be played on the Playstation 2. Is this 100% true? Because there is one game I really want that's on the PS3.

I would have to say that's 100% false.

OK, but which version of PS3 is the backwards compatable one?

I don't care about super processors and rams and bits and hampsters and all that crap... I just need to know which one, as I only turn my game system on maybe once or twice a year.

Truth be told, I still play my PSX games, and like my PS2, I just wanna upgrade cause sometimes my friends bring crap over, and there is the occasional new game I wanna get right away(looking at you Ratchet and Clank).

That and I don't have shelf space for 2 systems.

This information may be dated but last I heard all versions of the PS3 have backwards compatibility. Only the original versions of the Asian & US PS3 have true hardware backwards compatibility though, the European and later Asian/US PS3s have software powered backward compatibility which has led to problems running some games.

No the 40gb PS3 has NO backwards compatability what so ever, and the software emulated versions are pretty poor as well. Your best off keeping your ps2 around of you want to play ps1 or 2 games.

so get the $499 one then?

If so, you may be right. after all thats two thirds of a Victory Saber, wich is more important to me

Either way I'll want this in time though, I just wanna know which one would best suit my intrests.

So thanks :D

No. Whoever told you that is a liar. You should hurt them.

40 GB PS3 does play PSOne games, I just did it, with Tomb Raider, Mega Man X6, FFVIII, FFIX and Soul Edge.

Yeah, PS3 games on PS2 not happening. Though that would be the first time a next gen game played on an old gen platform since you could play GameBoy Color games on the old GameBoy brick.

I don't see why Sony doesn't come out with a PS3 that has everything(includine backwards compatability hardware) except the harddrive and sell it for like $199-299. B/c if I were to buy a PS3, the first thing I'd to is swap out the little standard harddrive for an off-ther-shelf big one. But their current library, and Blueray, have nothing to offer me. So it's not like I'd buy 1 anyway.

The hard drive is built-in, and even if it wasn't, you can't find a PS3 hard drive over 80-gigs anyway.

A PS3 uses a regular Western Digital Hard Drive. You can remove it extremely easily and replace it with a larger size. You can do the same with the 360 but it's a bit more difficult.

And if you do upgrade your 360 it voids your warrenty, but with PS3 it's totally legit.

Eh. I've torn mine to pieces anyways so it was voided long ago. I looooove my 80gb hard drive.

Why would a game that's made with our standards of technology, pushing the envelope in memory and graphics, be playable on a 5 year old console?

And even if it was, why make a PS3 then? There wouldn't even be PS3 games as they don't need a new console since they're basically just PS2 games since they run on that. People wouldn't spend $500 dollars for a PS3 if they could just play the game on their old PS2.

The PS3 can play PS2 games. Since those are older and easy for a new machine to handle.

Whoever told you PS3 games work on the PS2 had to have been under 8 years old, or Amish, or both.
