Nintendo DS.... thoughts?

I just bought a pink one to give to my wife as a christmas present. My buddy from work gave me an gameboy advance and I picked up a couple games from a used CD/game store, and i loved it. As muched as i loved it, my wife became obssessed with it. I thought about getting a better Advance for her for christmas such as an SP or a Micro, but I eventually decided she'd love a DS so I bought her a pink one as well as Mario Kart and Super Mario 64.
I never had much interest in portables untill I became obssessed with cell phone games. I found I played cell phone games more than my Nintendo Wii. Unfortunatly, unless you just wanna play bowling, tetris, or solitaire, the cell phone sucks as a game system. They have 3D games now, but they probably move at 2 fPS. I'm serious its bad.
I'm probably going to get a DS as well. the same friend of mine has both a PSP and a DS, and while I think the PSP is a cool piece of technology, it just doesn't have the games that interest me as well. I figure I'll get a red and black one. Also found out at Frys they have a Transformer accesory kit. probably pick that up for it as well.
Thoughts? Seriously what do you guys think of DS?

I personally love it, great games, WAY too addicted to it. Especially Zelda Windwaker, and you can play all the GBA games too!

Buy it, it is awesome!
And once you have it, get the Settlers2 DS edition, one of the best games, I swear you won't want to put it down!

I'd still be playing it if my mother figure hadn't swiped it from my desk while I was away...
and forgot where it was...

I also just discovered they made a rumble pack for it. Thoughts on that? How many games acctually support it? Found one for $6 when I was out buying one for my wife. Didn't buy it though.

I have a PSP. It's really good, it's graphics and sound are just a bit better than the DS, but I generally don't have a big number of games at one time.
I've made it very clear to my parents that I want a DS for Christmas, I even picked out a pretty good list of games for it. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, (To get my Dracula fix) NEW Super Mario Bros, (To get my Mario fix) and Pokemon Diamond. (It got some good reviews!)

The DS is an awsome handheld system, although it is a bit easy to lose the game cartridges if you're not careful.

all great choices, but beware: NSMB is super-short. i would also recommend Phantom Hourglass, Advance wars, and (if you can find it) Dawn of Sorrow.

NSMB has some excellent replay value. I love it to bitsies.
Avoid Hunters though. Unless you're a heavy Metroid fan like me, you'll get a little bored.
That, and it causes some serious RSI for your thumbs

Nothing, really. I don't have time to play anything these days.

It's a great portable machine as well as being able to play GBA carts on it I also have a long list of good titles you can get for the DS.

Walmart has the Red/black one on display. Not as impressed with that color scheme as I thought I would be. They didn't do it right. The only part thats actualy red is the very top of it, the rest is black. Kind of dissapointed in it. I think I might go for the all black one instead.
But i do think I'm going to get one. I recently picked up "super mario world" for GBA and its a game I kind of missed out on due to the fact I owned a genesis during the console wars of the 90's and i love it. I've played it many times before but this is the first time I've gotten to sit down and work my way through the whole game. so on that note i gotta try New Super Mario Bros.
Anyway definitly will have one in the family on December 25th. A pink one that is.

and WOO HOO turns out my wife bought one for me too... a red and black one which I like more. got mario 64 DS for it, thats about my only game which is fun but I want something else. After all I played the original version to death back in 97 on my N64. Anyone got a recommended game list?
Anyway I'm really impressed with it, love being able to just lay on my bed and play video games.

Hate to quote myself, but there's something weird here:
All of this post came true.

I've had my DS for a while now and I love it, great wee system, got several games for it. Hnag on, I'll give a small list on the games I've got:
42 All Time Classics - Games like Chess and so on, excellent, worth getting.
Age of Empires 2 - Not bad, not like the old, but still good, PC version. It's more turn based and has less in terms of units and so on. But it's still worth playing.
Animal Crossing - A cute, endearing game that while good, does get somewhat boring if there's no one else to link with. Wish I could, but the few who do own a DS where I live think they're too 'mature' to enjoy such a charming little game.
Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training and More Brain Training - The first one isn't bad, the training can be a little hard. Only just got the 2nd one today, not sure what it's like yet, I'll try it later I guess.
Harvest Moon DS - A good, if glitchy game. It can be a little painful to try and do everything due to the very small visuals. But it's still a delight to play.
Nintendogs - Once you've seen your first puppy in this game jump up and down in front of the screen, you're in love. The puppies are far too cute and although it can be limiting at times, it's still a sweet game.
Meteos - A pretty good, if sometimes overwhelming in terms of noises and what's going on, puzzle game that's as addictive as Tetris and as frustrating as Ninja Gaiden, sometimes. Worth trying
MySims - Just got this game, but I love it already. A very endearing, very charming game that could almost rival Nintendogs for causing cuteness induced comas. Worth playing, and for an EA game that's quite a statement.
Puzzle Quest - In my honest opinion one of the most amazing puzzle/RPG games I've played. It mixes Bejewelled with old style RPG from the late 80s/early 90s and comes out as a refreshing, entertaining game that can be a little hard to put down. Looking forward to another one of these days.
Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure - These are excellent games, yep Sonic and Excellent in one sentence, amazing, huh? These are a great return to when Sonic games were fun and not a mess of bad controls and insane camera. Adventure has you sailing the ocean with ships and doing Old School on the islands, both games can be quite fast and enjoyable. Well worth looking out for, these are true Sonic games.
Tetris DS - It's Tetris, with Nintendo characters, what more is there to say for such a delightful, fun, if somewhat short lived puzzle game? It's Tetris for Primus's sake!
Games I don't own, but have played:
Phoenix Wright - A lawyer game, and it's good. Old fashioned style, with DS tweaks, point and click story based adventure. Very good, with good cases and can be quite gripping. Short, but sweet. Haven't played three, but loved 1 and loving 2.
Transformers the Movie - Nah, i'm just kidding, avoid this pile of c**p. It had potential, but was ruined by half hearted development and very unbalanced gameplay.
Tony.

I got mine a few days before Christmas, I really like it. Only have one game(Naruto: Path of the Ninja) for it, it's a 2d rpg, it's pretty sweet although short.
Anyway, I plan on getting some homebrew stuff for the DS so I can make it to be more than just a gaming system.

I got a DS a few months ago and have gotten more use out of it that I did the two years I owned a PSP. DS's are where it's at.

Well I picked up Phantom Hourglass for it. Love it so far, but man I don't know if I like the idea of traveling through this ocean temple with a bunch of guards I can't attack and only 10 minutes to make it through the whole thing...gotta love the frustrating parts of zelda. Neverthless I enjoy the game more than Twilight Princess on the Wii. Wow twilight princess is cool, its just more of the same for me in terms of zelda. Ocarina of Time repackaged with motion sensitive controls and "wolf" mode.
But I did love wind waker and a link to the past, which phantom hourglass seems to take the best of both and add a cool stylus control to it. I gotta admit I love playing with the stylus. its fun
