I never renamed anyone. I think it makes it easier when I'm discussing the game with other people.

When I play FF1, I usually give the Light Warriors names from DoM, or as close as I can get with a 6-letter limit.

I always wanted to play the 1st three FFs. Do you own the GBA version or the NES one?

I must say I'm honored. Truly.

I tend to not rename anyone. It makes keeping track of characters much easier (as stated by Shadowman). My FF1 names are similarly lacking. At first, I tried to be clever (a black mage named Xman), but the last few times I played I just gave them simple names like wmag, bmag, figt, bblt (NES version only gave 4 letters).

Technically, neither. I used emulators for both. (I can admit that freely now, they're both dead systems)

FF1 was, compared to later games, very bare-bones. It set the basics; airships, fantasy (with some sci-fi, some more than others), and the basic character classes that would be expanded further as the series progressed. However, it had almost no story, hence why it's so easy to adapt. (I'm thinking that, in the distant future, if and when I finished DoM, I MIGHT do FF6, but since it's so story heavy, it'd be very hard to adapt)

FF2 had a very unique level-up system: the more a character used a weapon, shield, or magic, they would become better with it. If a character was hit, but survives, their HP goes up. (Meaning hitting your friends is actually useful) If a character uses a lot of MP, that goes up. It was a bit more story-heavy than FF1, but still not as story-heavy as later games.

And...I have not actually played FF3. :-?

I know much about the 3 of them (FF retrospective on gametrailers.com) And they said that FF2 had a lot of simularities to star wars. That and it touched on 9 which holds a nice place in my heart.

I tend not to rename characters in rpgs, but that is just me. Except for Zelda games. Ever since my ex changed Link to Rectum in OoT, it just kind of stuck with me.

I once did something similar, I named link 'my ass'

Ganon: Now my ass you will fall before my darkness technique! (sp?)

I remember I did something like that in Drift City. I called my character FAP FAP FAP. It was awesome.

Now that I think about it, I have had fun with city names in SimCity, if only for a short session. The newspaper headlines read the following:
"POLLUTION LEVEL IN MYRECTUM reaches record high!"
"Concerned citizen says "If the carcinogen levels in MYRECTUM don't improve soon, I'm just going to have to find somewhere else to live"
