recently i played finalfantasy 2 on my friends psp? but it was totally different from the SNES version i have on my laptop.
It has all different characters and an entirely different storyline.
so please tell me WTF happened

Long story short, what you thought was Final Fantasy 2 on the SNES is actually a port of the Japanese Final Fantasy 4.
Jap gamemakers didn't think RPGs would make it over here in the western world. Because of that, they only released some of the game, but to keep things simple for us, they renamed the games in the order they came out.


Jap US
FF 1 FF1
FF 2
FF 3
FF IV FF2
FF V
FF VI FF3
FF VII FFVII
After this point, the numbers match on both sides.
