Well apparently Ensemble Studios had worked on a Halo MMO at one point in time.
http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/09/rep ... emble.htmlUnfortunately what could have been awesome was canceled with the company closing.
A Flickr account had screenshots from the game itself.

OMG a Halo MMO would suck so hard. It really would be the worst game of all time. Think about. Halo is already bad enough what with all the assholes on Halo 3. How bad would it be if instead of a dozen jackasses, you had to fight hundreds?! Jez, I really would like to start this quest, but this guy keeps sniping me in the head every time I spawn!
Though if you could root out all the assholes, it would be pretty sweet. But what would they do for classes? What would races and sides would there be? And what would the story be?

Well... the crowd couldn't be any worse than WoW's.

OK, isn't it fairly rediculous to judge a game by the people who play it? Hate the playas, not the game.
Anyway, when was this happening before it was shut down?

First on the idea of a Halo MMO:
It could work...in theory. The entire universe of Halo is far more complex than the games woul have you believe. Pick up any of Eric Nylund's Halo books, you'll get the idea. Troops in the books, especially the SPARTAN-IIs, rely heavily on tactical thinking; the books seem more like a Tactical FPS like Rainbow Six, rather than a run-n-gun like Halo. You might wonder why this matters, but anyone who has had an instance messed up because someone had to leave the game for whatever reason knows what I'm thinking.
It'd probably be PvP, Covies vs. UNSC, with a variety of classes, and probably more of a focus on group missions.
Now the pics:
Okay, a SPARTAN without his helmet (The helmet is very essential for the MJOLNIR armor's systems, and more than just protecting the head) wielding energy scimitars? Okay, why not. A stretch, but I can buy it. But a blue-skinned woman making use of Psionic powers? That's way out there. As far as I know, no one's ever used anything like psionics in Halo.

Well, from the look of everything, the screen shots and what not. It would be very similar along the lines of WOW.
Customizable armor, which would explain the Spartan without the helmet, the different brute shots, plasma rifles, etc.
Most likely there would be Normal and PVP servers, so those who don't want to be spawn-raped every time you try to take a quest, won't have to worry.
I would play the game solely for the story and the expansion of the Halo universe.
We need a good Sci-fi mmo. Lord knows Sony can't deliver anything worth while, and Hellgate London is just a pay-version of the subpar game Guild Wars. At least Guild Wars was free to play online, which gave it an excuse to suck.
The game was apparently worked on between 2006-2007, after which it was canceled.
Had they gotten farther in development, we probably would have seen some great things.
As for the psionics, considering you don't have much leeway with classes in something like Halo, gotta take some liberties somewhere.

For one thing, BioWare is working on a Star Wars MMO. Huzzahs are in order there.
As for classes, there's more than plenty. Medic/healer, heavy weapons specialist/nuker or DPS, sniper/archer, MJOLNIR user or Hunter/Tanker, infantry/paladin. That's a decent group right there.

Maybe they could have AIs, like in RvB, for classes. I would like an engineer class that could build stationary guns or robots. Repair and upgrade your vehicals, like go from a normal Hog to a Gauss Hog. Or how about a gear spec? You could craft bubble shields or grav lifts to use. But would that be a class or a profession?

I am so very glad they didn't go ahead with this. First off, the art style is atrocious and doesn't fit with Halo at all. Possibly if you stuck Crash Bandicoot in the suit it would work. Just give me Halo Wars.
