An anonymous religious blogger created a site called AntiSpore and claimed that "Electronic Arts ... biggest attack on Christian values to date will not be tolerated." Even though the site turned out to be a hoax, Spore's creator, Will Wright says that players with either evolution or creationist views would find that Spore could accommodate both since the game's starts with a single creature and doesn't go into details on how that creature got there. Wright also says that a group of militant atheists were even more vocal in the fact that evolution wasn't stressed enough in the final game.

You just can't win, can ya.

I mean, come on, in starting up a game, you thus precipitate the events from which an entire civilisation comes into existence. You ARE God.

Or is that not good enough?

And then athiests comes along and bash it for not being evolution-y enough?

Can anybody tell fiction from reality anymore?

This just proves that extremist Christians are retards, and that extremist Atheists are retards.

In fact anyone who happens to be on the extremist side of a group can be slapped in the category of retard.

I mean hell, at least the extremist Muslims just want to blow us up. If the Extremist Christians had it their way, everyone not a Christian would be put on a mock trial, declared a witch, offer redemption for denouncing everything you believe in, then burned at the stake. Again.

Anyway, I digress, though I can sort of agree with the Atheists on one point when it comes to Spore. Having the evolution of your creature actually matter instead of it just being a point system, would have made the game a lot cooler.

OK, I checked out Antispore. They're never gonna give this mission up, never gonna let it down, never gonna run around and desert it...

Totally fake. Read his quote of Genesis 8:27, it's a really good moral to live by:

”Never truly believe anything you read on the Internet. There will always be cases of Poe’s Law.”

And Poe's Law is...

"Without a blatant display of humour, it is impossible to tell the difference between religious Fundamentalism and a parody thereof."

Very true. It was a hoax, like what was said in the first post.

However how much you want to bet there have been at least a couple of Church sermons naming Spore as the devil's handy work.(other than it being made by EA)

I thought EA was the Devil's handy work, or at least SecuROM.

Hmmm... isn't there a famous quote about publicity? Something about bad being good, blah, blah, blah.

I now have the word "Spore" stuck in my head. Their mission has been accomplished. Love it, hate it, I'm aware that it exists.

Now where's my wallet? :-?

This pisses me off. Spore is a video game. It's not real. Why can't people realize that? Is this the world we're living in when someone can just take something small and make a huge deal about it?

It's like how parents were in an uproar over the Wii Zapper. They claimed that it was teaching kids how to use guns when in reality it was their own fault for buying it for their kids/letting their kids have one.

It's a hoax. I don't think people are getting that. I guess his reading of Genesis including the lyric to "Never gonna give you up" wasn't proof enough. Or when it said you shouldn't believe everything you read.

I'm Surprised spore has had no controversy already. Extremists, Genocide, evolution, SecuRom...
Anything for a religious uproar these days. Can't they accept we have views too? Any Extremst i mean here.
On another note, many of my colony vehicles are Animated characters. They're a bit rubbish, but heres my page

I'm a churchgoing Christian, but not one of those extremist ones. I've never played Spore, but how is a video game supposed to change or threaten how someone lives? (I'm ignoring, of course, those people deeply affected for some other reason, autism or whatever).

I play Resident Evil and MGS. Probably worse than Spore!

It's a hoax. Why aren't people actually reading his posts?

I read the hoax website, and was surprised to see thousands of posts. But it uplifted me to know that no-one I saw agreed with the site. Christians, Aethists and Agnostics all mocked Anti-spore and its foolery. Many post said "I'm buying Spore , thanks for advertising" The funniest thing was how he said we Spore players were "Slaving away making content for Satanic Will Wright" Got news pal, We@re not working, we're having fun. If it was a real guy, I would be very disturbed...

First off, it's two guys.

Second, none of their blog posts are to be taken seriously. They're not religious fundamentalists, they put up that facade to see if anyone would fall for it if they didn't make it a blatant joke.

Read this. And I mean really read it, don't skim over anything. It's the Real About Page, that explains the whole joke that many people still aren't getting.

I know, I did read that, I found it funny and clever, but I was saying I would be disturbed if anyone actually truly believed Spore was Satanic.

I don't know how anyone could. It's actually a decent middle-ground between Creationism and Evolutionism.

Right. I think somewhere in the middle of all the discussions and readings I actually lost sight of that and started remembering it for the joke instead.
