The 2-D shooter thread

I love 2-D shooters like Axelay, Gradius, Lifeforce, Star Solider, R-type, the list goes on. My point is that 2-D shooters are awesome, hard but awesome. So awesome in fact that they deserve their own thread so we can talk about all the great shooters there are. Also feel free to talk about the not so good ones *cough*Zero-wing*cough* . All hail the power-up!

Everyday Shooter and Ikaruga are my favorites.
Everyday Shooter is simply a brilliant game.

Anyone played Axelay? it's freaking hard I can't get past level 3. Dose anybody have any tips?

I just got Super R-Type on my VC and I'm loving it. I'm thinking about getting R-Type 3 is it worth my wii points?
