Gears of War 2. Dammmmmnnnnnn

Started playing Co-Op with my brother tonight and I am once again impressed with how polished these games are. They took the first one, added a few new weapons, expanded the story, and just buffed everything else till it shined. The guns just sound so freaking beefy now. Every time you even fire the pistol it feels like you can (and will occasionally) remove a Locusts head. The gore has been knocked up a notch as well.

Cliff Blezinski said this one was crunchier. He is right in every way.

I tried Gears of War on the PC and I just couldn't get into it. The cover system was neat but I just felt it very unfair to have to waste a clip and a half point blank to kill a single Locust. Not to mention I very much question enemies who can take two sniper shots to the temples and only lose their glasses, much less remain standing.

Sigh... I can see why others loved the original but I just couldn't be bothered to finish it, especially after a glitch caused me to lose my save games.

If you're hitting them in the head with a sniper and they aren't dying, you aren't hitting them in the head. Sniper rounds always (ALWAYS) cause the head to go CRUNCH and splatter everywhere. And a normal Drone on normal difficulty takes 12 bullets to put down if you're aiming for the chest area and 5 if you hit the head with the Lancer.

Granted the PC version is known for it's lagging, messed up hitboxes and loss of save data. The game is definitely meant to be played on a 360 over the PC.

I went ahead immediately with the difficulty set to Hardcore. Drones are taken down with a single sniper round to the head, but I've started fighting the Prophets (if that's what they're called, kinda look like General Scourge), and they take a couple of head shots to put down. I imagine it's more difficult to do so on Insane, where they will take more damage before they die, but that's just the nature of the game I suppose.

Where as with Halo 3 on Legendary, the enemies are 'smarter' and there are much, much more of them to fight at any given time, everyone goes down with a well-placed headshot, the exception most notably being a Chieftan, who employs armor and energy shields.

So I guess I'm saying that, at least in my experience, with Gears, the hardest difficulty simply allows ememies to take more damage, and not necessarily mitigated properly or how you may be used to in other vidoes, i.e. headshots.... and many of them (ala General Raam). :)
