The "official" (?) World of Warcraft thread

I was poking around the Video Game Forum and was surprised there wasn't a WoW thread (given the relative size of the game). So I thought I'd start one for folks to talk in, recruit, find help, etc.

Personally I'm on the Mok'Nathal server (alliance side). With a wife and kid I only play once a week, usually Thursday. I'm just questing to 80 atm and enjoying the new WotLK content. If anyone needs a hand just pst me in-game and say you're from seibertron - my main's name is "Bailen".

-I.P.

My main is a night elf rogue on the Korialstrasz server. I just got to 80 yesterday.

Well, I started playing wow again, got the info to play on a private server, so now I get to play for free which is awesome.

Started leveling a Tauren shaman, got him currently to 51, only been playing for about 2 days total. It's awesome.

a private server is just what it sounds like. A server the game is run from that has nothing to do with blizzard. Thus, free.

10x the xp, 9x the drops and 12x the money drops.

it's some of the most fun I've had playing wow in a long time.

Yep that's what I figured - I don't think Blizzard condones those actions though....

Well if they made the game worth paying for still, there wouldn't be a problem.

I originally left because it was the same old crap every day, there was nothing new to be done that was worth paying $15 a month.

In order to even get anywhere farther in raid progression I would have to be online several upon several hours a day doing nothing but instances and continue doing so for months before I could get into the higher instances.

As a casual player, I didn't want to give up life over raid gear. I left for about 6 months, concentrated on school.

Went back to wow when the new talents before WOTLK came out to see if I would buy WOTLK and start playing again.

The server constantly crashed, it stayed down for a good 3 days one of the times.

And I just said, no more. Blizzard can't get their @#$% together server-wise now, it'll be even worse once the expansion hits, and it's not worth it.

So I quit, then found out about the private server about a week ago, and decided to try it out.

Blizzard may not condone it. But I'm having fun on WoW again, for the first time in a long time.

I'll gladly go back when Blizzard makes it worth my while.

How many folks are on a server like that? I would think the population might be sparse.

What server where you on that was crashing? I haven't ever had any trouble with crashes. Back when I was on a crowded PvP server I would sometimes have to wait to get online (which stunk). But I switched servers to play with a buddy at work and don't have wait times anymore....

Did you end up getting WotLK then? There is a lot of neat stuff in there (great area and instance designs). As well as the Death Knights, which are pretty fun.

The population is pretty small, they make up for it by allowing alliance and horde to group together, see the same chat, and use the same AH. So in a raid there'll be both horde and alliance fighting together, which is really cool.

The server I was on was Zul'jin, and no didn't bother getting WOTLK, no point in spending $50 on a game that will be overloaded with people especially with the server instability. Being a death knight just wasn't worth it.

That is pretty cool! I've always been alliance (since that's what my friends are) - so having some orcs and taurens around would be neat!

$50? Must be higher inflation or taxes in Indianna. It's $40 here, and you can find it for $35 if you play your cards right....
