Check this out.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy's genre has been described as "dramatic progressive action" and its graphics will be in three dimensions. The game will reunite characters from other installments of the Final Fantasy series, including a Warrior of Light and Garland from the first game, Cecil Harvey and Kain Highwind from Final Fantasy IV, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, and Zidane Tribal and Kuja from Final Fantasy IX. Chaos will make an appearance as the god of darkness, while a new character, Cosmos, will appear as the goddess of light. Tetsuya Nomura is responsible for the character designs.

I know, Wikipedia isn't the most reliable, but it cited it sources, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, it's a fighting game like Power Stone. Saw a screen shot of it yesterday I believe. I'm trying to find the site where I found it, I know the screen shot was in a Shonen Jump magazine according to what I read.

Edit: Found it on Penny Arcade.

Garland looks frikken sweet. Sephiroth WISHES he was that cool.

He will knock you all down.

Aside from the fact that Garland gets bitch slapped in one fight, then doesn't really become any good until he combines with Chaos.

Urg, now I gotta buy a PSP. Lucky I can get MGS on it too, otherwise it'd be a waste like my DS, DS-6 Games, including DP next month. Yeah. PSP, I have seen atleast 10.

Personally, I want to play as Lich and rot the other characters into zombies and vampires. But that is so not going to happen. :)

That Light Warrior from 1 looks awesome. I don't really get into these kind of games, but I guess I'll make an exception.

And Garland was awesome... I wish he got more screentime.

They haven't shown the LIght Warrior yet. They haven't even said what class it's supposed to be.

The character artwork is of Garland (His battle sprites were way different from the character artwork from the original) and Zidane from FFIX.

That image of the man in the horned helmet looks like the Light Warrior artwork from 1. If you look at the fight scene cap, he is fighting an big armored man with a purple cape (I figure that guy is Garland).

Ehrgeiz Volume 2? Even though I've never played the original, sounds like the same general concept, only cooler. Agh, but it's on the PSP, why couldn't they put it on a console? Maybe if I wait a few months after the release they will, hasnt' stopped them from putting other games on the PS2.

But anyway, this sounds pretty cool. Here's hoping for an unlockable Chocobo or Mog fighter  .

I think you might be right. I always considered the guy in blue armor to be Garland, because A) His sprites look like that on the world map and B) I've never seen any character in the game that looks like that, other than Garland.

And I've also seen a video from Final Fantasy Origins of the Blue Armor Guy slaughtering a dragon and taking a crystal, which didn't really fit in with the game, so I assumed it was about Garland.

If I didn't play FF9 I might of thought Zidane and Kuja were female based on that screenshot. Game looks good for a FF fan like me unfortunately don't have a PSP. Although I'll consider getting one when learn what other characters be in it like Shadow from FF6. Little can beat a ninja and his dog. :P

At the risk of sounding like a Final Fanboy 7, this game reminded me of Ehrgeiz, a then-Square fighting game, which has the FFVII cast as hidden characters. :-?

Haha, let me help yall out a bit.

May 16, 2007 - While last week's announcement of Dissidia Final Fantasy (note the order of the name) was certainly a big surprise, Square Enix didn't really reveal too much about the title. Even after a short trailer at the Square Enix Party, all we could do was make guesses about the battle system.

Enter this week's issue of Famitsu, which provides a first full look at the game.
Believe it or not, they actually managed to put together a storyline for Dissidia in order to explain how all the Final Fantasy heroes and villains got together. It all has to do with the god of balance and harmony, Cosmos, and the god of disorder, Chaos. The eternal war between these two is struck with a slight imbalance, leading to chaos filling the world. All hope lies in 10 warriors brought forth by Cosmos.

The long and the short is, Cosmos has called upon a bunch of Final Fantasy warriors to do battle over a fully 3D battle field. Currently, we know that Warrior of Light (FF1) and Zidan (FF9) will appear in the game. Also appearing (apparently from the Chaos side) are their two greatest rivals, Garland (FF1) and Kuja (FF9). Sephiroth should also be making an appearance, based on what we saw in the Square Enix Party trailer.

As suggested by the storyline, there should be at least 10 heroes in the game. This number does not include characters from the villain side, with character designer and creative director Tetsuya Nomura admitting to Famitsu that the development team is currently simply working on getting as many characters as possible into the game.

The characters will feature in a storyline that players will be able to see by clearing the game's story mode with each one in turn. As this game is being made in celebration of the Final Fantasy series 20th anniversary, one of the hopes of the development staff is that fans will exclaim things like, "I was able to meet that character!".

Considering that this is a fighting game at heart, more important than the storyline is the combat system. Fights revolve around the use of an individual set of special skills to do damage to your rivals. Each character's skills are displayed through a command list on the bottom-left corner, which changes based on distance from your enemy and other special factors. The battle system also includes evasion and jumping, although the controls are said to be simple enough that even players who aren't into action games will be okay.

Players are encouraged to destroy the environments. Destroying pillars and other objects builds up your character's "Brave" meter, which gives you access to new attacks. You also gain an advantage by pounding your opponents, as this causes a special move gauge to build up.

Special moves include the skills that you'd expect to see given the background story of each character. Warrior of Light can transform using a Class Change command. So too can Zidane, making use of a Trance command. Warrior of Light also has an Excalibur command, and when facing off long range, gains access to a "Long Range" attack option.

You'll be able to build up experience through battle, growing stronger as you rise in level. You can also customize your characters with equipment. This should make for some interesting wireless fights against your buddies.

This strange twist of the Final Fantasy series is currently without a release date in Japan. However, as it is a 20th anniversary game, we're expecting to get our hands on it some time this year.

Sweet. FF1 Light Warrior is all I needed to hear. I love that design.

This kind of reminds me of Eternal Champions for the old Sega system.
