Halo meant to be a PS2 game by Rockstar?

I know I can't be the first person to talk about this...

but jesus christ that's weird, I just found out about it today and looked it up on ign.com

I'm really glad Bungie took control and it became an XBOX/PC game instead.

BUT SERIOUSLY...WTF?

and I also saw there was a HALO:DS that was canceled?

What was that all about?

You're reading wrong. Rockstar had nothing to do with it's development. Take-Two was only going to be the production company that would have released the game. Bungie was still the company making the game. It went from Mac exclusive, to Sony exclusive and then finally as a Microsoft exclusive with a Mac port to stop the bitching.

There was also supposed to be a cell phone version of Halo alongside the DS version. Both were scrapped when the company that was supposed to make and release them decided to just sit on it and not develop anything. Microsoft sued the company (which I can't recall the name at the moment) and got back the license rights they had allowed them to have.

So Rockstar had their name attached for no reason?

I'm a little confused

Take-Two is a section of Rockstar (which I believe has been turned into Rockstar East or something). They (Rockstar/Take-Two) were only going to produce the game. Not develop it. It's sort of like Valve Developing and creating Half Life 2, but EA producing it for release on the 360. Or Dr. Pepper making their pop, but having Coca-Cola can and sell it for them.

But still...what would have happened if it was released for the PS2 as an exclusive?

Would XBOX have been as successful?

if halo came out on ps2 i dont think xbox would of made it at all. halo is the only reason why that crappy system is still around...sorry i cant stand the machine..it does have a few good games but ehh...but anyways it took a while for halo to even get popular cuz it was filled with so many bugs like the system and the other launch titles when it first came out.

That company still has the rights to Halo for the mobile version. They are suing Microsoft because Microsoft won't approve any form of the game and has repeatedly ignored any contact made by the company.

Yeah, I agree. XBox would have gone the way of the Dreamcast and the Virtual Boy if it wasn't for Halo.

On the other note, I knew Halo started as an RTS for the Mac, but I didn't know it got bounced by Sony. And while I knew a mobile version was planned, I didn't know a DS version was too. That would have been awesome to be able to drive a warthog and kill covenant on the go.

It would have faltered. But I doubt it would have outright failed. KOTOR really helped sell a lot of consoles as well. And what "bugs" are you talking about? Were they anything along the lines of 20% of PS2's getting disc read errors?

Nightwatcher just burnt your Skittles. (Yeah, I'm bringing it back.)

DOA, KotOR, Ninja Gaiden, Forza Motorsport (A counter to GT4), Star Wars: Republic Commando, The Unreal Championship games and much more were either Xbox Exclusive, or a port from Windows. (Another Microsoft Product)

And never, ever, EVER, have I had a glitch, bug or problem with my Xbox. My PS2, on the other hand, sometimes bugs out on me, and takes a while to start up.
