It was cool when they did it for 9 but I feel like they've wasted the chance to make a new X or a new Maverick Hunter for PSP

Sheep man's a bit odd but that faux box art is bitchin'. protoman just looks kickass in those images.

I will second that notion. If The Shredder was a Robot Master he'd look like Protoman from the box art.

Yeah, X is the series that really needs a new game. I don't care if it's Maverick Hunter X2 or X9, it needs a new game!

I'm still waiting for Capcom to use the ideas I sent them back in '94 for the "Create a Robot Master Contest". Oh well, guess we'll have to deal with the likes of Sheep Man for now.
Anyway, this is still very exciting news; long live 8 bit gaming!

After I read the article in Nintendo Power (last week I think?), I went back and replayed Mega Man 9. It's a lot more fun now that I know to expect some elements of the game to be unfairly cheap.

Honestly, number 9 didn't seem as hard as everyone claimed. Yes, I died, but no more than playing MM2 or 3. And the boss battles are jokes once you find the weaknesses. In fairness, that does pretty much describe Mega Man games as a whole.

I don't think the game is hard if you're willing to use energy tanks or learn the layout of the stages. The game is cheap because a few of the pitfalls required unusually long jumps, and in a handful of areas, the enemies were placed to intentionally frustrate players. There was also that puzzle in the first stage of the Wily castle which required using Rush at specific times.
But you know what they say about opinions.

This is Capcom, when have they ever made a game that doesn't frustrate everyone? They don't know what 'fair' is.

Yeah, MM 9 was frustrating. I got to the Wily Castle and just gave up for a few months, mostly cause I got an X-Box. But last week I finally saddled up and beat the game after reading about MM 10. Good feeling too, cause it kind of recaptured that old Mega Man magic for me. I'll definitely beat the game again sometime.
Also, Nintendo Power mentioned a "third playable character" from the outset. Who could that be, Duo maybe?

Couldn't be Duo. It would have to be reminiscent of the 8-bit era. Maybe Rush will finally get the spotlight. Or Roll?

there's been talk that the third playable char will be Bass, which would be fitting since he does exist during that time, making his 8-bit debut. We've already seen what he would look like in 8-bit if you get to the final fights in MM9.

While I do love Megaman from my childhood, I find that they are too hard now in my old age.

Unrelated to Mega Man 10, today I found a copy of Darkwing Duck with the box and instructions at a independent game store. A friend recommended it to me not to long ago, so I'm hoping it's just as good as the rest of the Mega Man series.

Gah! Spoiler!

(I didn't know that because I haven't beaten it yet - shame on me really)

Came home from work to find out Megaman 10 was released today, which surprised me, I thought it wasn't coming out for another 9 days.
Quick thoughts: I don't think the difficulty is ramped as high as Mega Man 9. The stages are quirky and fun, just as we probably expected (Blade's Man stage is really cool!). I can't comment much on the Robot Masters, though. I took down Sheep Man first, and by sheer luck (pun intended), every subsequent boss I faced was weak against the last boss I fought.
The challenges are now different. There are two different types: ones where you have to complete the game, and ones that are more like mini-games. I haven't checked out the minigame ones yet, but they could add a lot of replay value.

Wow! I had no idea it was coming out today! Where have I been? Good thing I have some unspent Microsoft points.
BTW It Is Him, I just caught your previous post from January about the NES Darkwing Duck game. That's a sweet game. You should also check out Duck Tales and Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers for the NES. Capcom and Disney made some good games back in the day.

I don't think the game is being released on the XBox for another week, but if it's any consolation, the XBox is getting it before the PS3. Capcom is staggering the release like they did with MM9.
But yeah, I totally remember Duck Tales and Chip & Dale. Those were great games, though it's been YEARS since I've last played them.

The third playable character is Bass. Protoman is playable from the start. I bought the game the instant it came out, and have been playing a lot. It's much harder than Megaman 9 (I agree about it being easier than what people claimed). And no, Bass isn't available YET, but I read about it and saw some gameplay pics. It looks like he'll be able to shoot in all directions, which will REALLY help.

From what I've seen (I've found some pics on places like gamespot.com and other cheat code/gaming sites), Bass can shoot in any direction, has the dash ability, and shoots at least 4 shots at a time. I'm not sure what his weaknesses are, but we'll find out soon won't we?

I finally got my hands on the game. I'd say it's easier than Megaman 9 was. Megaman 9 got a bit instant death happy at several parts, had really long levels between check points, and lots of mini bosses. Plus money took longer to save up.
Megaman 10 money comes much easier than 9. Plus all 3 heroes can use the shop, as Protoman couldn't in 9. (and Bass just wasn't playable.)
Character differences...
- Megaman, plays exactly same as he did in 9.(and every other 8 bit game barring the missing slide.) He takes far less damage than Protoman, and is the default character of the game. Why rankings are only counted for using him. He can move and fire which he fires 3 shots at a time of medium damage. He starts with rush Coil, which Rush Jet becomes availible after defeating 4 bosses.
- Protoman, playable from the start, he requires being much more precise when you play. He only fires 2 shots at a time, but he can charge up his shots. Which forces you be much more accurate. He can slide and when you jump he uses his shield to deflect some incoming attacks, but since he can avoid damage in other ways he takes much more damage per a hit. His Coil and Jet items are open from the beginning. They act exactly same as his brother's rush items.
- Bass,(extra character DLC.) he takes about same damage per a hit as Megaman. He can dash forward instead of sliding. Which he fires rapidly up to 4 shots on screen at once in almost any direction. His shots are the weakest per a hit, but he unloads more than quick enough to offset it. He can't move and fire because of this. You have to jump if you want to fire and move at the same time. Tremble merges with him instead of acting as a coil, which is a power up mode, and Jet pack.
I found Bass the easiest to use of the 3 so far. He completely destroys poor sheep man as he can fire upwards and damage him and disable his clouds preventing his attacks.
The weapons I found this time around to be more quirky. The weapons in Megaman 9 were well thought out, and usually had multiple functions. The weapons in 10 seem be more situation, and primarily just for neutering the bosses with them and the minions on the level with the same weakness. Very few were something you'd fire often just because you had them. (such as Laser trident in 9 was a good weapon use any time thru levels.)
If the weapon is super effective on the bosses minions it's probably the right weapon to kill boss with too. The order was pretty easy to guess, as I got 7 of 8 right my first time playing(I picked the wrong weapon for Strike man, I mean what did you assume a giant baseball mascot is weak against heh.) in a row without looking up. Whatever you knee jerk reaction is you'll probably be right.
I am up to Wily stages right now as Megaman which was character I went the furtherest as. I like it well enough so far. If you enjoyed any of the previous games you probably will like this.
