Why is there no Final Fantasy 13 thread? AKA why is this forum so dead?

FF13 is going to drop next week and for the first time, non-Playstation console owners will have a shot at a modern FF game, though early reports show the 360 version to be identifiably inferior.

So what's up? Do we just not have a large group of gamers on these forums? A bunch of Wii owners? Or are you all of into/dedicated to your games that you don't have time to post in this forum?

I'll be posting thoughts/experiences on FF13 as I start my playthrough on Tuesday...on the PS Triple.

I'm currently playing Dragon Age Origins right now. Don't really plan on getting FF13 anytime soon, kinda broke. I think there are more PS3/Xbox360 owners than you think. Maybe they are wrapped up in their own games, or barely have anytime to get on??
DeadMetal - AVP got horrible ratings. If you only wanna get it because it's AVP, then that should be fine.

From all accounts of independent reviewers who got the game early or own the Japanese version(where sales dropped fast), the game is horrible. I wasn't looking forward to it to begin with(something about Sci-Fi Final Fantasy games rubs me the wrong way, plus I haven't liked any "main" FF games since 6), but the reviews are just that extra nail. The controls are bad(Fighting's basically "spam the X Button!"), the story's bad(there's no natural flow, and you get huge gaps that are filled in by some encyclopedia or something you have to check), the game's one long railroaded tunnel(even the "open" field chapter is a featureless plain with radiating linear dungeons), and all the leveling/weapon leveling is like doing spreadsheets(imagine the FFX Sphere grid, but MORE SO). The idea of "feeding" the few weapons each character gets(they're each limited to about 9 for the game) could be neat, if not for the way it's done(with a level cap and need to find certain items to "evolve" the weapon to get past the level cap and allows it to level again after a slight stat decrease). Also, party set up is a chore, as it seems to like wiping the setups every single time you swap in and out characters.

I don't care much for the Predators, I'm just a sucker for the Alien, I'll enjoy sticking my sticky thing into people's heads..... I mean the inner jaw.

Yeah I know what you're talking about, although I love the Pred's shoulder mounted blaster.

Cougler - FF13 is going to be on both systems. Although, yeah I still wished they had back compatibility, I would love to play GTA San Andreas, GTA3 Aspec, etc again. I have heard that in the future, Sony will put up PS2 games to download via PSN. They are having great sucess with PSone classics, I bought a few. You can find some for 5 bucks, but most are 10.

I'm getting it, at some point. I dunno when, maybe on my birthday when I also get War for Cybertron. I don't care about the reviews, because, and you can call me an insane fanboy for this, so far I haven't played a Final Fantasy game I didn't like. (The only three games in the main series I haven't played are 3, 9, and 11)

I played the demo, and you'd be surprised how hard that is. In fact, a good number of my kills when playing as Marines or Predators were against Xenomorphs. Aliens get the benefit of being able to wall-crawl and every enemy is highlighted so you can see them easily, but they have no decent long-range attacks. Marines have motion tracks that will see you coming a mile away (Not literally) and unless you get the drop on one with a Finisher move, a Predator can take a Xenomorph down easily.

So? I'd still be a god damn Xenomorph and that's all I want from this game.

Talk about AvP in this thread is done.

Now, where are you all picking up your pre-orders for FF13? Were there any decent bonuses?

I considered getting this:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/prod ... ode=retail

but, the Shiva bike also comes with Snow and it seems like a bit of a waste to overlap...

I wish I killed Wii's. I actually play the ps3, the Wii has gathered dust since I bought it, but it still runs fine. No doubt there is a correlation there.

Let me know what you think of FF 13, I won't be able to play it until Friday or Saturday. In the mean time maybe I'll get around to finishing 12.

I really wish that I could rename Sazh Chocofro, I didn't see that in any of the trailers. I can't help but laugh everytime I see it.

Played for 7 hours straight today and went back for two more later on.

Very fun game.

I'll go into some non-spoiler detail tomorrow.

So, first impressions.

The cast is relatively cool. You'll like some, dislike others, and very likely just hate Hope. You can see opportunities for any or all of them to develop.

The game is beautiful. If you're not playing HiDef yet, you will be.

The story is fun and quick moving so far. Don't let all this talk of linear complaints discourage you. You have to move the story forward and the game does it while teaching and preparing you for the open world part.

Combat is intense and demanding. You can get by on just pressing X up until Chapter 2, maybe Chapter 3. I recommend practicing the other mechanics though, you will need them by Chapter 4.

Camera is a bit loose, not bad, but I wish sensitivity were adjustable.

Menus are just incredible. You'll see what I mean, but the User Interface is truly beautiful.

I've made it to the end of the first part of Chapter 5, and so far it has been fairly easy with the exception of the Eidolon battles. Odin is pure pain in the ass, and I'm sure the rest of them will be just as difficult, although they would be a pushover if you didn't have to defeat them within a time limit or its instant game over.

I do like how the game kind of forces you to use all or the characters. Yes, Hope is annoying, but he starts to shine in Chapter 5.

My one complaint so far? Way too many save points. At some points, the are save points after as few as one or two battles. Failing to save at each one though can be a kick in the nuts when you run into a boss that wipes you out fast. Granted, you don't usually have that far to go to get back to them, but sometimes it really catches you off gaurd.

Overall, I love the game so far.

The reason for so many save points is ebcause some of those battles can be hectic and if you lose, you're having to start back quite a bit if you didn't save at the nearest one.

I got my copy yesterday, was originally going to get it next week but since my school seems content with making me make up three classes (one a holiday and the other because the teacher was sick  and another because it was snowing and they thought nthe sky was going to fall when nothing iced over.)

I'm a few hours in, not as much as I'd like but due to school.

The save points do start to get farther inbetween the later you get into the game, so I guess I wrote that a little too soon.

Leveling up weapons is interesting.

It's definitely a trial and error process.
