I've been having a problem with my Xbox 360. It seems like every time I play lately, the system freezes up, & when it does there's a quick digital ping & then the screen gets a bunch of srewed up pixels all over it....usually small broken white lines similar to what a NES does when the cartridge isn't connected properly. At first, I thought it might have been a backwards compatibility problem, since I was playing Republic Commando at the time, but it started doing it at other times as well, such during startup. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't know what the problem is, & the system's not making the ring of death....perfectly green.
Edit: Yes it is making the ring of death:particularly the 3 light ring, which IIRC means a general hardware failure.

Your GPU or CPU is getting a hardware error because the heatsink isn't properly cooling it anymore. If it's under warranty call MS and they'll replace it. If it's not you have two choices. Live with it. Or try fixing it yourself....With my help.

Looks like that would be my best option. Tell me what I need to do, my dark master.....

Send it to me and pay me $40....Or you can read this
FAQ if you're even semi competent with electronics.
EDIT: Hmm the site is down. Lemme see if I have a backup of it.

Ok. Check this
link but only attempt it if you know you'll be able to do it. If you screw up you won't even be able to send it to MS and pay them to fix it. But if done right it's a fool proof permanent fix on Microsofts **** up with the X-clamps.

O Nightwatcher, I bid thee aid me with mine XBox 360 problem.
My wife's 360 will only display in black and white on a standard TV connection. However, when connected to a HDTV through component, it is fine.

Check the switch on the end that plugs into the 360. If it's switched to HDTV the singal will be screwy on a standard TV. If that doesn't work, make sure you have the correct red cable plugged in for the audio.

I had already checked those. My Elite works fine with the same cables, just my wife's core doesn't.

Might help if you maybe gimme a list of all the things you've tried. Like this:
Premium 360, Wifes composite cables, HDTV = Good
Core 360, Wifes composite cables, SDTV = Bad
