"Sentinel" Zeta Prime-Autobot protector or power-mad destroyer?

Chapter III of War for Cybertron made me do some serious thinking. The first 90% of the level was epic, but the battle with Zeta Prime made me shake my head. If this guy is the Autobot leader, then why is he so intent on destorying Megatron up front instead of capturing him for trial and later punishment? He seemed power-mad in his little bubble when he attempted to kill Megatron. And before that, the trapped Decepticon scout? He just killed him instead of capturing him and taking him to an Iacon prison! This seems brutal for a leader of the Autobots. Maybe I'm just too used to the heroic and compassionate Optimus Prime (who, by the way, could of kicked Megatron, Soundwave, and Breakdown's asses without some giant machinery). Any thoughts, Seibertronians?

It's sort of addressed later in the autobot section of the campaign, where the council discusses how the primes had fallen, stating that many had gone mad with power and greed. Zeta may be one of those, judging by his, uh, attitude.

Zeta Prime seamed like an asshole to me too while I was playing. He was all like "here I am all powerful! I control the world around you!" and I'm like, "Its not that serious! Sure you can control that one room, but the world?" so, yeah, I say he deserved to die. He even started laughing after Megatron punched a hole through his chest.

That sequence reminded me of one of Primal's confrontation with Megatron in Beast Machines. Beast Machines Megatron even has a line about controlling the space around them that is similar to Zeta's.

A trial? Really? They're not only in the middle of a war, but they're in the middle of a massive battle for the Autobot capital. How are they possibly going to hold a trial? They'd need first to subdue Megatron, who just killed a few hundred Autobots on the way in, then subdue every single Decepticon attacking Iacon, and hope no one breaks Megatron out in the process. Zeta Prime knew the only safe way to deal with Megatron was to kill him then and there. When your city is being invaded, you can't just capture the enemy leader and expect him to stay in his cell while his army is razing your city. You kill that sonuva bitch on sight.

Vote Shadowman as your next Prime, he knows how to get things done.

Zeta's pride got to him. He should have been smart enough the remote the environment from somewhere else. If you are not going to use your real hands to pwn yous enemy, make sure you are a safe distance when you fails to.

And yet, Zeta Prime didn't just kill Megatron by activating all the floor pistons at once. Instead he decided to chase him around the room with relatively predictable attacks, while diatribing about his superiority.

Really, Zeta Prime seemed to be the archetype of the cheesy Bond villain.

Plus, doesn't Megatron say that he 'allowed' ZP to call for help, rather than fake the communique like the Autobots assumed? Can you imagine Optimus calling the other Autobots and saying 'hurry and come rescue me from this enemy stronghold full of troops waiting to kill you'?

This guy was not Prime material.

Although the Omega Key switcheroo was pretty funny.

I honestly think that Zeta Prime is a great autobot protector. He gave his life to protect the key and tried to make sure it was safe. And honestly, how would you feel if one of your fellow brothers (Megatron) was destroying your home world and was gloating about being in control and being the leader. I would kinda get in his face to and say that I have the power.
