Super Smash Bros. Disscussion thread

I can't believe there wasn't one of these already. This is the place for talking about the awesome game sereis that many people love. Super Smash Brothers.

First topic: Should they make a Super Smash Brothers 4? Since they said Melee was going to be the last one, i think our chances are pretty good. And wouldn't it be cool if Optimus and Megatron made an appearence? :D

Anyways, what are your thoughts.

Once the next Gen Nintendo system is created, I`m sure there will be another Super Smash.

Completed most of Brawl, completed everything in Melee and completed everything in N64.

Favorite character has to be Falco.

Doubt Megatron and Optimus Prime would ever make an appearance as they have to be characters owned and licensed by Nintendo.

Well, what about Sonic and Snake? And they could maybe lisence Prime and Megs. What about Master Cheif?

I have one more sticker to get and a couple of the monster trophies from the adventure mode, and I'm 100% done.

I'm surprised that Nintendo haven't done any upgrades for the game yet. Apparently you can download hacks onto an SD card and load them into the game using that. Nintendo could do a download to SD or sell an SD card in the shops with more characters.

Capcom wanted Megaman to appear in the game, but were too late for anything to be agreed, with Sega only just getting Sonic in. Nintendo would have put Megaman in, apparently.

As a wish list, there are a few non-nintendo characters I'd like to see that are at least feasable -

Megaman (Capcom)

Ryu\Ken (Capcom)

Bionic Commando (Capcom). The game mechanic demands use is made of the robotic arm.

Bomberman (Hudson)

Max [Shining Force] (Sega). Y'know Max has been in 4 games, 5 if you count Shining in the Darkness (the default Hero name is Max in Japanese). Not many RPG characters get 4 appearances, yet Max is either ignored or forgotten and never gets cameos.

On the Nintendo side, I'd like to see a Koopa Trooper, complete with Wings, Hammer Throwing, Shell Rolling ect.

My Wishlist:

Master Cheif

Shadow

Raiden

Knuckles

Grey Fox

Optimus Prime

Megatron

Megaman

Simon Beulmont

There. BTW, what could a second Wii be called? The Wii-Wii? Or, maybe the Wii-NE?

This might seem somewhat strange, but I'd like to see Zant as a playable character.

Sonic and Snake were on Nintendo consoles previously. Metal Gear, Metal Gear: Snakes Revenge, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes were all on Nintendo consoles, and apparently Hideo Kojima "begged" for Snake to be in Melee but apparently "begged" too late in development. Sonic has been on Nintendo consoles ever since the Dreamcast died. That's the point, they're third party, but they still have a history with Nintendo. Prime, Megatron, and Master Chief have no such history. (Tie-in games don't count)

That joke stopped being funny in 2007.

I'd actually be down for that.

My wish list:

-More F-Zero characters. I've been saying this since Melee, more freaking F-Zero characters. They've got dozens of them. Pick out a couple so Falcon isn't so lonely.

-Mega Man. Why wasn't he in Brawl? Everyone was expecting him to be.

-I know it's a bit much but Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes. (He'd jack up the age rating of this game even further. And what if the game gets delayed? You wouldn't want this to be Super Smash Bros. Forever, would you?)Bonus points if you understand the reference. Points off if you think it's a reference to Duke Nukem.

-Liquid Snake, because Solid needs a good foil.

-Simon Belmont. Sure, he may not be the most popular Belmont (Richter takes that spot) but he WAS the first. Production wise, at least.

-Terra from Final Fantasy. Because why not.

If we wanna go down the Final Fantasy\Dragon Quest route, we should go to the origins and choose Eldrick from Dragon Quest. More historical significance there. ;)

Also, I thought FFVI was ****, despite actually doing the deed of finishing the game.

:-x ...
I respect... your opinion....

And on the subject of final fantasy, I think terra would be an interesting choice if they could pull it off, but they should balance it with kefka. But by that point we'd be delving way into dissidia territory I think.

I'd second that. Zant was pretty cool. i'd also like to see some other F-Zero guys like Black Shadow or Mr. EAD. Especially Black Shadow.

And i suppose The crappy version of WFC doesn't count for a nintendo console appearence?

Huh, you don't normally hear that kind of thing. 6 is usually the game no one argues about. I don't personally agree with you, but I can see where you're coming from. That's the truth of Final Fantasy, no one agrees about any part of it, ever.

On the other hand, there's two kinds of people in this world: Those who agree that Gilgamesh is awesome, and liars.

JetOptimus23 wrote:And i suppose The crappy version of WFC doesn't count for a nintendo console appearence?

There was no port on Wii. Ever. No game exists with the title "Cybertron Adventures" and you are a bad person for claiming that there is.

And one more thing to the roster: Keep Ike. Much like the supporters of Dwight D. Eisenhower, I like Ike.

I already learned Final Fantasy can't please everyone. Except for Gilgamesh because Gilgamesh is awesome.

Gilgamesh is at his coolest in Final Fantasy IX. Which is also my face in the series.

Nah, his appearance in V, his first appearance, where he had the most face time was his best. "Enough expository banter! Now we fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men! For Gilgamesh...it's morphin' time!" He's also a candidate for Dissidia 012.

I'm now suggesting Gilgamesh for Super Smash Bros. He could have a move where he pulls out a sword to use as an item, and there's a higher chance it'll instead be Excalipoor and not hurt anyone. And Enkidu as an assist trophy!

Midna might also make a viable option for Super Smash Bros, her final smash could easily be the fused shadows.

I miss Mewtwo...

I'd love to play as Ridley or Fawful. Hell, an Assist Trophy with Fawful just blabbering on about anything would be awesome.

Correct me if I'm wrong here since I probably am (I never really used either) but doesn't Lucario have pretty much the exact same moveset and gameplay?

The problem with Ridley being playable in SSB, and I've been saying this for years now, is that he is gigantic. His depiction in Subspace Emissary was actually pretty accurate. They can't make him playable without resizing him, and they can't resize him without making it look weird.

Fawful as an assist trophy, though, is actually a good idea.

If MegaMan is in it (And I'm still surprised he isn't, they said there's be THREE third party characters, and Capcom loves crossovers) add Dr. Wily. He could use a bunch of wacky mad scientist gadgets, and his Final Smash could be a giant robot.

Actually, Lucario is completley different. The only thing he really has in common with Mewtwo is his Aura Sphere, and only the look. His game mechanic is unique also.

Mewtwo has major creep value, and no new character really replaced that. Or, at least not on the same level.

They've drastically upsized Olimar, Kirby (and presumably Meta Knight and King DeDeDe), and several Pokemon, though.
I think there have even been a few cases were Ridley wasn't much larger than Samus than Bowser was to Mario.

Olimar, sure. I don't think Kirby has ever been shown compared to a normal sized human outside of SSB though. A few Pokemon were scaled up a little. But NOT to the extent they'd have to resize Ridley.

I didn't even think about the scaling issues with the Pokemon until just now, because it was very subtle. Pikachu went from a little over a foot high to what? Just a bit shorter than Mario? Ridley being resized would be much more noticeable, especially when you see him as a boss in Brawl.

Noideaforaname wrote:I think there have even been a few cases were Ridley wasn't much larger than Samus than Bowser was to Mario.

There was one case, and that was the original Metroid. And it was retconned in Zero Mission. He's been roughly the same size compared to Samus in every game since Super Metroid.

Kirby's supposed to be only 8 inches tall, and I assume Meta Knight is roughly the same size, while DeDeDe can't be more than a few feet tall.

And Olimar's not even an inch tall! I don't see how blowing him up several dozen times is any better than shrinking Ridley a few times.

I may have been thinking of non-canon stuff, like the opening to Super Smash Bros Melee had Ridley at a smaller size.

You know what's even weirder? It was Super Smash Bros. that gave his supposed height. I don't know if it's been brought up anywhere else, or if it was made up by Super Smash Bros. (Both of which were made by Masahiro Sakurai) and then promptly discarded.

Noideaforaname wrote:And Olimar's not even an inch tall! I don't see how blowing him up several dozen times is any better than shrinking Ridley a few times.

There's a big difference between growing something that's meant to be small and shrinking something that's meant to be big. Ridley is really, really skinny, think about how odd that would look scaled down.

Ridley is awesome, but i must agree with Shadowman on this one. Ridley's spindly, bony body just doesn't work as Samus sized figure. It would just look a bit silly. They were originally going to have Ridley as an assist trophy before they decided to have him in the SSE. His data can still be found by hacking the game.

On your points on Olimar, he's never compared to a normal Human in his games like Ridley is. You could easily imagine him as a normal-sized guy. With kirby it's the same.

I presume shrunken Ridley would look a bit like this:

Eh, I don't think it's "off" looking any more than, say, Mario standing next to Snake.
