Anyone else disappointed with TF on the Wii?

Yeah, bought this game today at 4:30pm, returned it at 7:00pm. First time in my life I ever returned a game the same day I bought it.

First, the camera is absolutely horrible. Whoever thought it was a good idea to control the camera by aiming the wiimote at the screen should be shot. The second you let your arm fall, even just a bit, the camera instantly zooms in on your character and points upward toward the sky. There is a button to reset the camera back to behind your character, but you end up having to hit it every five seconds. Very annoying.

Driving mode is also very sloppy. You'll constantly find yourself ramming into everything on the streets because the cars handle so badly. Also, on many occasions I found myself stuck up against a building or other object while in car mode and I couldn't back up away from it. I had to transform into robot mode, move, and transform back into car mode. Very, very annoying.

The lock on system also seems to be very sloppy. You have to hold the Z button to go into lock on mode, then aim with the wiimote at which enemy you want to lock onto. Sounds cool, but trust me, it doesn't work very efficiently. I often found my character doing melee attacks at nothing but air because I couldn't lock onto the guy standing right besides me.

Collision detection also seems broken, as well. While fighting Baracade on the first chapter, I noticed objects I threw went completely through him without harm. My girlfriend and son were witnesses to that at least a dozen times while I was playing.

The in-game cut scenes also seem very low quality. It almost reminded me of playstation era quality. Not a huge deal, but damn, at least put forth some effort.

Overall, I'd have to give this game maybe a 2 out of 10. It's not fun at all. Frustration will completely suck out any enjoyment that might be possible with this game. I cannot believe a developer like Traveler's Tales, who can make awesome games like Lego Star Wars, could churn out such a piece of crap. Please, please, it you're thinking about buying this game, go rent it first! I wish I had...

Have Travelers Tales made anything else for the Wii yet? I agree that Lego Star Wars was great, but it was for previous generation consoles.
It's all too common a problem with Nintendo's latest devices that teh developers decide them must make crazy use of the new and 'innovative' control methods. It happened with the DS, and it seems to be happening with the Wii.

From the looks of the reviews I've seen so far it seems that the DS version is the only one worth getting.

Actually, they are making Lego Star Wars for the Wii. They also made a Bionicle game on the Wii, as well.

Have yoiu played the Bionicle game? Is it as bad as you think this game is?

I haven't played it, but here are some coments from a Gamespot review:

Even if the camera control wasn't broken—almost to the point of being unplayable—the control translation from a gamepad to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk would be frustrating and cumbersome. Bionicle Heroes uses a rigid auto-aiming system, where your target is selected from the many enemies and Lego constructions littering the screen. Because you're nearly always invincible, the lethal and nonlethal targets are functionally the same, so the auto-aim isn't much of an issue. However, if you are vulnerable, it can be a chore trying to target the enemy that's shooting at you. You're able to strafe right or left and move forward or backward with the Nunchuk's analog stick, and using this in combination with the Wii Remote to shift around the camera, you're able to finagle out a bead on the target and kill it. A more unwieldy system there never was devised, made worse by the fact that the game lends itself quite obviously and naturally to just using the Wii Remote as a sighting reticle.

Surprisingly enough, the obnoxious controls aren't even the most severe problem here. To pan or tilt the camera, you point an onscreen reticle in the direction you want the camera to move.

Sounds like they used the exact same control scheme for Transformers. The Bionicle game was a huge failure. I guess TT didn't learn from their mistakes.

Agreed! However, I find it's a little easier to control the airships in the Decepticon side. But other wise, "Here, here!"

Im gonna hold off on a final verdict for the game until i complete the storyline, but right off i agree with some of the gripes most have with the game. My main gripe is the lock on/pointer camera system that is really annoying. Im going to adapt to it, but it is really something that you shouldnt have to do. Also, so far almost every mission ive played features the race-against-the-clock feature, or something that limits you to staying inside a certain perimiter of action: I HATE TIMED MISSIONS!!!

Still, I like the graphics and cut-scenes allright, and love it just for the fact that we dont get many Transformers video games. So far, I'll say its passable, not good, but passable. It sure beats the hell outta Spider-man3's game(im still pissed about that one), so that pleases me greatly.

Also, now i know kinda what the Autobots are gonna sound like in the movie. Yup, Ironhide is now British. Whatever...

That was another thing I couldn't stand. A timed mission is something for when a bomb, etc. is involved in the level, not getting to some stupid purple looking things floating in the air around the city. How lame and unimaginative...

They didn't use the movie's voice actors for most characters in the game.

As for the game itself, it isn't all that good. I agree. I'm even thinking about returning it, but I'll play it some more before I make my final decision.

That wasn't the point. The point was that they used the exact same control scheme from another game that was a huge failure.

Well you asked for it, you bought it for the Wii, which is undoubtably the worst console ever and all its games suck so why should this be any different.

You should have got the PS2 version if you wanted a last-gen gaming experiance.

Dude, don't diss the Wii. The Wii is awesome. If you owned one, you'd know. Besides, we're talking about THE GAME not THE WII, which pwns the PS3 and 360.

Heh, yeah whatever. If you want a freaking work out when you play games then yeah its great. But if you want actual up to date state of the art gaming and the ability to play online, then the Wii is useless since it is basically just a 6 year old system with a stupid gimmicky controller.

Pwns the PS3 and 360 my ass....And i dont even like the PS3 but i certainly know the Wii doesnt "pwn" ANYTHING this gen, or last.

And to get back on topic, the Wii version sucks even more because of the so called "innovative" controller. Oh the irony.

mmm, who doesn't love the smell of a fan-boi pissing contest in the morning?

Those of us who make enough to own whatever damn system we want, understand that each system out there has a bunch of good games and a bunch of bad games. I'm certainly not going to avoid one because I like another.

At any rate, you're limiting yourself if you don't think that games like Smash Bros Melee aren't going to be off the scale popular and entertaining.

Same thing with whatever Halo release 360 has and whatever jap-o-holic release comes out next for the PS3.

Right now I have a 360 cause it has the games I want when the gets rid of that rediculous price I'll cop one for MGS 4 and FF XIII. when the Wii comes out with a game I want I'll cop that too. EDIT: anyone who doesn't believe in the Wii Check out the Wii exclusive (for now) "No more Heroes"

Oh and im not a fanboy BTW, i just know what is good and what isnt. Ive been on Sony's side for the past 10 years or so, but they screwed everything up with the PS3. Since Nintendo has never done anything that appeals to me, and their endless mario sequels and stupid gimmicks are just that, gimmicks which i hate, Microsoft was the only company left this time around and i dont regret making the jump to MS one bit.

They have the best games, the best hardware, the best online experiance, its not hard to see why.

On Sony's side for the past 10 years... making the jump to MS...
This talk of sides and hate and loyalty is exactly what defines a fanboy.

No, because of certain peoples ignorance around here, i was trying to show that i am not a fanboy because i chose to buy a different system other than a Sony one. If i was a fanboy then i would still have bought that piece of crap that is the PS3 woudlnt i? Sheesh....try to think logically next time before you post.

Lets see, does a fanboy also own a Dreamcast, a gaming pc, and an xbox 360, a PS2 (a broken ps1) and a PSP? I dont think so.

I enjoy games on all formats if they are good, but the wii, as with every other system nintendo has ever come out with, has never offered me anything good, where as every other company (sega, sony, microsoft) has.

Your definitions of a fanboy are incorrect and uninformed.

A fanboy is someone who goes around saying how awesome their console is and how crap every other system is regardless of facts. Have i done this? No.

I have only said that the 360 is the best system for games and online play on the market right now(a fact, if you dont beleive it, go to any large games website and find out for yourself. A little history lesson would help too), spoken what everybody else is thinking about the PS3 (that its a huge disappointment, and the fact that it has no good games) and that the Wii is an underpowered gimmick designed for kids (an opinion, but from a technical standpoint quite a solid fact when you compare its processing power to the likes of real next/current-gen systems.)

I like how im not allowed to express my opinion of the Wii without being called a fanboy. Smells like the typical Nintendo fan defending their beloved system arguement i have heard a million times already. Diss every other system you like, but god help you if you say something remotely bad about the Wii!
