ebay complaints thread

I need a place to vent. Others might likewise benefit from such a forum... so here goes!

I frequently sell on eBay (see my sig), but am by no means a 'professional' - I sell to fund my continued participation in the hobby, and while I would ideally make a profit on everything I sell, I'm willing to take a loss if it means I can funnel those funds into new things.

A couple weeks ago, I sold about 30 items, and made out pretty well - my 3 big ticket items sold for something like $750. But guess what? ALL 3 BUYERS BACKED OUT.

SH Monsterarts Mecha-King Ghidorah - buyer messages me, says they can't pay.

Marvel Legends SDCC 2012 X-Force Set - buyer never pays, won't respond to messages.

Fansproject Menasor Set - things seems OK... the buyer now wants to return because they "don't want it anymore."

That last one got me steamed: I bought this for my cousin but unfortunately he's no longer into collecting transformers.

I'm sorry, but who casually drops $300+ on a highly sought after 3rd Party collector's item for a cousin who may or may not be into the hobby? How can the situation on the ground actually changed so drastically in a single week? The worst thing is that eBay freezes your funds while the return is in process. And then you have to sell the thing all over again. At least the buyer didn't mess with Menasor at all, from what they communicated to me. Super frustrating, though.

Sigh.

Anyone else have stories, or better yet, does anyone want to buy the 3 items above? :P

Yea this sort of stuff happens all the time on eBay. Most of the time it's non paying buyers.. but it's not a big deal I just file a case in 2 days and relist. but for

I would've never let him return it. That is just ridiculous. It's buyer's remorse.

Personally I too have been on EBay for 10+Years made some mistakes yes but these last years EBay has just gotten very unpleasant for me to trade on. The Sellers are in my view worse than the buyers often fake/smashed items arrive. Is it really hard to clean something? with warm soapy water instead of leave "what I hope are mud stains!!" inside the pretender shell? I mean WTF did you do with it take it outside and muddify the inside so it stains just to annoy me!! Took me 10 minutes to clean it out another one had so much dust on a Scorponok figure it had caked it literally.

Some minor buyer complaints only from Brazil,Italy and most of eastern europe also people from singapore can't accept having to accept insurance on ok low priced goods but I don't trust you. I do occasionally make allowances often to my cost.

I get the regular non-payment stuff all the time, but usually not all of my expensive items in one shot. This time it was exceptionally awful.

But yea... I told the buyer I could accept the return with a 10% restocking fee, and that I wouldn't refund the original ship cost. I also challenged them to explain why he would buy such an expensive item for a cousin who's not into the hobby. And how, if he's not a fan, he found my auction in the first place ('Transformers' wasn't in the title).

I'm interested to see if he backs out of the return or not.

You are legally allowed to back out of an auction I have done it a few times mainly due to postage costs which have gone down since EBays P&P charge. Personally I only sell low-level bits/bods occasionally High-priced goods but I'm small time only, might do big time but not in Transformers market is too saturated.

So those people who return items for no reason, why not hold off giving them a good feedback? And, don't they payback for their own shipping?

Btw, I too have a complaint, especially for a Singaporean vendor I encountered. His name is swan hawk. He has 100% rating, too bad all I can do is add an extra comment.

First, puts up an item for sale. Slow in response but responded to my query. I buy the item but PayPal doesn't process it right away because he didn't include the shipping cost.

I had to remind him again to include it. Response time added another 3 days. Sure I eventually get the Fortmax decal sheet. Received in good condition. Well, when I send a feed back (knowing how snobbish (to put it lightly) some of Singaporeans are (don't go about calling me racist as I have worked with Singaporeans in their country already during my stint with their Civil Defence Forces).............HE DOESN'T give one back! When I inquired why, no response at all! Like emailing a brick wall!

Of all my 57 dealings with ebay (1 double crosed me by not delivering after I paid so I got a refund from PayPal)55 have given me 100% (that includes people from Greece, UK, Costa Rica, Hungary, China, HK ( who have also tend to be a little hard to communicate with but were actually very pleasant), Philippines and the USA. The only 1 feedback I didn't get was from that vendor.

55 out of 56 100%? Well, I guess that's the one that got away

Edit: I had a dealing with a Dutch vendor. A complete loose G1 Countdown. Technically, the fig is great for it's age. Labels all vintage and in great condition. Problem? Half of the rocket yellowed. He didn't post the pic of the yellowed part and didn't mention it in the description. I informed the vendor about but still kept the item. Can't recall if he apologized but gave me a 100% feedback #-o

What about shipping to Italy once sold a leader class ROTF Jetfire there and the guy initally paid then claimed item did not arrive and got refunded as I had not put on tracking information. Fatal mistake, I find people in Brazil can be quite rude some or impatient sometimes I had one issue where I sent Blackout helicopter which the buyer claimed didn't arrive but gave him the tracking number and almost immediately it came...

To be fair it can be unfair to penalise countries, personally my biggest issue with EBay is the site itself, it just doesn't look right....
