FAQ:

Q: What's with Prime's windows? Aren't they supposed to be clear?
A: Yes, Optimus Prime's windows are supposed to be clear. This one isn't, and the reason is simple: My copy of SG Prime is a pre-production copy that wasn't meant for public release. If you want to read more about pre-production copies, please refer to this great article on TFWiki. It even mentions problems Hasbro and Funpub faced when Botcon 2008 pre-production samples were hitting ebay.

Q: Could this have actually come from a Botcon set?
A: Probably not. I've asked around, and not one person I've talked to who bought their SG Prime at Botcon 2008 received one with solid windows. This one I bought from an overseas seller either the Sunday of Botcon or the Monday after (I honestly don't remember).

Q: Where is Prime's paperwork? You say you have Grimlock's paperwork, can you take a picture for proof?
A: Because Prime is a pre-production sample, he never came with any. As for Grimlock's paperwork, I have that. Just message me for a photo and I'll send one over of his bio card and instructions. SG Grimlock came from a complete boxed Botcon 2008 set, so he never came with a plastic bag that usually accompanies loose toys.

Q: How rare is your SG Prime? How many of these guys reached the market?
A: Honestly I have no idea. I've seen several recent auctions on ebay for the pre-production SG Primes, but I suspect the sellers were unaware they had a pre-production version and not the one that came with the Botcon set.

Q: How and when did you buy this Shattered Glass Optimus Prime?
A: I bought SG Prime off ebay back in 2008, either the Sunday of Botcon or the Monday after. I was watching ebay listings and noticed that several for Prime were reaching $125. When I saw a BIN for $100 w/ shipping, I jumped on it. Only after I bought it, did I notice that it was coming from overseas. I was bummed at the time because I knew I was contributing to a problem that Hasbro had been pretty vocal about stopping (factory theft), but in the end, there's no way to prove this guy was explicitly stolen, and I didn't knowingly purchase a stolen good when I clicked BIN, though in hindsight I should have checked where Prime was shipping from.

Q: Do you still have records of the purchase?
A: Sadly, no. I usually save receipts for ebay purchases in my inbox, but my e-mail provider connected to my ebay account switched clients for e-mail hosting and I lost every e-mail before May 2008. It totally sucks, I know. So unfortunately I no longer have any record of making the purchase or who I bought it from. But if this is the kind of thing that interests you, I can write up a short letter, saying "I bought this toy at x, I'm the original owner, and now I'm selling it to x." This should help with resale value in the future.

Q: How did you figure out you have a pre-production Optimus Prime?
A: Someone on ebay listed one as a "variant," so I started a thread about it on Seibertron.com here to figure out what was up. Forum member Dead Metal pointed out that it is mostly likely a pre-production sample, so credit goes to him.

Yes, there was a another prototype, likely one of a kind, that was intentionally damaged by someone in the pre-production process. I know there are some photos of it floating around, but I have no idea what happened to it.
