The best way to find cheap Transformers (from any series) that are suitable for a child to play with(and is well below the collector standard) is to go to ebay and type in the toy you are looking for and set your price limit. There are a ton of loose figurines in varying conditions that are pretty cheap. Animated and Generations have gone down in price recently depending on what figure you are looking for and if it's loose it will definitely be a lot cheaper.

You can also look for toys that are being sold on eBay that are being sold for parts only. Unless you are looking for a toy that is still in a box or extremely rare you generally shouldn't have any issue finding a cheap toy for your kid on eBay.
