I can't work out if the use of yellow is inspired or hideous. I need more photos.

Disappointed its not G1 Reissues, though.

That Hot Rod Decco really sucks. Poor Decco for a poor mold.

But I'm still going to pick it up to get wreck gar and scrapheap together in one go, provided the price of admission isn't terrible.

This is pretty underwhelming... [-(

But it's a shame that those 3P Junkion upgrade kits are few and far between these days. Otherwise I might have a reason to snag this set.

ZeroWolf wrote:While this is really a topic for another thread, IDW is Gen 1 redux. A lot of characters started out as their G1 selves but ongoing development changed them (aka something the G1 toon never did).

Don't worry it's not something I enjoy getting into either - it either promotes people to slag IDW off like crazy or to white knight them to the point of absurdity - Personally I just hope that one day someone else can start over who isn't quite so emmo about the whole franchise as IDW seems to be.

But I shouldn't really say that either as then it sounds like I'm being bitchy. I'm not offended by toys based on the comics as such - I just choose to see them as being more in keeping with the behaviours I expect Transformers to have than the ones James Roberts expects them to have. I'm glad for Mr. Roberts he was able to find a publisher for his spin-off fiction but it does not mean I'm prepared to over-write 30 years of history in my own mind just to please him either.

So like Wrestling or Table top RPGs, IDW is something I can say firmly doesn't suit me and I leave it to others to enjoy whatever it is that they enjoy about it while I actively chose to not participate in it.

But as I have enough compartmentalisation ability I don't actually mind at all if the odd toy is based on the current comics - if it please some for that to be the case - it's not especially offending me - as I as I said pay zero attention to what IDW or Hasbro farm to me story wise if it's IDW based.

The only reason I may sound slightly irked about it is that I can't say I approve of Hasbro using IDW bios on their toys - that doesn't make sense to me as the toyline and the comics have so little to do with each other much of the time. Even if the comics are included with some of the toys for some incomprehensible reason.

But to that all I can do is Shrug - it's not like it effects me that much as I usually buy Japanese toy anyway.

Pros: Great way to get 2 Junkions I've been wanting for a more reasonable price than what the after market offers

Cons: It's another "Rodimus&Friends" set. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, just not a high selling point knowing there was the solo release as well as the Battle in Space 2-Pack.

I think it's about time that Protector Armour got a partial recolour as there is now 4 Takara Hotrods (E-Hobby, United, Henkei & Crystal coloured), Funpubs Sideburn, Shattered Rodimus, several KO's (including clear transparent & Smoke Transparent) some Protos including a nice white one and also Wildrider and 3 Hasbro Hot Rodimus releases (battle In space, Classics and the new Platinum) to use with it.

I guess they thought - Hey lets use it before the Titanmaster version comes out.

Forgot to mention in the news post, but check out that awesome new logo they have about the 30th of the movie. It really seems like this year, Hasbro is more about the 30th anniverary of the film while Takara is about 20th anniversary of Beast Wars.

Hot Rod's yellow thighs are due to the thighs being tied to the same sprue as the spoiler. I guess they really wanted a yellow spoiler and didn't feel too bothered by the thighs being yellow as a result.

I wrote it in the article to a link which shows us that the set will be in the 80$ price range. Makes sense, its about 25$ per figure with premium decos.

Sabrblade wrote:The best thing about this set is the long-awaited return of the name "Hot Rod" instead of "Rodimus".

Moreso than this being another example of Hasbro releasing what was once a japan exclusive headsculpt?

There is a silver lining though. Since Classics hotrod is in this set it means that he cannot also be in the Platinum Rodimus vs Galvatron set. So I am even more certain now that it will be G1 reissues with Galvatronbeing in toon accurate colours.

Well, the Scrapheap head's kind of already been used a few times as SG Scrap Iron and TFSS Tarantulas. Sure, this is a Hasbro-original use, but it's still coming after two previous non-Takara uses.

There were a lot of fun ways to deco those figures for this set.

These are not any of them.

Oh well. A least the Junkion mold is one of the best of the past decade, so getting two of them will be worth it for some.

I'll pick up a copy or two of this set, even though the decos come off as really, really lazy. I haven't quite reached my quota of Wreck-Gars and Junkions.

Anyone remember back when Wreck-Gars and Junkions (and a handful of other Generations deluxes) were 6 bucks at TJ Maxx / Marshalls? Those were good times.

I wouldnt call a mld that has a serious breakage issue to be one of the best. I hope that is fixed in this release.

If anyone buys from him/her please be very aware they use the same stock picture for all their auctions for an item, what you see *may* be the quality level of what you get, but very likely not. They also do not list the defects for each individual auction, if they say anything about what is wrong with the item at all.

There is a feedback thread for Lena. It's a mixed bag but as a customer I can say that many times it is in fact company extras and NOT failed QC. Here are the folowing figures that I can give my seal of aproval that have no defect whatsoever compared to the released versions:

MP Megatron
Legends Gelshark
Cloud Shockwave
Gen Tankor
Legends Tankor (bought for 6$ each shipping included!!!!!!!!!!)
Gen Roadbuster
Legends Whirl
Special edition clear gen roller
Universe Motromaster
TF Expo Exclusive MP Sideswipe (the mistake here was the name on the exclusive sticker sheet, but the toy is perfect Woohoo!)

As a fellow customer what I got WERE factory QC rejects, and their customer service leaves much to be desired. Congrats to everyone who was lucky and got good items.

Just keep your fingers crossed if you buy from them.

Ok, who called the use of the RTS Junkion mold? Wait... I did! Didn't expect the upteenth use of Rodimus though. Seriously, he's gonna follow in the footsteps of Prime and the Seekers!

Supposedly TakaraTomy fixed the issue with the handle bars for the United and later releases. I'd still be careful and not move the manually, only use the Automorph.

Easy pass. Those decos look horrible. And what I dont get is why the junkion body decos are so similar to RTS wreck gar. They could have went with a more cartoon accurate deco for wreck gar and new colors for scrapheap.

You know, I really miss knowing and guessing at the upcoming platinums sets last year. By this time last year we already had picture evidence of the Platinum Insecticons and Platinum Coneheads with the following rumourd:

Trypticon
Blaster Perceptor
Triple Changers

The only one we knew of far later were the Generations Dinobots.

As of now w only have photo evidence for the Planet of Junk with the other set rumourd to be Galvatron Vs Rodimus.

BUT, I spu something else here. Can anyone tell me what they see he in the back at the bottom. I cant quite make it out. Is this advertising another set? It just looks like Gen Skywarp to me.

Might be a bit of a stretch calling these premium decos. Hot Rod only has three paint colors and (appears to have) fewer application than the original release. If they really wanted to make him a premium they should have painted his body like the Challenge at Cybertron and Battle in Space sets did. Those sets also went the extra mile to paint the spoiler so he wouldn't have bright yellow legs. This new figure is anything but premium, it's a joke compared to what it could have been.

Meanwhile Wreck-Gar doesn't look much more spectacular than the original. It's a different deco, but not necessarily better or more complex.

I like it. One of the few box sets where I like every figure. Helps that it's two of my fave Classics molds ever. And you get two junkions so you can do the riding thingy. Hot Rod's thighs a lil bright but I don't mind. Yeah, if it popped up in Toys R Us here in the UK I'd likely buy it but it won't cos they just seem keen on stocking almost nothing but RID crud (and some combiner wars stuff for a bit).

I do! That was a PARTY! :KREMZEEK: I scoped most those guys at the Maxx on the cheap.

@Will - I tryed to zoom in on that little photo in Photoshop. what looks like a pic of Gen Leader Skywarp became an 8-bit image of Gen Leader Skywarp.
The image is too small to zoom in on. Sure looks like Skywarp to me. What could it mean?

I'd love to catch Blaster and Perceptor, though. :T

That's a great set, I strongly recomend it! It is the only platinum to not show up in canada, with the rest exclusives at different places.

But that didnt matter because e-bay has LOADS of this set from Taiwan and Hong Kong at a comparable price to what we would pay at retail (and cheaper than you would pay in England I am sure). If you wanted this set, I wouldnt wait till it shows up locally, just check these ones out:

Roddy fortunately has not broken double digits yet. Prime is if I'm not mistaken around 12 uses so far

While the Seeker mold is in the low 30's now?

Anyway, this is a slightly disappointing set.
