Aren't these based on the 86 movie, not the show? The show was wildly all over the place regarding scale. The movie at least kept it in control mostly.

Well, that is a Slag.

Still immensely upset that it is not an AOE/TLK Slug. something something dropped balls etc.

I hope Jolt and Grindor look good when they are revealed.

The Dinobots only briefly appeared in robot mode in the movie, and both times they all looked about the same height in robot mode:

I am happy to finally have pictures of this guy, but I really just don't care about him. I will of course be getting him to go with the collection, but there is nothing special about him and the red head just looks bad.
Fingers crossed we get some real studio series leaks/reveals soon. I am holding out hope that grindor is upscaled and not just a repaint. But with all the budget going into making the G1 dinobots, I don't have much hope for this sadly. Still holding out for a leader class The Fallen and the rest of the movie dinobots also, but we need to please the G1 man-children people first :BANG_HEAD:

"Man-children?" Because you can't have your bayverse guys immediately upon desire? Who's the man-child?

For one thing, I don't think a single "man-child" asked Hasbro to make 86 movie guys in the Studio Series line. As far as I'm concerned, they could have kept tnose bayverse...characters... in their little subline and I'dve ignored them as I have for years. But hey, let's misplace a corporation's decision on a section of the fandom because you can't get a toy you want.

Without whom you wouldn't have anything that came after G1. You're welcome. >:oP

But yes, a leader Fallen is long overdue in SS, as is Galvatron, who will be another voyager.

Yep.

If we’re getting leaks of this now though, hopefully Bayverse stuff isn’t too far behind. Crazy to think that we first got listings for ROTF Bee, Jolt, Grindor, and Sideswipe in JUNE of last year.

That being said though, ROTF Bee’s early release and Dino have made waiting much more bearable!

Slag looks great but I'm slightly bothered that his chest plate isn't the actual triceratops jaw. Kingdom Rhinox does the same thing. I'm decidedly not a fan of fake alt mode kibble on the robot. I for one am happy to let the proportions slide a bit for transformation accuracy.

Nonetheless I've picked up SS86 Hot Rod, Kup, Blurr, Grimlock, and Scourge thus far and I've had to rearrange my shelves a bit to accommodate. I've turned my topmost shelf from all combiners into a movie tribute, which also clears up some room on some lower shelves where the Alicons were hanging out, so win-win. Grimlock will still be on the main shelf because I consider him core G1, he's a worthy replacement for FOC Grimlock who was my placeholder for many years. However, I have no idea what I'll do with the other Dinobots if/when I get them.

I'm loving SS86 for the most part. Hot Rod is truly a mini masterpiece as everyone has said, faux chest or not. Blurr is...... fine. Kup is certainly a Kup. They've never really been top characters for me, but they're important enough to have. Scourge is delightful, I just wish the wings were a bit more dynamic. I actually have two, since after giving up at finding him at retail I ordered online from two different stores and figured I'd see which one came in first. Then I forgot to cancel the Entertainment Earth order when Amazon came first, so two Scourges. I had initially meant to get 3 altogether to have two Sweeps, but with the announcement of the Studio Series Sweeps I'm going to hold off on opening Scourge 2 until I see what the Sweeps look like. Ideally they'll be more or less the same but with a different headsculpt. Shorter facial hair would suit me just fine. Maybe a shade off in color as well. If the difference is too stark, I'll stick with the original plan of 3 Scourges.

Also SS86 Grimlock is amazing. BIG CHONKER of a toy. Wheelie exists too.

I feel a bit of remorse in buying SS Car Shatter on eBay a few months ago only for her to show up in Buzzworthy Bumblebee, that could have saved me $10 for that disappointing mess of a toy, but oh well. I have her, she stays in car mode most of the time while the jet mold represents her in robot form. The opposite holds true for Dropkick. I need B-127 and Starscream to bring my Bee Movie collection up to date still.

It's just a minor detail, but is the Daniel exosuit shown with SS Slag the same as the Spike one currently with Buzzworthy BB?

Nope, the Spike with bee wasn't molded in a siting position. If anything, they retooled the Wheelie that came with Grim.

I think had they were cleaned up slightly once it was clear that they were going to be in a different line, probably while they were still CAD files. So no extra money needed. You keep forgetting that these were designed for WfC first then shunted Iver to the Studio Series line. Some of the movie characters may well appear in what follows WfC as the lines are rumoured to be 50% G1, so as I said earlier, we could get two more dinos in ss86 and then the last in next year's main Generations line.

Anyhow, to reiterate, at least for this first wave of figures no more money was spent on them then they would have had if they remained wfc. All that's changed is smoothing of details.

Maybe yes, maybe no for AoE Galvatron. He could be a leader depending on the "meat" of the guy. If they go simple shellformer like the orginal, he would be voyager all the way. But if they manage to make the shell disappear while being as THICC as Leader DotM Megatron, he would be a leader.

It will depend on the engineering and parts count.

Slag has turned out pretty good, I'll buy one as soon as it's available. I'm still a bit upset that the rest of the Bayverse Dinobots still haven't happened, even an unchanged reissue of TLK Voyager Scorn would be better than nothing.

I wish Slag's gun could go in his mouth to look like a flamethrower and be effect part compatible, but it's an otherwise great looking figure I look forward to getting!

I always remember the dinobots robot modes being basically the same height, so really if they are taking that into consideration first for scale then I think they are doing it the right way.

I just know he was the same size as Optimus in the movie, so they will stick to that scale. It would be great if he was the same size as DoTM Megatron, as his Freightliner truck mode was larger than Prime's truck mode I believe.

Now I want a photo from top down to see how his tail looks without the gun. Hoping the tail looks complete even without the gun. Still not sure why they feel they need to add partly articulated figures rather than additional weapons.

I thought the same thing at first then I looked closer, really Look at his lower jaw and tell me that honestly would have looked better than what we are getting.. What we got is near spot on to the Toon including the red head.

I think I'll skip Slag and wait for Sludge and Swoop. As nice as he looks and as large as he appears to be, I just have no attachment to him to make me pay $50 for him.

Also, since Slag comes with a Daniel figure, we can assume both Snarl and Sludge will come with one. The question is who?

Were they ever paired with a small character, human or not?

It's not that I'm forgetting anything... It's that I can recognize that the figures I listed have clearly been designed with a different aesthetic. I don't really care if timing, budget, or anything else factored into the differences... My point is that there are differences, and it seems to me that these could have been incorporated for other figures such as UM. Not to mention, part of this difference other than "smoothing" is the attention to detail and at least attempted screen accuracy. I'm not seeing this with Magnus. And I have no reason to be bias either way. This is based on pretty objective observation.

I do agree that it seems logical that the last couple Dinobots will end up in another line...
But there is rumor that SS86 will continue into 2022.
Then maybe this could happen:
Leader (Sludge, Snarl, or Swoop)
Voyager Blitzwing
Voyager Blaster
3 Deluxe Insecticons

I don't have any real attachment with any of these characters, but they look to all be incredibly great figures... I get $50 seems steep, especially if you tend to buy almost everything in a line.
But imo these Dinobots are not to be missed.

I can't see either of the last 2 Dinobots being packed with a human character. I mean, Spike is it from the movie, so he may come with one. But the last two may be released in another line, and either way I don't see a small character added in. Who knows, Hastak may be deciding that a leader class figure with a weapon is enough to justify a $50 price tag in the year 2022.

Kidding. But hopefully he's either a huge voyager, or a slightly smaller leader.
When I look at my 35th Anniversary OP next to SS86 Grimlock, and I start envisioning Swoop as short as OP, it just looks odd... And Swoop really shouldn't be that much smaller than the others.

I think he'll be a huge Voyager. The two Dinobots we have are way bigger than any of the current era Leaders, so I'm gonna place my faith in Hasbro on this one.
