When I told my wife they were finally doing a proper Reflector figure she said to grab all three as soon as I saw a reasonable price, and that they wouldn't count against my implicit 'budget' for Transformers. Then they revealed the 3 pack with all the proper accessories, and her response was essentially, "Well, now you can display them in camera mode and in robot mode."

We may come to a disagreement about which trio should be displayed which way, though. She rightly points out that the asymmetrical colors on the Recon team's combined form looks a little odd, and thinks I should just put their accessories on the retail version and display the Recon team in robot mode.

I’m not sold that the attachments will look that good on retail reflector

That said, with laying out the extra bits and kicking the center’s feet out, it adds some character to the camera

I don't know if they will, but I look forward to finding out. I'm just as happy displaying the cartoon-accurate Reflectors with my other Decepticons. Although right now I only have two of the retail Refraktors. I want to see how they look simply combined with Viewfinder before I commit to buying a third retail Refraktor.

I'm very, VERY tempted to double-dip to do just that.

I have some doubts, and you guys might help.
1- Is the voyager class a good bet? Short and long term?
2- Should I wait for american limited editions (like walmart Optimus and Megatron) or these voyager "rusty painted" transformers are ok too?
3- Are the sizes compatible with deluxe and titan class? (just saw an Ultra Magnus Leader class and look a bit bigger than it should, near to Prime)
Thank you!! G1 for Life :BOT: :CON:

Hello and welcome!

1) Voyager is a great bet. It's proven to be a solid class of excellent size and articulation. Detail and paint is good and the weapons are pretty great too. I would probably recommend a deluxe class over a voyager, but voyagers are still really good.

2) The only difference is the paintwork. If you are OK with some extra grays painted on to look like battle damage, the regular release is for you! The only way I could recommend the Walmart exclusive voyagers are if you want cell shading like the 84 cartoon and no battle damage.

3) Yes, Siege was built around scale, so everyone you buy from this line should scale with each other like they did in the original cartoon, give or take a bit of height.

Yeah, I think the problem is that Hasbro/Takara chose to keep Spyglass' robot mode colors correct, so his legs remain silver, clashing with those of Spectro's, which are black. In the original toy, I think Spectro and Spyglass folded in opposite directions (i.e., one bends forward to "touch his toes" while the other bends backwards to do a "bridge pose." The black shins of Spectro are the back of Spyglass' legs, and visa versa. I suppose they could have retooled Spyglass somewhat to use this trick, but then again, they should have retooled Viewfinder's head too, but they didn't. It's even weirder considering they added extra pieces to make the camera mode MORE accurate, but chose the robot mode deco at the expense of the alt mode deco, even though the alt mode is seemingly supposed to be the big selling point of the boxed set.

I thought the selling point was to be as G1 toy accurate as possible so extra accessories for the camera and toy colours for robot modes.

THANK YOU! I'll buy the battle damaged versions anyway, and if someday the limited versions arrive to europe I have always the option to sell these and buy the other ones. But this is more safe :-P
And also thanks for the info about sizes.. that way I can start savings for Astrotrain and Shockwave :-D

Again, I think the added accessories means more to the alt mode than the deco changes mean to the robot modes. So, either the robots all look colored correctly, or the camera mode does. If the emphasis was on the robot modes for G1 toy accuracy, they should have at least given Viewfinder a different head sculpt, but they didn't. So, in sculpt, the robot modes are wrong, but the colors are mostly right. For camera mode, the accessories are right (and then some), but the colors are partially wrong. Either way, a little more resculpting or re-engineering in just a few areas could have made this the greatest G1 toy update in the world, but it's just a good tribute.

I really like how "generic" Cog, Sixgun, Brunt, Crosshairs, and Refraktor look.

I got 4 retail Refraktors on order that I made before the SDCC one was revealed, now that the latter has been revealed the Recon team will be the individuals and the retail ones will be my generic Decepticon Troopers.

Got 5 Prowls, 1 as Prowl and 4 to convert into Autotroopers with the Reprolabel set, already have them at home.

Crosshairs will serve as Bumblebee film inspired generic Autobots with Ironhide as their captain. (And one of them being the actual Crosshairs)

Cog and Sixgun will be the artificial bodies that were constructed for Autobots who wanted to fight but their original forms were too fragile for war, and like Crosshairs an individual will be the actual versions of Cog and Sixgun.

Same with the above for Brunt as my Decepticon Heavy Vehicons, as well as Targetmasters Firedrive and Caliburst.

Hope they come out with a purple Seeker, otherwise I might go with Redwing as my generic Seekers besides an individual actually named Redwing.

Leave this to shapeway and Reprolabels to iron out the remaining details.

Scales are a little bit off for alt modes if you are coming from G1 to Siege (but good old shrink chips or the lack of can be blamed). Robot modes mostly scale but dont be expecting to be able to put a deluxe car in Ultra Magnus alt mode let alone 4 of them.

Been generally avoiding battlemasters after being disappointed with Wave 1, but this seems to match the play value of titan masters.

Personally, I still find the Starscream type combiner torso to still look weird. And Lancer is looks too "unfinished prototype-y" for me to justify the price. Greenlight looks nice though. The combiner as a whole is pretty fine, just wish Elita-1 had a better mold.
