This is really a question of price. If they are too expensive, then they will shelfwarm, guaranteed. Any collector, the public this is geared towards, can get the G1 toys on e-bay. If these happen to be just as expensive, if not more (like with the insecticons) then these will stay in retail until discounted (hence my comment on price being the main factor here). From experience, the encore line never did too well for Takara. An easy example is Encore Fortmax still being in stock at online retailers the last time I checked.

Also, please remember that all the retail aspect mentioned above is only for australia. There is no confirmation of these reissues coming to TRUs in america (aside from the coneheads I think, but event then I am not sure). Of course, Kmart already got their overpriced insecticons.

People keep thinking recasting molds is easy as pie (which it is, you'd just need the Master Copy), but keep in mind, new molds made from scratch cost thousands of dollars (cutting molds is the most expensive part of creating a toy) depending on the materials used and how complicated the overall tooling is (the more intricate the tooling, the more molds that need to be made). Obviously, the more original molds from G1 that can still be used despite their age, the less new molds that have to be newly made, thus lowering production costs.

Funny Megatronus mentioned reissues possibly shelfwarming, because that's what they tend to do. In fact, the Commemorative Series of reissues by Hasbro was canceled because Toys 'R Us no longer wanted to carry the line. The reason? They didn't move fast enough. TakaraTomy isn't immune to that either: Stepper shelfwarmed rather heavily there (despite the whole "rare" monnicker the toy has), and God Ginrai was seriously overproduced.

Reissue are, and always will be, a tricky business with demand, cost of reproducing the toy, and expected sales.

Yes they did. (actually wait, I know they had metal but it may not have been died, will have to check mine out tonight, but "yes" is the safer bet)

I wonder if that could be a factor, in the original dies for die cast are lost or badly damaged. I could see that being a fairly major expense.

Still... (G1 Thoughts G1 Thoughts G1 Thoughts G1 Thoughts )

I dont think Die Cast factors in anywhere but the price. And even then, the last Reissue we got before this new 2015 batch was Platinum Predaking which was about 100$ and was covered in die cast.

Oh, I was thinking of the cost of mold repair/creation for the die cast parts. Sorry about that...

It really depends. If they come out in greater quantities than TRU MP10, it'll be a pain obtaining these. If they show in greater numbers like the recent MP's have been it shouldnt be too bad. After the initial collector snatch-ups that is.

Though one could argue, demand for G1 reissues is probably a lot lower than MP's (to the avid or average collectors)

The Demand will always be lower than MPs simply because them being reissues means the overall supply (including originals) is way higher than that of MPs.

A poster at cybertronphils forum mentioned seeing the Platinum Seeker Set re-issue last January 2015 in HK but didn't post a pic. Checked ebay and other Asian online stores yielded zilch! So anyone can confirm otherwise if they were released? or was he doing a Munchausen?

I havent heard any of that and it was never reported here. The most I would give this story is that it is a misinformation based on the reveal of g1 coneheads reissue.

G1 reissue Platinum Insecticons available for pre-order at Toysrus.ca

As hinted at with the rumours coming out of the Australian Toy Fair, it appears Toysrus will be carrying the Platinum Edition Insecticons 3-Pack, as it is now available for preorder on Toysrus' Canadian site for $109.99 CAD. Also, making this a first for the Toysrus MP and Platinum exclusives, the packaging will be bilingual and able to ship to Quebec! This comes as good news to those who have been speculating whether or not Toys R Us would be carrying this round of Platinum Edition figures. Hopefully this is a sign that they will continue to get the other upcoming releases of the Platinum line, and that they will actually be available in store. This is the post.

gawd.......just need Ramjet and Thrust and my season 2 G1 Decepticons are complete. Also hoping Hasbro doesn't alter Thrust's missiles for safety issues again.

$100 for re-issues of the insecticons?

HAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHAHA

No.

Yeesh, it's bone-headed stuff like this that is making some stores think people don't want Transformers anymore, and stock less. This is way too little for WAY too much money. Some people would totally go for this - IF it was like $40 or $30. But $100? Seriously? These things are NOT gonna sell at that price.

Combiner War figures are moving fast because: A) good figures B) decent price. The insecticon re-issues are neither.

Insecticons? Why do a reissue on them again? It doesn't make sense. Hasbro should have released some reissue figures worth the money. Like, the entire collection of the G1 Dinobots (might as well, the Dinobots have been marketed more faster than a computer virus can spam you with useless advertisements as distractions to hack your personal information) in one pack or Fortress Maximus. I wonder what inspires Hasbro to make such dumb decisions. But who knows, and who cares?

Fortress maximus has just been reissued and is still available. And with these prices, this is the cheapest it would ever get:

As for the Dinobots, the molds are currently lost from Hasbro and Takara.

And we're not going to see a stateside reissue of Fort Max, anyone remember the Drop Test?

Clickity the link above. Consider this "stateside" enough. If there would ever be a Platinum Fortmax at your local TrU, you'd have to pay at least 500$+taxes at the very least I bet.
