Im not liking it. I look forward for a 3rd party add on kit to turn it into a more G1 helicopter.

This HAS to be one of the best retools hasbro has done in a while. I really like the VTOL idea, and how it translates in the dune buggy mode, those giant rear wheels are bad ass.

Wow, this is totally better than that fanmode i managed to cludge out of Springer.....

I didn't think this mold could have made me admire it more than i already do. THis is a fantastic remold and it, like Springer and Blitzwing, will be bought on sight :D

I'm starting to think that Sandstorm was the original mold and Springer's the remold. This is such an extensively changed figure, but you can see where some things seem to fit the visuals and design better. Like this was almost intended.

That's not a diss to Springer. I'm thinking they released Springer first to get sales going.

Either way, however it worked, absolutely impressive figure. Dang.

The fact a detailed artwork appeared on metropoex's box might lend support to your theory that this was the original mould. I'm sure there'll be 3rd party 4 blade rotors but I appreciate the change they made.
The fact 2 out of the 3 triple changers had the same alt moulds irked me as a kid and was probably one of the reasons I never tried too hard to get springer.

At least the decepticons had more variety

Pre-oredered the 3 of them as they went up on BBTS as a group. That price couldnt be beat really for all 3 at 69.

Omg. That vehicle mode would make a nice Armada Cyclonus...
It does need some rotorblades then, though...

Interesting variation. I think I like the VTOL design better than Springer's helicopter mode, but Springer's car mode is cleaner (the giant rear wheels on Sandstorm bug me). Robot modes are a toss-up; Sandstorm seems to have the edge in picked-out detail and texture, but Springer's better visually balanced in terms of mass distribution (Sandstorm's got toothpick legs).

Sandstorm seems to win when it comes to accessories having a place in every mode, though. It's a pity we couldn't get Springer's car mode with Sandstorm's VTOL mode, the rotor assemblies folding up into AA launchers or something instead of giant rear wheels.

Actually, more plasusible would be that the general base of the mold was developed first, and the character specific details were developed on the side at the same time. Think of as the evolution of pretooled heads: one base mold with two main head molds to switch out.

Well, I usually don't like remolds. Its just lazy. You pick up on a already existing mold and give it another colour scheme and maybe a new head and that it. Here you have a new character. NOW pay up!
That's just not right. However, Hasbro did a smart thing on this mold. Besides the new head they reshaped a little the figure giving Sandstorm a more modern look. So he's not an helicopter... But its a VTOL mode.
The only thing I still don't like is the skinny legs on these two figures. Sorry Hasbro but I just don't ;)
Having said this I would give these figures an 8.5 out of 10

I see a lot of retooling there. It looks like just the basic shape is common but a lot of parts were switched out. Either that or they did a hell of a job on the repainting.

*drools* So getting both. Despite the similarities they look distinct, and that's what retooling is supposed to be all about. ;)^

But what about poor out-of-scale-on-his-own Broadside?

Ah well.. it was my first thought when I saw him, lol. Anyways, they both get close to Cyclonus in that mode in my opinion :-?

Damn, that is one badass retool! His legs are a little spindly and the back wheels look a bit comical on the buggy mode, but otherwise, sweet. I will gladly pick this up, and although the VTOL vehicle isn't his original alt-mode, I think the mold fits him quite well. :APPLAUSE:
