Eh. While it is the only two figures I'll probably end up buying from the whole movie line this time around, the most interesting thing about it is the box art. While the chrome does make Optimus look more G1 it doesn't do anything for Grimlock. If I find this and the two figures separately at the same time it'll come down to which ones are cheaper.

What is it with chrome lately? (and wow, they didn't even chrome the parts of the truck that should be chrome)

The box art looks like Optimus just decked Grimlock. Just like the trailer

Yeah, Toys 'R Us is the way to go, other than BBTS.

I really don't understand where their head is at with this chrome. If you look at Prime's robot mode, what are supposed to be his smoke stacks are RED! Not even the same grey they are in truck mode. I don't mind the "cheat" like some might, but at least give a good illusion. Platinum is supposed to be for "the adult collector" and apparently all we want is random chrome on the regular retail stuff? Also, Grimmy's horns are way too big, they look more like bunny ears.

On this version you can see prime has a faceplate. 8)

I think thats a nice touch even though most of the chrome is just there to be there. These figures both look fun though.

Seems they tried to simulate a punch by superimposing 2 different pics together, but the resulting box art looks more like Op gently elbowing Grimmy to get his attention away from whatever's on his left.

I decided to start just enjoying the movies while buying only a few non-Cyberverse toys back with ROTF, and while new Dinobots were destined to be exceptions to that rule, I'm going to be at a loss as to which Grimlock I want until I actually see them in store. So far the only stuff I definitely want is the Evolution packs and Construct-Bots Dino-armor guys (IDR if they had a proper name); 3 months ago, I never would've believed I'd be saying that.

As for the chrome, my collection's suffered enough Transmetal nightmares over the last 8 years or so that I'd just as soon see it all replaced by shiny paint apps. I'll be in the camp waiting for this set to clearance, if I bother with it at all.

Prime looks better than the retail version and overall I do like this mould, but why put the chrome in all the wrong places Hasbro? Lets see if Takara can do better.

The faceplate is what interests me most about this. Otherwise, the chrome application is poorly thought out and Grimlock is a missed opportunity to do a G1-esque deco. If anything this just gives me hope for a Takara version with better paint apps and a faceplate.

these are probably going to cost at least $70-$80 in Canada. So they look BETTER than the retail releases. Quite a few spots on these don't even make sense. Color me interested, but at a reduced price. Also Optimus has a faceplate!

They keep giving Beast Mode Grimlock those stinkin' Rabbit Ears. Drives me nuts.

Anyway, since I really want these too, I may pick this up, but I want to wait and see what Takara Tomy has to offer first.

Strange, you'd think the grill, fuel tanks and bumper would have been the first things they'd chrome. Kind of random.

Face looks better with the plate though. I ordered the regular Hasbro version; would be cool if a 3rd party company made a kit with a couple of alternative heads for it (one with a face plate, a cartoon-accurate face..) And maybe a different gun. I'm in it for the truck mode though. :)

I do not like either figure, I foresee this set sitting around like Platinum Magnus. Pass for me. :CON:

Those molds are really FANTASTIC. But why pay more for the random chrome of the "platimun" edition? Just buy the regular Hasbro ones. They are really worth it.

Don't really get how they can put those pictures on the box and not make the figures movie accurate in a collector's Platinum edition. You don't have to see to kids with bright colors and chrome for a line like this, give us something that makes them worth the price!

Speaking of price, don't expect it to be very reasonable. Sure, the Grimlock vs Bruticus set was a good price and MP Prime wasn't bad either, but Supreme Starscream was way over priced, and Ultra Magnus was double the price of Weaponizer Prime at $60. I'm thinking these will be closer to $70-$80 since Hasbro hates to chrome figures and seems to see it as a premium.

$100 for different decos on the Combaticons and some awful yellow chrome on Grimlock, when individually, the figures cost around $80 together (I'm figuring $20 for Grimlock and $12 for each of the Combaticons). I don't think a bad chrome job and "exclusive" decos justify a $20 premium, personally. I do agree with you about all the other figures, though. :APPLAUSE:

that Optimus needs 0% chrome, instead rusty metal, and no bright colors

that track mode needs 0% chrome, instead rusty metal, flames and no bright colors :BANG_HEAD:

not talking about grimlock yet... :michaelbay: but if the retailers intent this for kids, good luck selling this at collector's price

Am I the only one who isn't a fan of chrome at all? Dunno why, it just looks tacky and reminds me of the cheap toys from the dollar store.

I agree, but compared to the SDCC Combaticons which are the same figures without Grimlock for the same price it's pretty reasonable.

And yes, I hate chrome on Transformers. Mainly because it's often silver chrome paired with gray plastic or gold chrome paired with gold-ish plastic, the difference is too jarring. I actually like the chrome on Beast Wars figures because they usually used the chrome for that one color throughout the figure, not just in random patches.

Meh. Chrome is always welcome as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't splash out money for them (I don't particularly like the Voyager Grimlock, and whilst the Prime looks great, I've got my RID Prime) but if I was bying them I'd prefer the chrome versions.

I wonder if you could add the chrome effect on the standard figures at home with paint?
