According to the Covenant of Primus book, Megatronus of the Thirteen didn't have the "Prime" part of his name and was always just "Megatronus". Though, he's not alone in that regard, as Alpha Trion, Prima, and Liege Maximo didn't have a "Prime" in their names either.

I discovered this as well..... after I made my post. :BANG_HEAD: Whoops.
Either way, there's precedent for this figure to be either The Fallen or the Megatron we know and love. Or a new character altogether, who knows.

New pictures for Robots in Disguise Mega Optimus Prime and Minicons

UK retailer Smyths Toys has posted new pictures for Robots in Disguise Mega Optimus Prime for it's listing. This time, we can see the proposed play pattern which shows minicons attached to Optimus, an idea that comes from the Armada line. The port mechanism is not the same as the older one and thus only the new minicons can interact with the new minicon ports. The listing also includes a list of features, one of which says that this Optimus figure will come with minicon figures (plural), something that was not revealed yet. This Optimus Prime figure is an upscale and redeco/retool of the Hyperchange Optimus figure.

Features:
Figure converts in 3 steps
Robot mode and semi truck mode
Mini-Con figures attach
Suitable for ages 6+
Contents: A figure and mini con figures
Batteries Not Required

Transformers Robots in Disguise Hyperchange Steeljaw sighted at retail

Seibertronian superstar Scotty P has a sighting to share with us:

Just picked up the 3-Step/Hyperchange Hero at a Target in Raleigh, NC. $19.99 as seen in pic.

Scan codes: Bot itself, picture of bot on back has different code that gives rewards, and the two codes on every package (front logo and app ad on back)

If you find him at your local retail outlets, let your fellow fans know in the respective sightings thread.

He looks like something Takara would have coughed up in 1991... Dear god help me... I WANT IT.

Haha, you are not the only one to say/think that. He really does look like one of those late 80s early 90s G1 Takara bots. I think their articulation was slightly better though.

All he needs is a base mode. Those early 90's guys had some poor articulation, what can Prime move- his arms? Seems about the same. Even his legs are a single block! Screw it, I need this guy on my shelves!

According to leaked screenshots (the same ones that confirmed Megatronus in the show) Optimus does upgrade to this form with the same colors (red and black).

The upgrade turns his name into Optimus Supreme (Dear god help us)

I was thinking of that. You are right on the money for trypticon. But Scorponok was surprizingly quite articulated for a G1 toy. He felt the more modern of the bunch.

I have no desire for a non-retro toy with such limited articulation but he reminds me of Star Convoy... I'm also tempted to get him for the horde of minicons... Particularly that scorpion. ..

I dont know if he will come with all of them. It does say that he comes with some in the listing but his price looks awfully cheap for a gigantic figure with all these extras, especially when they are priced at 5$ each at least. I think he might come eith either 2 or the listing itself is an error. If he came with all of these, then what would be the point of selling them individually?

Eecch.... I hope this line does well, simply as a supporter of the franchise. But the RiD line just isn't doing anything for me, any more than the Power Core combiner line, or any of the movie toys.

TFA is the only breakaway line from Classics/Universe/Generations figures that I've liked. I don't see people breaking down doors or hounding retailer websites to get the RiD figures. On the other hand, they can't keep Combiner War figures on the shelves, they're selling so fast.

My area is super over saturated with Combiner Wars stuff. It was spotty at first but now i just see the same stuff all the time.

Ha! Thanks! Though I think there is a more dead on match for star convoy with this following RID Optimus:

Aside from the aesthetic comparions to Starconvoy, this version can interact with other smaller figures and ...happen to be Japan exclusive. That's even more like Star Convoy ;)

Distribution is so much all over the place that I wouldnt use local anecdotal sightings as clear evidence. In my toysrus, there is so damn much of combiner wars but the RID one step stuff is selling out quick. There are no more Hyperchange Optimus figures, they all sold out, and they had a truckload. Here is the entire TF section, with very very few RID figures left.

Also, while the Hasbro figures may still be available online, on Takara's side of things it's completely different. Preorders for the Takara RID figures (called TAV) sell out in less than a day while the preorder Combiner Wars counterparts at the very same discount are still available to preorder after months of being online and available.

Here's an example of when their version of Drift came out. Shajaki gave us this amazing post the day he was available:

S'ok. I was trying to be funny and get across frustration

I saw the pre-order notice on the boards here while I was at work, and thought "meh, I can wait till tonight when I get home from work". BUT NO. They're gone. S'not a big deal though, I'll just snap up HLJ's pre-order whenever it pops up.

Star Convoy, yes. But it's more than just that. He fits neatly in with guys like Sky Garry, Roadfire, Sonic Bomber and all of those bots. So much so that I'd REALLy dig a similar packaging style in order to seal the deal.

I will get this guy. It's amazing what a bit of paint can do to improve this mold.

I just want the gorilla mini-con. And the scorpion. And the other mini-cons too, I guess. Dammit....I will not buy this Prime just for the mini-cons. I won't. Or I probably will. Hasbro did it again.... they packed something I really want with a shelf warmer I have no desire for.... I suddenly realized that I just argued with myself...and lost. Again. Dammit.

It's too bad that we are very likely never going to see modern technology-using, drastically more poseable versions of those classic characters from Takara's late G1 run.

Death to the quote train!

NuclearConvoy wrote:It's too bad that we are very likely never going to see modern technology-using, drastically more poseable versions of those classic characters from Takara's late G1 run.

The current trend is backing away from poseability in favor of... Size? Errrrr.... Something. While that does get us some interesting toys (as is the case with this OP), the blockyness seems less inspired than the later Takara G1 toys. Less inidividual designs and less features to go with with you oversized TF. I can't say I hate what Hasbro is doing, but if we continue down this road... Pimp out those bricks already! Evelators! Mini-companions! Ramps! Bases!

On the other hand, I'd love to see more late G1 updated. Skygarry would be sweet as well as (maybe) a Dai Atlas. He featured in the IDW comics, right? At least we got Blackshadow in mass retail and MP Starsaber.
