So, was anyone here the winner? If so, are you hiring? ;)

Yeah, really. And if I won the auction, and they truly were 1 of a kind, I'd let Ryan borrow them to do a gallery of them. Unless he has some rule about photographing only figures he owns or something like that.

I'm reasonably certain some of the Lucky Draw galleries were borrowed.

26 grand? You could buy a house or a car with that kind of money! Someone obviously either money to burn, or needs to get his priorities straight.

And one could easily repurpose this guy:

I do have a rule about that but I will make exceptions for rarities like the following:

Image

Image

Lucky Draw Unicron was loaned to me from fellow Seibertronian JRFitzpatrick7 and the green Wreckers Ramulus was loaned to me by Glen Hallit and the Hartman brothers.

Rare and unique figures like that are an honor to photograph and I wish more opportunities would come up like that.

I do get a lot of requests from people to send me more-or-less regular retail or convention releases that aren't in the galleries but those I prefer to own in order to photograph. Usually it's not worth shipping and insuring figures back and forth for regular figures but a rare item like a Lucky Draw or an unreleased figure is more than worth it.

I saw those Energon leader prototypes and almost bid - then I read the description. Thought they looked funny and they're missing so many parts, just couldn't do it.

These aren't exactly prototypes of the original toys, rather they were first solicited as Target exclusive repaints, and were supposed to come with a World Smallest Transformer: Convoy for Optimus Prime and Soundwave for Megatron. They were long enough in development to have packaging art made for them, by Dan Khanna.

Is it at all possible the G2 Stunticons were bought by a toy museum or something, rather than a private collector?

I'm looking for the bidding history, and of course the names are partially hidden. I did see some really weird bidding: a jump from $455 to $1500, and one from $18,500 to $26,800 at the very end, plenty of automatic bids.

I smell shenanigans. :-?

That's how eBay works. Nothing fishy with those numbers. Someone bid a max amount of something around $26,800, someone put in more at the last minute which ups the bid to the max amount of the 2nd highest bidder. If you're bidding on an item like this, you aren't bidding a little bit at a time, you are bidding thousands of dollars at a time. I bet the winning bidder put in something around $30k which is what I would have done had I wanted to drop enough money to buy a car.

Instead, he got 4 cars and a tractor-trailer.

Anyway, the colors for the prototype Energon Megatron do look better than the released version, if it were to lose the neon green and yellow, it would be perfect. I love the gray/silver/black/red combo on my Megatrons.

Yeah, I saw your post after hitting SUBMIT. Out of curiosity, how much did your Dino Proto cost you?

As for me, my grail would be Shattered Glass Starscream, without having to pay 500$ for it.

it was actually a long time ago... trying to remember when just makes me feel old lol. it was something like 7-8 years ago now, and i know it was less than 200. i got that and some kinda pre production sample of the packaging card, which dear lord...i planned to frame and still havent.. 7-8 years later lol.

does shattered glass starscream really command that price? jeeze... makes sense though. i follow everything botcon on ebay and until recently (one listing a few days ago) i cant remember the last time i saw one.

Not me, not even a little. The whole point of that figure was to be a combination of G1 Megatron and Galvatron. The head is Megatron's head with Galvatron's "crown" or whatever. I can only really accept that mold in either Megatron white/light gray or Galvatron purple, which we got. Anything else isn't for me.
