I keep glancing at this guy and the same few thoughts keep popping into my head.

It looks like one of those inflatable gorillas on the roof of a dealership to sell used cars.

King Kong.

And, barring it not being a non-transforming mockup, a rubbery/soft plastic skin with a posable skeleton. Not unlike a Barbie doll.

Like dragons said, there do appear to be a few visible joints in the shoulders, hips and neck, and possibly wrists and feet.

With that said, I still can't imagine how it transforms.
I think noideaforaname is onto something with the dark sorcery at work here.

this soon but i hope the masterpiece line will make masterpiece verisons of the japan continuation of g1

My first thought was: we may get MP Beast Wars Megatron before a correctly scaled MP G1 Megatron...

I thought the exact same thing also. Since nothing was announced I figure I take the chance any longer and I will be picking up Apollyon after all.

I did not see this coming. Between this and the recent generations Rattrap and Rhinox we just got half of the first season Maximals.

Masterpiece Beast Wars? MASTERPIECE BEAST WARS?! AS IN MORE THAN JUST PRIMAL???? AND HE LOOKS LIKE HE JUST STEPPED OUT OF THE CARTOON??? Yes, I want him to look like his dodgy 90's cgi animation, because that's Primal. Not some modern fancy looking monkey.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just exploded. Everywhere. Takara. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! This is the only way I can say how this reveal makes me feel:

Now that we're getting Primal. I wonder who else we'll get. I'm hoping they do Megatron and Dinobot at least.

I need to see how Primal transforms now.

All I can say is that that's what he looked like in the show, so that's what the MP should look like.

Yeah, if they ever made a MP Primal that looked more like this hairy thing...

...I'd be significantly less enthused about it than the one looking like this clayish thing:

The Beast Wars cast turned into unrealistic animals, and that's how they should be since that what they looked like.

I'm shocked it's happening based on that same poll. This came in 6th behind Star Saber (released), Micron Legend Convoy, God Ginrai, Dai Atlas, and RiD 2001 Fire Convoy. Must be just due to the Beast Wars 20th anniversary, or maybe the sales of the reissue of the original toy in the Legends line were just off the chain.

Regardless, yeah, I'm thrilled this toy is happening. Really excited. Just re-watched the last third of Beast Wars a couple weekends ago and it's such a good show, and this character was always a standout for me because it didn't feel like Optimus Prime as a gorilla. I always found that Primal was a similar yet totally separate character on non-trivial levels and not just by plot based coincidence.

Now for my usually (I hope) suppressed entitlement to shine through: where's my damn MP Micron Legend Convoy, Takara? You get on that next, yes?

I'd be inclined to believe it's for the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars, myself, since there seems to be a recurring pattern of Takara making a Masterpiece of a good guy leader whenever they want to celebrate something big.

2004: 20th anniversary of the brand - MP-1 Convoy

2009: 25th anniversary of the brand - MP-8 Grimlock and MP-8X King Grimlock

2010: "Welcome to Transformers 2010" campaign - MP-9 Rodimus Convoy (though since it was what the campaign was leading up to, it didn't get released until 2011)

2014: 30th anniversary of the brand - MP-24 Star Saber (though, it didn't get released until 2015, but was heavily promoted in 2014)

2016: 20th anniversary of Beast Wars - MP... Wait a sec.

Do we even know what this thing's ID number and formal name are?

People actually like that thing? It looks like garbage to me. In fairness it may just be a mockup, and the final product might be a lot better, but it looks like bad articulation and an incredibly low level of detail. I wouldn't pay deluxe prices for that thing, let alone masterpiece prices.

It looks 100% accurate to theCG model. That's befitting of a Masterpiece if you ask me.

Now if you think its garbage because you hate the figure AND the model its based on then... I can't help you :P

So... You have one of those "magic computer" that can "enhance" blurry pictures from those CSI type of TV shows?

Wow, lucky you.

To be fair it's probably just a mock up to give folks an idea of what's coming.

That's what I thought immediately. It looks like just a print out of the show model that they were going to use for design reference and/or to simply make sure they got the shape correct.

As for how it looks, I have never owned the Optimus Primal figure (a regret, I know) but they never totally appealed to me, because no matter how much the robot mode head was altered, the beast mode never looked like the design in the show, and it had become fairly iconic. The toy was "realistic" and the shows was... not, for lack of a better word. Therefore this design is absolutely perfect.

As for how it will transform, probably the same way the toy and show model transformed. I always figured, since they were the most accurate and well implemented of the show cast (at the time) that o/p and megatron would get some slight retooling (give megatron a hand, dammit) and then produced, there wouldn't be a need for a whole new mold necessarily.

As for not being amazing to others, well... it's cool, you don't have to like, I won't force you; but non-G1'ers have had precious few figures released for all the non-G1 shows, so keep that in mind the next time something non-G1 is being celebrated.
