Well we did see all the Dinobots in the 86 movie... ;)

Disclaimer: obviously a big flaw here is that they never bothered to put all the live action movie Dinobots in Studio Series...

Yeah, well, we all know that Grimlock is the biggest name.

That and he's also the one who most badly needed an update, since his AoE toys were based on a pre-final design and unlike Scorn he didn't get a new-mold regular toy for TLK.

This is true, though I wasn't aware that they changed his design from the toy (other then colour scheme)

His robot mode in the film is bulkier and more monstrous above the waist, as well as overall broader. The teeth/faux teeth on his chest are somewhat more subtle and don't lead directly to the T. rex head paldrons. Said paldrons are also unmistakably full-on dino heads in the movie, and they sit further out and fully over the shoulders (instead of close to Grimlock's robot neck). The paldrons and the bulk are fairly notable differences.

Alright, apology accepted. :)

Just to be clear: I'm bringing up the Platinum releases since I'm comparing full-Dinobot team to full-Dinobot team and that's the only other one. It's less about comparing deluxe-to-deluxe and more about a fulfillment of expectation in regards to character. And how one representation fills my needs better than another and why. For me Chrome is a part of that. I don't expect retail deluxes to have chrome. But one toy has it and the other doesn't. The toy that has it has a point in it's favor. At least, in my book.

Commenting on their bot modes next to Mirage or makes sense since they would stand next to him or Wheeljack on a shelf along with other Season 1-2 Autobots. So if (say) Sludge looks puny next to them it reflects poorly on him.

Speaking personally I don't know if we'll ever get truly satisfying official Dinos. I'm starting to think Selects will be the only way they can make them.

You'd only get them via Selects as redecos or, if a Takara initiative, a heavy retool of something else. Studio Series is perhaps a better chance (depending on how 86 Grimlock turns out)

Or maybe... Just maybe, next year they sell the Dinobot team at titan class point, no combining gimmick just the five of them with all the plastic the price point affords.

In all fairness the only bad figures from the POTP dinos were Grimlock and Swoop . The other 3 should just be remade into voyager .

What was your problem with Swoop? Haven't heard that much complaining about him, mostly just people bemoaning Grimlock's combiner sockets showing - and from some, his chest being prone to untabbing (kinda like how if his G1 toy's shoulders are too stiff the chest lifts out of place when you try to move the arms).
