I'm waiting on bot images to make my decision. I still haven't bought ROTF Ironhide, so I might get this one. And I'm surprised nobody else has picked up on this. Machine gun? Rifle? Machete? Rambo? :P Not to mention the deco...

WOW! this will be an interesting thread to keep an watchful eye about Jungle Attack Ironhide. Can't wait to see how many people b*tch and moan about how aweful he looks and the list of imperfections can go on and on. Hmmm...say this reminds of another ROTF figure that everyone was to quick to critize before he came out and thats Demolishor!! I know everyone short credited Demmy in the beginning, but im sure when everyone saw him in the store and they proceeded to the check out lane and got him home to open, he was the best thing since sliced bread. So, i say wait for it to hit the shelves and then make your decisions on if he's plastic poo or ass kicking autobot weapons specialist!!

i want to add that out of any of the Ironhides that was release for the Transformers movie line, Off-road ironhide is the best i think...all-spark blue and yellow does it for him....

One more thing, per Hasbro there will be a storyline behind his new paint app and ironhide hunting bludgeon in the jungle..

http://tformers.com/article.php?sid=12042

Jungle Attack Ironhide - Loaded him up with a whole bunch of weapons. The GMC Topkick has white pant splattered across (Zebra-striped camo) his entire body and weapons everywhere. Also planning to have a story connection between an Autobot and Decepticon.

end

Glad I've got premium version from 2007.

I've nothing against this version, but I'd prefer to see other repaints, such as Demolishor and Rampage.

Also, I'd like to see voyager Scrapper, Overload, and possibly a huge HA Grindor with Alice.. Please Hasbro, please.. make me happy!!!!!

Why don't we sign a petition?

I'm all down to see those figures made, but only Alice has her mechanical mouth instead of the alt form human.

Here's the thing, the Ironhide mold is fine, in fact it's great in my opinion. The photo isn't the best quality but I think the details are shown clearly enough for me to say I don't like some of the creative choices made for this version.

The problems for me start with the painted over windshield when the clear windshield in previous versions are better for my aesthetic preference. Premium Ironhide had frosted windshield, though, right? Even so, I like windows that are transparent when possible.

Anyways, moving on, the "zebra stripes" look more like "lightning bolts" and actually seem more like to me someone went along the surface with a knife and scratched the black paint. Honestly, if someone likes that look, cool. I don't care. I just don't care for the poor excuse for a "repaint". I would actually like a repaint where the paint apps look like an actual zebra pattern. However, has there ever existed a jungle where the foliage was composed of black and white plants? Hmm... My first thought when reading about JA Ironhide was that the paint scheme would be that of jumgle camo.

The grey plastic used is really pale and makes the toy look cheaper than it should. I know the parts are used as weapon accessories so they will likely get regular use, therefore painting them may not be the best option as the paint will wear down. However, a different colour of plastic or at least a darker grey would be preferable.

The weapon accessories concept is cool, that and the mold are the main drawing points for me, and I'll still check it out because I want to have one of the movie Ironhide molds. Like I said previously, if the final product has those scratch marks/zebra stripes, I plan on removing them with isopropyl alcohol since there's not a lot of paint to remove.

I also like the Offroad Ironhide repaint. The colours just work especially with the transparent blue windows.

Why is it whenever Hasbro does something really good, they ruin it with a slagging aweful choice of deco?!?! :-x

That said, I'm probably still gonna get him, just for even MORE weapons to give a better looking Ironhide. A transformer crossbow that actually LOOKS LIKE and FIRES LIKE a f'king crossbow instead of gangly out of scale bits or the prongs being part of the projectile? Awesome.

As for why have one? The fact that it IS less likely to damage the area around a fight. This is Ironhide geared up for kicking Decepticon ass in places his OMFG cannons would be a hinderance.

The 'jungle' angle is stupid, though. I'd of called it 'Urban Tracker', angled towards not causing as much destruction to human stuff as what happened in Mission City or Shanghai.

Maybe they'll surprise us when this comes out, and it'll actually be dark green in color, rather than black. That wouldn't be so bad, IMO. The extra add-ons on him should definitely be a darker grey though.

I passed on the original 2007 Voyager Ironhide. IMO, he could have used a little extra color, and he shouldn't have stolen Trailbreaker's color and alt mode. But I did pick up the blue off-road Ironhide, which I like a lot. The ROTF grey version is really bland and boring.

Of course, like many have wished, I would have loved to have seen him come out in red originally. And then we should have gotten a black redeco for Trailbreaker, with a detachable bed-cab that would become a weapon and/or shield of some sort.

Trailbreaker just gets no dang respect.

Oh, and if Ironhide does enter the jungles in search of Bludgeon, he should also be wary of Bonecrusher, who fled into the jungles after the first film. Yeah, he got his face back. :?

Anyhoo...

Big Trailbreaker fan here! You should check out this thread in the Kitbashes, Fanfiction & Artwork board for an excellent custom movie Trailbreaker. It uses RotF Voyager Ratchet, I believe, for the basis of the custom figure.

I think the main reason movie Ironhide is black is because red doesn't film well(according to Bay, which led to the more blue/red movie OP colour scheme). Also, having OP as "the red one" immediately distinguishes the character from the rest of the Autobots. Looking at the 2007 movie Autobot cast, we have each character using a unique colour scheme.

It also hearkens back to Ironhide's Diaclone roots.

Yeah. :) I remember first seeing the Diaclone toys and thinking, "Wow, these are odd colour schemes!". G1 colours are just hardwired into my noggin.

I wonder, does anyone know if that was something intentional by the art director/concept artists on the movie or was it serendipitous? It would be cool if the concept artists were like "Hah, I'll bet this'll piss off the fanboys who don't realize that this colour scheme is more retro than G1.".

At first, I didn't buy that, and I was most likely vocal about it, but now that I see various toy galleries, etc...

Red is probably one of the more difficult colors to capture. Most pictures end up pink, or orange, or too deep a red, or too light a red, etc.

I'd imagine that it's a rather large task to take on, especially in editing.

So if red is more difficult, why is Rampage red in the movie, but his toy is yellow? That makes tons of sense.

I think Bay's take is that if the colour scheme of movie OP was the same as G1 OP, largely red torso with a shade of brighter red, it would be difficult to film well.

I'm no cinematographer but I haven't seen anyone put forth information contrary to Bay's statement that red is more difficult to film. Now to what degree the difficulty is, I have no idea but I believe that's his reason why the movie Optimus Prime character design uses other colours to break up the colour scheme so you don't have the entire torso and arms dominated by red.

That being said, Rampage is red, Demolisher is red, Mudflap is red. In Rampage's case, the colour scheme of the character isn't dominated by red, a lot of it is broken up by mechanical details in other colours. Demolisher and Mudflap are largely red but it's a darker shade in the former's case and there's an orange hue creeping into the latter's case.

This is just my guess so I'd love to hear someone with more film and photography experience put in their 2 cents worth.

Oh no, blame Hasbro for that one. We had seen promo pics of Devastator, and as far as we knew, a yellow Rampage was part of his make up.

But, after seeing the film, we now know that Rampage never had anything to do with Devastator, he was simply one of many, many Constructicons.

Rampage and Devastator are two separate entities.

However, the idea of him being a Devastator piece, helps sell him. (and it worked. I haven't seen a Rampage in a while.) They merely used the name and color scheme to help sell the toy.

But, knowing that we prefer show/movie accurate figures (plus they want to milk us dry), they're releasing a red repaint in one of the next 3-4 waves.

If Bay had any hand in it, it would be that he originally had Rampage as being yellow, and showed the design to Hasbro, and then at the last minute changed him to red. This is entirely possible. However, until I hear otherwise, I'm going to adhere to the Hasbro milking us dry on nostalgia factor.

if you watch closely in the movie, most notably in the egypt battle, you can see that rampage was filmed as yellow. i guess the decision to change him to red was a last minute decision, because you can clearly notice they used crappy CG to add a red filter over him to make him appear to look red instead of yellow. its really poorly done so its easy to notice

.... probably the early concept art had him as yellow, which was sent off to hasbro to produce the toys. but as production in the film went on, someone changed their mind and wanted him as red.... so they used a quick red filter to change it, but the toys were already produced....

There are two Decepticon bulldozer "brothers" in ROTF. The yellow one becomes part of DEVASTATOR (I like capitalizing the names of the gestalts), while the red one (who actually has one line in the film) goes searching for Sam in the town.

If we want to distinguish them by name, we have two choices - Rampage and Skipjack. The latter being the name listed in the credits for ROTF, which was likely an earlier idea for a name.

Now, one could say that the yellow one is obviously Rampage, based on the Hasbro toy release. However, at the same time, the red one in ROTF actually speaks, and there's an actor credited for that one line under the character name Skipjack.

So, this is quite a conundrum if we want to divvy those two names up between the two. I personally haven't been able to decide, since the name "Rampage" is hard-coded in my brain as belonging to a G1 Predacon. (And later a BW Predacon, who I actually believe is the same character as G1 Rampage, but I'm not going to get into my fanfiction ideas here.)

And then there's the fact that my interest is severely stunted by my loathing  of the film. JFTR, I LOVED :D the first movie!

Anyhoo...
