G1 accuracy is pretty much the whole point of the Masterpiece line. They're "masterpiece" versions of the G1 toys. It's pretty much the defining characteristic of the entire line. If this figure doesn't "aspire to G1 accuracy", then there's no point in making it.

The ban on information will soon be lifted....really ? Companies in this hobby have a dumb way of marketing their product. You dont see car companies posting Silloettes on websites and hiding crap for months.

Is this an accurate VW Beetle or the deformed car as per the G1 Minibot?

The fact that it's a Volkswagon Beetle, alone, has most of us over 38 years old or so just about going happynuts in our seats.

I'm a G1 guy...might have only been 3 in 1984 but I knew who Optimus Prime was and had many toys in my younger years. It was great to hear a G1 accurate Bee was coming...this just looks like it will miss the mark.

This figure has been a long time coming. I can tell it's gonna be the best 'Bee toy. The head looks spot on, and I can't wait to see the face and everything else!

Seems like it might be a realistic WV Beetle, or maybe something in between, kind of like Goldbug's alt-mode?

The fact that since they finally got a VW licence, I wish TakaraTomy would just revisit their BT/ALT line just this once :-(

Judging from the size of the wheel covers, they're going for realism here. Pretty bold, given that Volkswagen has thrown a wrench into Binaltech Bumble and Cliff before.

Car makers go to great lengths to hide their cars before they're ready to reveal them to the public. During testing on outdoor tracks, they'll cover the car with random patches of fabric and fake bulges to hide the car's actual lines. They do that because the car magazines and website send photographers to hide in the bushes and try to take photos of them. It's not that different. They like to tease the new product and only reveal it when they want.

That's Bee alright. :) At this point I kind of consider G1 and Bayverse Bees as completely different entities. IDW is his G1 self and TFP is more like Bayverse. Which is to say, I have no problem picking him up. And the essential fact that he's basically going to be a VW Bug like he should be makes this likely the best Bumblebee yet. Bring on the preorders!

judging by the lighted photo... the head is turned backwards so you can't see the sculpt....

Big feet make sense for g1 screen and toy accuracy...

Looks like he will have some back kibble that is not reminiscent of toy or screen, so that is a little unfortunate.

If he comes with a gun, doesn't that seem contrary to the wishes of Volkswagon to not be involved with licensing their vehicles out to companies that would use them for their "War Machine" toys?

:???:

There are a few different possibilities -

1) Volkswagen changed their minds. After all, other cars they own (Audi/Lamborghini) have been featured heavily in TF fiction lately, and while the toys so far were not officially licensed (until MP Lambor and co.), upcoming ones might be. They like money as much as HasTak, I'm sure.

2) TakaraTomy's existing licenses they have for the Tomica line of diecast cars may be good enough in Japan. This doesn't mean Hasbro will have the same luxury, however.

3) The sculpt may be just different enough from the real-world car that they can get away with it. See very many recent TF figures based mostly on real cars but are different enough to not need licensing.

so VW decided to give takara the licence to use the ugly car mode bee had in G1?

funny, since they stated they didn,t want their cars associated with warring robots in the first movie... I guess when they saw the numbers, they had a ''sudden'' change of heart...

anyway I wont get this. if they keep the scale accurate, he'll cost as much as the other masterpeices, but will be smaller... hope they will throw in some accessories to compensate...

It wasn't first movie that the "no war machines" claim originated from. It was back in 2003, with the Binaltech/Alternators line.

I trust TT would deliver a great design. I just hope they counter this onslaught of autobot cars with maybe something like half a dozed green decepticon construction vehicles. :D

They wanna get the 1984 cast done first and foremost. Aside from a new Megatron and MP-11 mold versions of Thundercracker and Skywarp by Takara, they've already finished all the 1984 Decepticons.

Shockwave was a 1985 toy, and Reflector was in 1986 as a mail-away (though, Japan got it as a regular release in 1985).

Cartoon designs, yes, but the original toyline is what dictated all of G1 in the first place.

Splitting hairs, dude. Shockwave was a huge part of Season 1 and Reflector was aboard the Nemesis making them as '84 as you can get. They go by characters on in the cartoon as Grimlock's reissue proves. Shockwave won't happen because it's not theirs to make but nothing's stopping a toon accurate Reflector. Devastator might be too much to ask for though.

Gotta agree, that for us old G1 dogs this is spot on, classic VW bug!

True that in the G1 animation they'd be smaller in bot form, but that was just size morphing. They had to be this big to make a proper front end.

I love it!!
