This is why I need to get sorted on collecting masterpieces...Takara you magnificent people, stop creating so many things I want!

Ahem, I can't wait to see what little goodies he'll come with.

Aw, heck YEAH. I've been waiting a long time for this one! I hope it gets sold stateside by Hasbro at some point like with many of the other Masterpiece figures. Still, it'll be tough. I remember I practically had to wrestle with people to get an MP Soundwave when those turned up in 2013. I can only imagine the throngs that will be pressing to get their hands on an MP Shockwave...

Thank goodness they engineered proper concealment of the trigger groin....

He looks very good. I'm definitely going to buy this, although the original G1 figure was close to perfect himself. There wasn't much to improve on, except making his hips more narrow, hide the trigger in robot mode and improving his legs.

There is the added factor that a gun alt mode is harder than ever to sell in the states. Supposedly, Classics Megatron would not be able to get distribution if he was issued today.

I find that hard to believe, some of the Star Wars nerf stuff that just hit shelves is closer looking to actual gun models than Classics Megatron or any version of Shockwave. That said, I also could believe it, because toy regulations are insanely arbitrary in scope and definition.

I was just going by the wiki, they might be wrong:

Classics Megatron, released in 2006, turns into a Nerf N-Strike Maverick blaster with a bright orange cap on the end of both the scope and the barrel. With Hasbro's ever-more-conservative legal department, even this deco wouldn't be sufficient these days.

Just import it brothers. And pray you don't live in Australia or Canada. Remember MP-05?

Hasbro may go the conservative route internally, or it may be due to stricter local regs in some larger markets which I'm not familiar with. The Federal rule is here. Not fun reading, and I won't armchair attorney it, but I can see Classics Megs being ok with the Feds at least.

No problem. Downshift has connections though, if it makes a difference.

The G1 figure was very faithful to both the comic and cartoon when it came to Shockwave's transformation. I wonder if the MP figure will go the same route, and have the barrel attach and detach from one mode to the other, or if they found some clever way to actually incorporate it into the body. IIRC, the barrel in cannon mode that comes off the toy is actually Shockwave's head in the comic and cartoon. He doesn't have detaching parts.

Also, he kinda looks like a gun, but even on the package the description will (or should) say "cannon." And he's purple. That might make it easier for him to be sold and not have the gun-restriction. Otherwise, if the MP has the detachable barrel like the G1 figure did, they might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone and make the whole thing orange. It'll look really stupid, but at least we'll be able to buy him at TRU!

It's the same height as Ironhide and cost $20 more than Quakewave both of which are deal breakers for me. Quakewave re-preordered.

(Shockwave preordered too just in case.)

What? Which price are you going on, Takara never revealed the MSRP.

@RodimusPrime, in the cartoon Shockwave did have a detachable gun-barrel part during transformation.

For those in the US, is BBTS generally the most inexpensive route? How does it compare to Amiami?

BBTS is about average or a little above average prices. But they are usually the first to begin shipping and ship pretty quickly too. :BOT:

Maybe for you. But some of us dont want to grow old and grey waiting for Hasbro/Takara to get around to our favorite characters, especially the more obscure. And since Im not into MP scale, I find myself buying even more third party stuff. If it wasnt for combiner wars, I wouldnt even be buying official stuff this year.

Other way around: the cartoon and comics were faithful to the toy's transformation. Remember, in the first two years, toy molds first, cartoon and comics later. In Shockwave's case, google "Astro Magnum" :)

And it's completely logical Laserwave will be best the Masterpiece in existence.

No, it isnt. It isnt a HUGE mark up for certain items but if you are on a budget, importing yourself can often be better. Especially on smaller items since the shipping is what usually eats up your savings. For example, The big RID Optimus comes in a big box and makesthat itnernational shipping quite expensive, so it doesnt make him that much cheaper than i fyou buy him from BBTS. BUT the MP cars, Legends Arcee, those come in medium to small boxes and cost only 5$-10$ to ship from japan so that makes you save at least 20%-30% everytime. BBTS is charged taxes on all their imports and have to charge you that back. But you as an individual buyer are exempt from those same taxes (most of the time) when you import it yourself. So based on that alone, you are technically always a winner buy buying directly from a japaese site like HLJ or Amiami as long as it isnt a giant box.

To give you a quick example: Legends Arcee (the takara version of Generations Arcee) costs 30$ PLUS shipping on BBTS.
I was able to import is for 22$ INCLUDING shipping. Thats 30% off and it lets me afford more toys.

There is no reason whatsoever to preorder this toy now at a literally bogus price (Takara has NOT revealed this to be the price). I would wait until we at least know the actual price of the product before making any other decision.

My personal estimate is that it will be the same price as soundwave, meaning 102$ as per the amiami price. With shipping we re looking at no more than 145$. And this is being very conservative, it might be less. MP 10 for instance had a bigger discount than Soundwave.

That trend also happened with Beast Wars, RID and the unicron trilogy. To thepoint where the Cybertron transforming animations were nothing more than toy commercials.
