Prime Wheeljack would sell like crazy if they hadn't finally given us a real Classicsverse Wheeljack. Still a very sweet figure. I'm also digging the Cyberverse figs.

Sorry for resurrecting a thread, but it is Easter and all that.
Joking aside, I was playing with Cyberverse Commander Bulkhead today just for fun (I love all these Prime cyberverse commanders) and I was wondering what the point of the clear platic is. I am happy for the extra effort and all but I don't really understand what it ads to the figure.

It was just a common trait (a sort of psuedo-gimmick) that all the Series 2 Prime Cyberverse Commanders had. Optimus, Bulkhead, Ironhide, Ultra Magnus and the redecos of Optimus and Bulkhead all had blue translucent plastic in their construction, while the Decepticons all had translucent plastic of a variety of non-blue colors:
  • Megatron: Purple
  • Starscream: Red
  • Dreadwing: Yellow
  • Skyquake: Orange
The translucent plastic construction gimmick was later dropped for the Series 3 Beast Hunters Cyberverse Commanders, with any that used Series 2 mold having their translucent plastic replaced with opaque plastic, with the sole exception being Series 3 Unicron Megatron keeping his translucent purple plastic.

If I had to guess as to what the specific purpose, in terms of aesthetics, was for this translucent plastic construction, I'd probably have to think it was to resemble the power of energon coursing through their bodies, as standard energon was colored blue in Aligned media, with the special kinds being in those other colors (e.g. - Dark Energon was purple, the speedy Red Energon was obviously red, etc.).

Actually, IIRC, they all had translucent plastic to interact with the light up features of those really big playsets that came out alongside, like the Optimus Maximus one

I'd completely forgotten about those playsets' light-up features.

The lights of the playset make the translucent plastic glow. Besides that, I don't think there's much. I never knew about these playsets until Optimus Maximus came on sale and stayed there for 6 years
