Megatron has the excuse that his alt-mode was a limiting factor in his robot mode effectiveness. Plus he was designed in mere days.

Why do people bring up that he was designed in less than two weeks like that makes it OK? That makes him rushed garbage! Like it or not he's still an official retail Masterpiece figure and should be judged and compared accordingly. Plus we've seen considerably better and smaller Megatrons from third parties for a while now so the shape of the gun mode really doesn't matter much. Saying it's a "limiting factor" is the same as saying they can't make a better one and they most certainly can (and eventually will).

Not giving him (TT) a free pass but try doing a project yourself with a 2 week deadline. Compare that with a years worth with what was with Star Saber. Same engineer.

Could TT made a better Megatron? Given then and now, of course. But then, the engineers/designers are only human.

But he DIDN'T do the project himself. He designed it himself, but he wasn't the one that set the time tables and pushed an inferior product out the door. Takara could have realized they were being unreasonable and given the project more time, but they didn't. We waited nearly three years for the MP-03 mold to be released after MP-01, there was no need to push Megatron only six months after
Starscream, especially when we wouldn't see the next new mold, Grimlock, for two more years.

Why are we suddenly making excuses?

Not an excuse but more on empathy with the engineer. If you know JP culture, a nail that stands out gets it in the head and put in his "place" by a hammer.

An analogy, Xbox360 was released despite the engineers being wary on how the circuit board used environmental friendly solders, this is said to be the cause of the RROD. They warned the suits but still the corporate slugs had the last say...release the product like yesterday! Even if you want to stand by your idealistic principles, real life politics trumps over the former......as in do you still want a job tomorrow?

I take it you haven't had the "man" from upstairs breathe on your neck to deliver a product like "yesterday"? Corporate, medical or political environments.........they are all the same kimosabe.

You need to choose your battles wisely.

TakaraTomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-27 Ironhide Proto-Type Video Review

A few days ago we showed you some proto-type shots of TakaraTomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-27 Ironhide, and now a video review has surfaced! Freshly Youtube'd by Vamphaery, though unfortunately for us Westerners it's in Chinese. But hey, if a picture is worth a thousand words then a video (in any language) is worth what... at least a thousand and twelve? Perhaps someone out there can help translate, but in the mean time we can enjoy seeing his transformation. See the video below (thanks to Seibertronian Mr O!) and stay tuned to Seibertron.com: home for the best Galleries and Conversation around!

Don't ask me why, but that not great quality video in a language I don't know, FOR SOME reason makes me feel good about this figure.

Unless some design flaws show up, I feel this will be just like BB. Once in hand, will end up looking/playing awesome.

If there is a god, there must be a demon, if there is the chojin, there too must be kyu.......... ;) Every individual has it role in the cosmos

Like Tracks/Roadrage mold, aside from the neck locking or lack of it and the backpack wings clearance, UM with no waist twisty/central robot etc etc, no MP is almost perfect.

Hooray! Ironhide and Ratchet are gonna be great :-D

Also, 60 frames per second (think of it as 60 pictures per second) x 60 seconds per minute x 25 minutes and 2 seconds x 1000 words per picture = 90,120,000 words!!! :michaelbay: :michaelbay:

God, that hip-kibble is atrocious....I wouldn't mind, but the design team can do so much better.

Is Ironhide slightly mistransformed in these pictures. It looks like his lower bumper is pushed in more than the stock art shows, and I think it looks better!

I'm going to get this figure eventually, but my wish is that the bumper/windshield had been two pieces so that it could be somewhat flat on his chest and cover up the diaper a little, so it would be less obvious, which I think the mistransformation almost pulls off.

As much as I'd like to have Ironhide & Ratchet, I just can't accept these molds as definitive versions. A simple Google search for "3rd party Ratchet/Ironhide" shows some far superior designs. Has/Tak have got to seriously question their standards when 3rd party companies start making better versions of their own characters.

Maybe some people don't mind this design and would rather have an official one and support the company that created those characters instead of buying from someone whose infringing on another's intellectual property and slapping a reprolabel symbol on it after word.

That's basically why i'm getting this one. I'm not against 3rd party stuff, but in the case of Masterpieces i will always buy official figures when i have the choice.

Ditto!

If given the choice between tofu steak and Kobe/Angus steak, I'd take the latter anytime!

The diaper doesn't bother me. Though his arms are a bit short and the hip kibble bothers me more than it should. I hope you can pop off the hip flaps. I'll get him. I think when compared to 3rd party companies he is better than most. And it looks like Takara is learning from the 3rd parties by adding a ton of extras which is awesome.
