Interesting tidbit: Amazon lists this guy as "Skyfire".

That's his preliminary name, but as we all know, it's been out of Hasbro's reach since 2002/2003. Ask Energon Skyblast, and blame Max Steel

That makes me think less of both Hasbro and of the character both - as I thought for some desperate moment they'd done something "Original" and made a new Character flier Autobot. and not just looked at a Character list from the 1980's and thought "Right which box do we need to tick"

That is the same attitude that made me loose all interest in Gi Joe.

Not necessarily - Stormshot shares nothing in common with Jetfire/Skyfire other than being an Autobot that has a jet mode and has white in their colour scheme - and there's certainly no shortage of those in the G1 Autobot ranks - and this simply seems to be a case of them using the name and not making it a new version of the character. This happens a lot - RiD Strongarm not being a new version of Energon Strongarm, for instance. And Jetfire from Animated really not being a new version of G1 Jetfire (or any other Jetfire) either. And don't even try and tell me Armada Wheeljack is just Armada's version of G1 Wheeljack.
Just because they share a name with a character from G1 or another previous series doesn't mean it's meant to be a new iteration of the character. It can be a bit confusing and borderline in certain cases, but same name does not immediately equal same character. In fact in a lot of cases, it's likely just "well we have that name already, why not use that instead of applying for a trademark for a new name?"

It would have hurt my head if Skyblast was called Skyfire as then there would have been Jetfire and Skyfire in the same line.

I would be less irritated by Stormshot being a Skyblast homage than a Skyfire one.

I guess I am disappointed as for a moment I saw in that wave a glimmer of the idea that RID doesn't need to be just the toyline of infinite Bumblebees.

I guess there is something in my personality that just can't understand the mind set change that happened over that period that sometime around the later 1980's and early 1990's the established wisdom suddenly became that we have to be sold the same product over and over in different ways for ever.

Not that I dislike Starscream - but there is a part of me that has to wonder - would it really make the sun go cold if they used someone else as that template like Skyquake or Sunstorm say ?

Does Arcee "have" to be the go too token Female - (thank goodness for Strongarm - even if she is a name slapped sex swap on some level).

I just think this desire to endlessly repeat the past limits story telling and character development.

lets take Bumblebee now - lets fast forward to the 2020's and imagine another cartoon exists that Bumblebee is in but he's now an established leadership role one in no contention - like how Animated allowed Magnus to be in charge.

Also if we must revisit the past at least with the large cast in the past different ideas could be explored by that diverse and huge cast (same was true of Gi Joe to some extent) as you always had an Autobot that could be used to tell any given story.

They did that a lot in Season two of the original cartoon.

I'd like to see a show on Earth perhaps set in a time when the Autobots had been here for some time and in the open (sort of like how Energon open up) and we get a diverse cast of characters that rotate around a changing core - not a set core like in RID.

Perhaps RID's "Miniseries" idea is one that can be expanded on - and so they can hire a voice artist for 6 episodes not a whole run and tell as story that revolves around a particular set of individuals and then another story about others - and so on.

RID's never changing core cast is a bit boring to me it gets the odd addition sure like Drift or Windblade - but it's less often that the existing ones disappear for a while (though I think they do a bit).

RID did dip a toe in the water with this idea with making some of the Minicons central to the story - so that is a good positive example at least.

Saw Stormshot at Target tonight. Would have gotten him, but his silver face paint was smeared up the side of his red visor. Shame, he's the only new RID figure I'm really interested in right now.

No see, what I was trying to say is... Stormshot isn't a homage to Skyfire. In the same way Armada Wheeljack isn't a homage to G1 Wheeljack, and RiD (2001) Grimlock isn't a homage to G1 Grimlock. All three of these are completely original characters and not new iterations of the G1 character they share their names with.

Ah, he was talking about Energon, nvm. Nevertheless, Hasbro reuses names all the time, especially if it's for the sake of keeping them. So expect some more Unicron Trilogy-style reuses for RiD 2015 (even if they end up not clearing legal).

I'm probably hovering around thread derailment here.

I'm wandering off point a bit here though so I'll move this to minds.

But in short i'd really like a Legion or One-step Jazz toy for RID in 2017.

But the name Skyfire was applied to this character in the same way Bonecrusher or Devastator was applied to the 2007 Movie characters. I'm not sure how clearer I can say that he's not meant to be a new iteration of the characters who previously held that name.

... especially when Skyfire was his pre-production name.

Not sure how you got to Jazz but yeah, I'd love a legion of him too - he's a great design honestly. Wish he'd come back

Loopaza Mega Store just keeps delivering, as their Facebook page has shared a batch of images for the upcoming Transformers Robots in Disguise Combiner Force Soundwave figure, in the warrior class. The redesigned Decepticon can be seen in the photos mirrored below - check them out and sound off in the Energon Pub!

Hasbro Transformers RID
Combiner Force Soundwave

Robot in Disguise is enter a new Chapter and Sonundwave is about to show up. This Soundwave design is kind of mix between series TF Prime and Video game War for Cybertron. A TFP head with a WFC body.

This warrior class Soundwave is really good, outstanding from the whole RID toy line. It just give you a feeling that TF Prime series is back!

Transformation is pretty details in his class. The way he flip up is quite new and every parts is lock up nicely and clean. Also thanks to the transformation Soundwave have a decent posing ability.

Overall, RID Soundwave shows that he properly the best figure in the whole series and highly recommend to every TF fans even you not enjoy the RID series.

A few things I had not noticed yet is how the arms and hands are fully visible in truck mode and how they have hinged flaps which stay in robot mode. But aside fom that he looks good.

Something's looked off about this guy in my opinion but I couldn't put my finger on it. I think I've got it now, the chest sticks out a little too far. I don't know if anybody else feels that way. I
Edit: I've just noticed that he's got some light piping. I must be starved from light piping because I actually got excited when I saw it.

Am I crazy or are the windows smaller on the Warrior Class one that they are on the Activator one ?

---

Oh an mild off-topic Rant alert/

"Activator" now there is a term they've used before on multiple lines - just like they over used 'Titan' too.

I dislike that they do that it's just another layer of added confusion for new collectors who start with a current line and then work backwards to the previous ones.

RAR wrote:I'm going to wait and see what happens at Toyfair before getting to worried about the lack of Ratchet and Bisk Warrior Class - fortunately it's likely (possibly even confirmed) that Legion Bisk is to be repacked in a later wave so I won't hopefully miss out on him.

It would be nice if Hasbro put in that little extra effort or made a gift set of something so they can do things like the other blue and sandy deco characters they've missed and maybe if they are really feeling generous make a new chest for Legion Bisk so he can be turned into a little Thermidor.

I'm a little concerned that the line might end before the chance of a Bisk and Ratchet Warrior Repack is even raised.
If I see no listings of future wave packing show them then I will jump on an ebay or Amazon listing or see if any of the online retailers have any left same with scatter spike - even if I would have liked her more with a new head the pair is a pair worth completing.

I really wish Hasbro would show some imagination with their flanker sub-brands though it's so tedious to get (insert sub-title here) Bumblebee or Sideswipe so much. there are some of these gimics that would be nice with a Decepticon.

I would have appreciated it if they'd done what they did with CrazyBolt (still can't find him) and Overload and put random Decepticons in their sublines. Especially that digger one. Groundpounder/Groundshaker ground-whatever he's called would benefit from a bigger toy.

Activators Springload would likely work too.
I'd like more of the RID Decepticons if for no other reason than that they are NEW CHARACTERS !!!

Out of curiosity which Decepticon do you folks think really seem to be a noticeable lack so far ?

God i hope this doesn't set back the release of Warrior Class Thermidor :(
coz i prefer that mold in those colours
