That is not helping either's case. Superion is the only one whose torso looks well proportioned.
But we've all found ways to make Menasor's proportions better, and I'm betting the same can be done for Defensor.
Here's hoping.

I'm not making a 'case' for anything. There's no 'case' to be made. People arguing for or against are wasting their time because this is a done deal. Hasbro made these figures. They did it - it's done. Naysayers and promoters alike are merely engaging in academic quibbling because these figures are going to hit the shelves whether people like it or not. And no amount of forum trolling can stop it.

I'm just saying that I like the look, and I'm planning to pick these figures up, stumpy or not. The people who don't like these figures? Totally free to ignore them, just as I did with the Crapper-Crap Combiner line, and with the current RiD line. No skin off my teeth, or theirs. Freedom of choice, dudes. Anyone refusing to buy them only ensures there will be plenty for those of us who are getting them :)

If any combiner had to be stumpy, Defensor kind of makes sense. He looks like a burly, stocky police enforcer, which kind of goes with his image of defense and protection... That's my rationalization anyway :)

Funny. I just watched The Key to Vector Sigma last night, and I could swear there were five jets, including some guy named Slingshot who was kind of a jerk to Ironhide, and in fact the most prominent member of the team in their introductory episode aside from Silverbolt. And I didn't see any Alpha Bravo anywhere...

So, er, define "always," please. Because the way I understood the word, it was not a subjective word.

Lies. Alpha Bravo has ALWAYS BEEN AN AERIALBOT.

I know it's a Photoshop. I just find some of the venom directed at Alpha Bravo a little ridiculous, and the idea that he has retroactively been made a G1 Aerialbot to destroy the childhood of his naysayers strikes me as funny. ;)

QUIT DESTROYING MY CHILDHOOD MRBLACK!!!

it has nothing to do with destroying anyone's childhood.. it has to do with the fact that it's been thirty years since we've gotten proper combiners. to make them the right way now, but just decide to completely change a member of each team for absolutely no other reason than them being greedy IS a problem.. it's not ruining my childhood, but it's crushing my faith in hasbro which has already been squashed enough as it is.

it's great that they are releasing both slingshot and wildrider.. but it doesn't look like we'll be getting a proper groove. so, that sucks.

it'd be like starting a generations line and not including an optimus prime, but instead, they just out of the blue invent a brand new autobot leader.. so, you'd have all of the other classic autobots being lead by a brand new leader for absolutely no reason. it's just not right and it's easy to see why it would piss some people off.

if they really wanted to add a new member, they should've started with the proper teams first, then introduce the new characters later.

i'm all for new characters, bulkhead, lockdown, the movie decepticons, all really cool. adding a helicopter to a team of combining jets is stupid. adding an SUV to a limb team of sports cars is stupid. now.. had they released the original team first, then in a later wave introduced the new characters in the pack in comics, that would've been pretty cool. but that's not how it went down.

it's a clear money grab. wait until both alpha bravo and offroad had sold a bunch, then reveal slingshot and wildrider online.. that's pretty low.

Hmmm, what should the new member for the AERIALbots transform into? I've got it.......a helicopter!

Just thinking about this: if sunstreaker is going to be a straight repaint of breakdown I won't be getting him. Despite my not having universe sunstreaker. I hate the robot mode for breakdown. It's his knees and the general blocky ness. I'll be skipping that one I think.

This is why I have no problem with Defensor not having close to perfect proportions. He's a brawler, plain and simple. ;)^

As for comparing any combiner to Superion, there is simply no comparisson. We are talking about Superion here, all others are inferior.

Which is probably why I will get only him from CW. Maybe Devastator, if he looks OK in-hand. And possibly Cyclonus with the Stunticon limbs, also an in-hand decision.

I think it works. In my mind, Defensor tanks and draws agro, so he's sturdier than the others. Plus it compliments his heavy duty counterpart, Bruticus.

Best looking combiner so far?

I got Superion who is nice, but Defensor looks awesome.

Menasor is the weakest link IMO and I really can't wait to swap out his torso for Cyclonus/Galvatronus.

Defensor is looking pretty great. I think Rook looks best as a leg though.

Shame he's going to tower over my hopelessly floppy FP Bruticus...

In the case of the Crapper-Crap Combiner line, the issue I had with them was that they didn't even have transformable mini-cons to serve as the 'limbs'. The PCC line just had Deluxe sized core figures, and then vehicle (or monster) 'drones' that pegged into them. The only gimmick the drones had was that when pegged into the core figure, they would automorph into limb mode by flopping open. They weren't any bigger or better than the old G1 combiners, in fact in most cases they were smaller than the G1 counterparts on which the PCC figures were only loosely based.

The CWs are bigger, with a voyager core figure, and deluxe size limb figures. The limbs transform into both robots and vehicles, as well as serving as the gestalt appendages. That's why I fled from the PCC line, and why I embrace the CW line. The CWs just look better, function better... eh, they're just BETTER, IMO.

Saying this as someone who is kind of trying to be a G1 purist with his combiners, and thus never had any plans to buy Alpha Bravo and ordered the Takara Superion...

I dunno, Rook kind of doesn't seem as bad. I suppose it helps that, even if downgraded to chest plate, at least Groove is still a part of the team. So Defensor does still contain all five of his original members. But I won't be upset to have Rook in my collection.

Granted, that all being said, if Takara announces their Defensor tomorrow and it has a Deluxe Groove that looks pretty good, I may have some pre-orders to cancel! But even if that happens, unlike Alpha Bravo, I may still try to snag Rook separately.

Not sure if I should hold my breath, though. Unlike Slingshot and Wildrider, who would Takara make Groove from? Unless there is an as yet unrevealed motorcycle mold (perhaps being developed for Computron), there isn't exactly a ready to go pre-existing mold for Takara to redeco as Groove like they did for the other two Hasbro-replaced Combiner Wars limbs.

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of a 3rd party Groove similar to what Belzeboss was planning to do with Slingshot. Something with similar "Hasthetics". ;)
