I wouldn't see how, though, maybe that's just me. I don't see any hint of Diaclone/Microman anywhere.

Other than colors, Don't think this toy looks anything like G2 Autoroller Optimus Prime.

 G2 Autoroller Optimus Prime. Had a Construction vehcile dump truck. Not a combat jeep looking vehicle.

Yes, but in all honesty, would you rather a lorry, or a military off road vehicle, as the updated version?

I hope both this and the "urban cammo" version of the same mold come out, too, preferably with new names for each (and no "us army" tampographs on them).

I'm going to rename him as a synonym to "convoy":

Possibly "Safeguard", " Cavalcade", "Crocodile", or something else.

What I WOULD like to see printed on him is the term "Military Convoy", or " Rolling Thunder" which would be fitting, right?

The urban cammo version (Hound) could be from this pool:

Perhaps "Scout", " Bird-Dog ", "Hunt-Down", "Tracker", "Badger", "Bombardier",
" Cannoncade", "Track-Down".

I hope these two are generic "grunts" in the Autobot forces. Heck, I'd also love a red version to represent the genetic Autobot Soldier models used in the Fall of Cybertron game.

Anyone else?

Tell me truthfully. Have you read any of the TransTech stories that Fun Pub has produced? Because Fun Pub's TransTech is not a Beast Machines sequel and has nothing to do with the original abandoned Transtech series. All Fun Pub did was take the character designs of the canceled series and recycle/reinvent them for something new entirely.

I still don't forgive you for not putting the toys in chocolate eggs, it would've been better to bust open a giant kinder surprise egg/wonderball for oilmaster instead of the extremely telegraphed "fakeout". [-(

I can't believe it's been this long and we still haven't gotten a Hauler redecoed from RTS Grappel. I mean, Geeeeeeeeeeesh.

I'll also be really disappointed if they don't use the Generations Arcee mold for something.

Maybe they can use it for the Army 3 pack. Color each one differently like they did with the 2013 Welcoming Committee.

They could make the three pack a Charlies Angels type deal.

Hot Rod's Angels.

ORRRRRRR

Make 'em Decepticons. They could use the Animated Drag Strip deco again.

Should such a Hauler redeco be yellow to match his one appearance in the G1 cartoon, or green as the color eHobby released him in, so as to differentiate him from Grapple?

I'm thinking the green color scheme. Those are more or less his official colors, as far as his toys are concerned.

My hope would be Scoop in arctic deco as G2 Sergeant Hound (who was an arctic deco bulldozer) and a military truck/hummer of some kind as the military deco Euro-release Autoroller Ironhide.

That way you get the three military G1 Autorollers in one pack.

Then maybe a Decepticon three-pack at some point with stealth bomber Megatron in G2 deco, an accompanying Starscream in matching deco, and a rally car Soundwave.

Actually I'd really like to see the Combiner Wars molds used in the future as the G2. Maybe CW Prime as the Torso with a G2 Comics deco. G2 emblems, cracked winshield. Characters like Rapido/Drench/etc. as limbs.

I can see Combiner Wars making for some truly oddball sets in the future. Maybe an RiD combiner with Hotspot reworked as RiD Prime. Dragstrip as RiD Mirage. Offroad as RiD Ironhide.

Since the CW figures can be mismatched, new teams of repaints can be formed from the parts.

Notes:
  • The setting year of 2034 places this story in the Japanese G1 cartoon timeline one year before Operation Combination and United EX.
  • Iron Town originally appeared as the alien Western setting seen in the first episode of Victory.
  • Magnificus's partner, Ga'mede, is not an Earth human, but an alien. His tininess is his natural size. See here for more.
  • Ga'mede's crack about "Hawk" not looking like a Pretender is a reference to Metalhawk, who went by the name of "Hawk" in his human guise in the Masterforce series.
  • "Hawk" is really the G2 Decepticon Skyscorcher Eagle Eye using his European name as an alias. BUT, while the last panel has him drawn like his G2 toy, the rest of the issue has him drawn with the head of the Micromaster G1 Autobot Eagle Eye of the Air Patrol. So in this story, the Autobot Micromaster defected to the Decepticons, explaining his conspicuous absence from the United EX fiction, in which the other three Air Patrol members (Tread Bolt, Blaze Master, and Sky High) all appear (as Jetmaster, Choppermaster, and Airmaster, respectively).
  • Last but not least, the person that Magnificus believes to be Skyquake isn't Skyquake at all, but is instead the Decepticon High Regent Scrash, who was the nebulous main antagonist of the Operation Combination (and United EX) fiction.

I like that first idea - and that decent repaint of Roadbusster might just be what you're after.

As for the Decepticons, we're almost two thirds of the way there anyway - Reprolabels have a sweet G2 label set for Megatron, and the TFSS this year has a Classics Starscream with a G2 deco coming. We'd just need to slap a Soundwave head onto a repaint of Gen. Skids, Universe Smokescreen or RTS Jazz for the last part of that entourage.

Let me take the opportunity to count all Yoyagers and their equivalents, and larger per year, including souvenirs:

2005
Deathsaurus

2006
Axalon Optimus Primal

Darksyde Megatron

2007
Dreadwind

Alpha Trion

2008
Optimus Prime
Starscream

Megatron

2009
Landshark
Flak

Banzai-tron
Razorclaw

2010
Spark
Clench

Double Punch

2011
The Motormaster

Toxitron
Galvatron (SG)

2012
Gigatron

Octopunch (SG)

2013
Obsidian
Megaplex

Sandstorm

2014
Pirate Scorponok
Knight Ginrai

Knight Alpha Trizer

2015
Battletrap
Megatron

???

The average number seems to be 2 to 3 per year, with 4 being the most. With the revelation of "General Optimus Prime" the chances of a Flywheels are slim, but not 0. Keep your fingers crossed.

Though, in all honesty, guys, do you really REALLY want Fun Pub to make Flywheels out of Blitzwing? You guys do all remember how much that mold is loathed and despised for its bad shoulders that were never fixed in any of the four releases it's had, right? Do you all really want the dissatisfaction of Fun Pub making Flywheels and then being upset over the flawed shoulders for a fifth time, especially when this Flywheels would arguably be the most expensive version of the mold yet? Are you guys really willing to shell out all that much money for yet another release of the bad-shouldered Blitzwing mold? Sure, you could try modding it to fix the shoulders, but how many of you would be willing to take the risk of modding an uber expensive BotCon figure? Wouldn't it be more merciful of Fun Pub to spare us from yet another release of the very mold that has already given so many people plenty of disappointment? You'd save a lot of money in the process.

Sheesh, yes. I still want that toy badly.

The shoulder issue is no surprise to us anymore. The awesomeness of having the PAIR of the two Duocons and a really nice head sculpt and paint scheme on that toy would be a joy. At the root of it... those two together are WAY cooler than just one of the two. That's synergy, man. The sum is greater than the total of the two parts.

And seriously, the shoulders are no deal breaker. It moves a little when posing the arms. That's not a big deal next to not being able to transform a toy, etc.

Will be crossing my fingers.

Yeah, I would want the set, and Blitzwing's mold is really the only way I can see getting him. Everyone called it when Blitzwing and Springer came out. They do compliment each other well.

And these are more collector oriented anyway so I don't think there's too much of an issue with the shoulders. They're more for display rather than playing with.

I remember getting Universe Darkwing (Darkwind), and suddenly I had to have The Botcon Dreadwind to complete the duo. There something satisfying about having all the members of a set.

Mind you... aside from all this chatter about the duocons, I STILL can't help thinking how awesome (and off base) an Onyx Primal from the Sandstorm would be... just for the tumbler mode.

BUT I think the Jiaxus mold is probably a better choice. I just need to get some black paint and make that. Heh.

Okay. Back on track. Talk about Botcon, people.

I think part of the problem with the shoulders was the way Blitzwing et. al. were packaged. If no rubber bands are being used to keep the shoulders together in the packaging, then the deformation might not take place, making the shoulders the best ever for the mold.

Do BotCon and Club figures ever come that well secured in their packaging? I seem to remember foam packaging, but I have yet to open my only club figure (Thrustinator) to see how any of them come.

When I mentioned Starscream, I was picturing an ATB Starscream homage. Maybe Energon Starscream released in colors matching Stealth Bomber Megatron at retail with the G2 deco.

Or Energon Starscream in a two-pack with Stealth Megatron, both re-decoed as the G2 release.

I know the TFSS is doing camo Starscream. What appeals to me about General Prime, Arctic Hound, Autoroller Iron Hide, etc. is that by virtue of being near-unreleased or never released final G2 molds, they represent the "final form" of the original G1 continuity.

I always felt like if you wanted to do something like Ninja Turtles Forever or the old JLA/JSA team-ups, in some ways the true representation of O.G. G1 would be a world where everyone is in very late G2 forms. I realize Fun Pub in particular has taken stabs at G2 "continuity" but in my head-canon, the cartoon continuity has a branch that ends up with all of the old Autobots as military vehicles and most of the Decepticons as jets. Galvatron tried to reformat himself into a tank to break his connection to Unicron but the purple patches are bits of his Galvatron infection. When he became "Hero Megatron", the Galvatron infection was turning him purple again.

I imagine the Combaticons building their maker Starscream a new body (hence the camo deco) and at some point Starscream and Megatron getting fused together in the Stealth Bomber mash-up form.

While I'm babbling about G2 though, one thing I'd really like to try as a custom would be a G2 Comic Hot Rod. By and large, the U.S. comic just had him more purple with the G2 logo but the UK Comics colored him a bit more detailed with an orange collar and hands. Perfect obscure TFSS or con figure as a companion to recent releases and playing off pent up demand for more Rodimus figures I've seen lately.

The Ironhide you mention was a Power Master, not an Autoroller. He features a pull back motor not unlike the Throttlebots, except it can be locked with the weapons when wound up. Other Power Masters were Meanstreak (dragster), Staxx (long-nose truck) and Bulletbike (motorcycle with side car)

The "final forms" idea is appealing though, and if we're to include Machine Wars, some characters already have them in some shape or form. :)

Sorry. I meant Power Master (also called Powered Master) Ironhide. UK exclusive. From the end of G2. A natural companion to General Optimus Prime in the sense that he's a G2 version of an 84/85 Autobot with a military theme.

There's a general sense at the tail end of G2 that everyone (after getting reformatted as cars for the Go-Bots subline) suddenly got reformatted as military vehicles that looked straight out of G.I.Joe.

General Prime and Sergeant Hound to my knowledge never got released. I saw ATB Megatron and Starscream once at a Kaybee but I gather their national release was canceled. Power Master Iron Hide was UK only.

That may have also been where the Jungle Camo Grimlock and desert camo seeker repaint were being floated as ideas. There's enough "Limited Release/Unreleased" very late era G2 stuff to fill a whole boxed set with iconic characters for a year.

The black and purple one? Then you must be from Ohio, as that's where their (test-market) release was.

I have noticed that just now, as some Machine Wars releases have that army design going for them. Really odd.
